SquareCare Oakland - Mitzy Molina, Bilingual Preschool Program Teacher

The whole space is lovely, and is somehow exciting and calming at the same time - very much in keeping with Mitzy's own way of being. All of the maestras are warm, caring, and communicative, and have supported my child through many things, including potty training and the death of a pet. They are also great at supporting social and emotional learning. The kids have lots of time for unstructured play but also plenty to do each day - all kinds of activities including arts and crafts, sensory play, gardening, special birthday celebrations and holiday-related activities. At the end of the day, the kids are thrilled to see their parents, but none of them seem to want to go home, and I always want to linger in the backyard for a while, too. Highly recommend this program.

Until then, he had only ever been cared for by his dad, grandmother, and me - no babysitters or nannies - so being away from us was a big adjustment. From the very beginning, the team at SquareCare was incredibly understanding and supportive. Mitzy created a thoughtful transition plan that truly set my son up for success. At first, I was able to stay with him at school so he could get comfortable with the new environment and teachers. Then, we gradually increased the time he spent there alone. Finally, once we all felt confident that he was happy and secure, he began napping at school as well. Now, my son loves school and attends full days three times a week. Mitzy, Yessi, and Tiara are so patient and genuinely invested in his success. We're all so proud of his progress and growth. I highly recommend this program! The teachers are not only caring and wonderful with the children, but the environment is exceptionally clean and inviting. Plus, there's a bunny and chickens--such a fun and unique touch that the kids absolutely love!

Was very pleased with the overall experience here for 2 years, and my student loves the teachers, their school friends, and the facility. Without going into a crazy long monologue, here are a few things that made this daycare/preschool great from my perspective. - My soon to be TK student already has 95%+ of his Kindergarten academic preparedness criteria met. They love telling me about the basic addition they are learning, and they love showing me their schoolwork papers when they get home. - The curriculum includes age appropriate social centered curriculum like noticing others' emotions and changing ones own behavior based on it (most noticeable when they ask their friends or visitors at our house if something is wrong, or what made them happy today). - Enrichment curriculum includes germinating plants, learning animals (including on-site animals), children's yoga, numerous art project styles etc. - Super cute performances!!! The Mother's Day performance was spectacular with actual singing and age appropriate choreography - The local parent community is reasonably active with play dates, and school centric activities. Was very easy to find parents within a short drive of the school for playdates and birthday parties etc. Easy to find parents on private Facebook community, and easy to share and access pictures from school - Staff has been great during our attendance here. Very responsive and my student loves them. Highly recommend checking this school out.

We feel confident that our child is ready for TK and beyond, both from a social and academic perspective. Daisy isn't for everyone, and that's ok. There are definitely some quirks in communication, information, and structure. You won't get a student list, parent contact info, or a daily schedule, but you will have a safe and loving environment where your child is cared for and nurtured. One of the things I loved best about Daisy is that every adult takes time to genuinely interact with every child, and make them feel heard and valued. All the teachers (even the ones for other classrooms) knew our child and interacted with him in a positive and respectful way. Another thing I loved about Daisy is that the kids get A LOT of outdoors time which worked great for our family. We know he had a good day when we pick him up and his clothes were covered in dirt and his shoes were filled with woodchips. We know this isn't for every family, but our active kiddo thrived because of it. There are also goats, chickens, birds, and a turtle. Most importantly, our child loved going to Daisy. All the days where he would run to join his friends in the big yard at drop off, and blurt out all the stories of how much fun he had throughout the day at pickup made us confident that we made the right choice for him. Other pros: * They do music on Mondays and yoga on Tuesdays. * There's plenty of parking for easy drop-off and pick-off. * They focus a lot on social skills, and our child has made a lot of friends and frequently talks about them. * Though academics aren't their stated focus, our 4-year old can count to 20+, recognize numbers and letters, and identify words that rhyme. At 3, our kiddo knew all sorts of shapes, colors, etc. * They take hygiene seriously and the kids seemed pretty healthy (there wasn't ever a widespread outbreak of lice, COVID, etc. and our child I think only stayed home once or twice for being sick over the 2-year period. I think the outdoor time helped keep germs from spreading as well.) * They foster independence and teach kids to track their belongings. I remember thinking it was ridiculous that my 2-year old was supposed to track his own water bottle, but he learned to do it and at 3 he learned to navigate his lunchbox on his own too. Other helpful details: * The youngest age they take is 18 months. There's a separate smaller yard area for younger children. * There are many different family structures at Daisy. * They are flexible with start and end dates. * They generally follow OUSD's school calendar for days off with the exception of summer break (there's thankfully no summer break at Daisy). * They don't provide lunch, but they do sometimes provide snacks and your child certainly won't be hungry if they didn't have a great breakfast or won't eat what you packed them for lunch. * Onboarding was a little rough on our schedules as parents (our child started with shorter days for a few weeks so that he could ease into the new routine and space), but I think it set us up for success. * They occasionally post pictures to Facebook.

