If the beach won't allow young kids to have air flotation devices then why are lifeguards allowed to throw baseballs in the water?

Franklin Falls Flow is an Impoundment on the Saranac River thanks to Paul Smith's Electric Light and Power Company dam. Much of the lake is under 10 feet deep, so boaters need to be cautious. The lake has a nice view of Whiteface Mountain. There is a non-paved boat launch nearby but it is not the usual sort of lake. As it is manmade, you can expect more than the usual rocks and stumps. There was a nice grassy lawn, right on the water. The only way into and out of the water was a large floating dock. The limited shoreline area was pretty rocky. My grandson is now t a strong enough (or brave enough) swimmer to jump into strange water that was over his head. Wing a woman of a certain age, I have a very bad knee that prohibited me from jumping in, since I feared not being able to climb out. The only way was a 90 degree metal ladder attached to the side of the dock, which had very slippery steps due to the green stuff growing on them. So, we were disappointed not to get our swim. But the lawns was beautiful, as was the scenery. It looked like a fun place for decent swimmers in good physical condition!

The Silver Bog Preserve trail is a sweet walk!…read more The Nature Conservancy maintains this preserve for educational and scientific purposes and we benefit cause it's a great way to spend some time in a neat environment.The trail starts out in sun-dappled woods which quickly leads to a boardwalk that winds its way though the bog. A great stroll through some interesting plants. At the end of the end of the boardwalk you can turn around OR you can venture into the woods for a gentle climb to the 200' bluffs overlooking Silver Lake. With roots and some rocks, it's not level, but not difficult. Beautiful open rock area at the top! So, bring a snack and enjoy! Special Note: This hike is a little over 2 miles RT.
