Due to my mother depending on Disability from Social Security, Sunrise Village was the low-income Assisted Care Facility I chose for her after looking at many others in Tampa Bay. The head Administrator, Sherry, is an absolute dear when it comes to caring about her residents. My mother was extremely emotional on moving day and Sherry gave her the biggest hug and told her "you'll make friends here, I promise." Since Sunrise Village is a low-income facility, they do not have as many resources or employees-per-resident as other facilities may have. I know the employees here did the best they can with the little resources they had. The worst thing that happened during my mom's stay was budget cuts to the free adult diapers they would provide for residents, and I had to end up supplying them myself out-of-pocket which was a bit of a financial strain on myself as an entry-level Millennial in the beginnings of my career. She was also not a fan of the food. The best thing I loved about Sunrise Village was the cleanliness - I NEVER saw anything out of place or messy for long. On my mother's last day on this Earth, I was made aware that she was transported to the hospital in a phone call immediately from the staff, and I was very appreciate for that. The staff was also very nice and friendly to my mother, and helped me clean out her room and provided many hugs for me when she passed. I would say Sunrise Village is probably the best & cleanest choice you'll get in low-income ALF care in Tampa.

Great apartments, excellent food (one meal a day is included in independent living monthly service fee), I have made many good friends, I no longer drive and love the activities on and off campus plus transportation to my medical appointments.

The ambulance people had to wait while they actually made the bed she was admitted to. TWO HOURS later, sick as a dog...not a SINGLE Nurse, CNA or staff member had been to see her. TWO HOURS she sat sick, and alone. We had to physically go confront them at 9:00PM to get staff to her. They took Her a sandwich. They did not change her out of her hospital gown- they did no medical care and did not even administer ANY of her meds that night nor the next morning.. NUMEROUS calls by numerous concerned family we're unanswered, and not one single call back. By the next morning my elderly mother was begging us to get her out of there and we called to let them know we were coming to remove her to please make the necessary arrangements. Once again FOUR hours worth of phone calls were unanswered and not a single call back. We literally had to show up at the place and threaten to call the sheriff. Unfortunately once we were able to get her out of the place we had to contact them to get an order for home health care which is where we brought her and the administrator of the facility told our Home Care Case Manager they C OULD write the order but THEY would NOT. Even after denying her basic medical/human care they refused to assist my mother in getting HOME HEALTH CARE! They said they COULD but they WOULDN'T.