Sandra the owner is very attentive and great with communication. She follows through on all requests. He told me he and his friends were locked inside a closet room as punishment. He was screaming asked for help and the teacher would not open. One time he was trying to grab and open the door and end up cutting his finger (I actually do remember one day the teacher told me he was "playing" and cut his finger, now I finally knew exactly what happened!!! My son also told me his friend who can talk well did tell his mom they were locked up but his mom didn't believe such horrible thing could happen. Do not send your child to this place and do not mis-guided by Sandra's sweat promise. Do believe what your kids said if they had told you things happened to them. Bottom line, this is a family business and a lot of State guideline are not closely followed (Sandra back then used room up-stair for activities, which I was concerned for safety). It is a solution if you are looking for low cost and easy to enroll daycare, but I would not keep the child there for long term, especially when the child is young and can not report incident to you.

The teachers truly care about the children, and our youngest actually ASKS to go to school now to be with her friends -- which says it all. There's always something fun happening, from themed events to special sensory activities that keep the kids excited to learn and play. We've made great friends through the community and are genuinely sad that our time here is coming to an end. If I HAD to mention one area for improvement, it would be around the daily communication and admin updates -- but honestly, that seems to be a common theme for most daycares on the island. Overall, we're so grateful for the care, kindness, and joy this daycare has brought into our children's early years and especially during COVID. Highly recommend!

5 Stars - Truly Grateful for Little Seed Children Center…read more My daughter started at Little Seed Children Center about 6 months ago and I couldn't be more pleased with how much she's been learning and growing. Of course, things come up occasionally, but honestly, what household or community runs perfectly at all times? What I deeply appreciate about LSCC is that everything they do is grounded in strong values: honor, respect, and genuine care. Just as important, they embrace humanity. When things aren't perfect, I see it as an opportunity for learning for both myself and the staff, and that is something rare and valuable. The best part of LSCC is that they truly work with you as a team. Not necessarily like "family" in the cliché sense, but in a very real and supportive way. I had a couple of challenging moments at drop-off, and Ms. Sarah stepped in with incredible support. She has this remarkable ability to balance structure with compassion, knowing exactly when to hold firm on guidelines and when to extend kindness to parents navigating tough days. I am sincerely grateful to all the staff, to Ms. Sarah in particular, and honestly to the universe for leading me here. I see children the same age as my daughter who haven't reached the developmental milestones she has consistently surpassed with the help of LSCC. That speaks volumes about the quality of their approach. Nothing in life is ever perfect. Kids get sick, challenges happen, but LSCC handles it all with a grounded, reality-based approach to caregiving. What matters is the net positive impact, and for my daughter it has been tremendous. They have created an environment where she is thriving, and for that I will always be thankful. Especially for Ms. Sarah!

Some of the highlights: - Three healthy/home cooked meals (rice + protein + veggies + fruits + milk) are provided three times a day (9am, 11am, 4pm). This was a big game changer for me. I had to pack lunch for her every day for her previous daycare, and that was such a big burden for a working mom. I quickly ran out of ideas what to pack, and would be disappointed on the days she had not eaten well. My daughter really learned how to enjoy veggies such as cauliflowers, cherry tomatoes, and spinach. - Jian is very communicative and sends cute photo/video updates daily. - She has a flourishing backyard with fruits and veggies where kids learn about nature and also have fun. My daughter picked her own cherry tomatoes, washed them, and ate them. Since then, she became a big fan of tomatoes! - Jian is very patient and gentle. Really, you can tell that even after so many years of child care experience, she still cares and pays attention to the little things. One morning, my daughter brought some grapes on the way to the daycare. When Jian saw that the grapes were not chopped up, she chopped them into four slices. I thought it was very thoughtful of her. - Jian is currently potty training my daughter and it has been so great! Seems like my daughter is enjoying the potty training experience, and continues to demonstrate improvement at home too. - NO TV! Jian has lots of great educational materials. We've sent our older son to a montessori school before, and was happy to see that Jian uses montessori-inspired toys. My daughter learned how to clean up after each play and became pretty independent in her play time even at home. - Jian's family helps out, so the kids get to interact with Jian's son (they call him "gou gou" which means "big brother" in Cantonese), and Jian's husband. They speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese.

She provides healthy breakfast, lunch, and snack. It is so nice to not have to pack food and to know I can slack on nutrition a bit at home since they get such good food there. Lunch is always rice + protein + veggie + fruit and she switches up what she serves so they get exposed to a wide variety of veggies. The most amazing part is my kids, who are picky eaters at home, love her food! 2) She teaches them so much about hygiene and life skills. My kids have learned how to wash their hands well, wipe their noses, cover their months when they cough, keep their hands out of their mouths, and how to use utensils (really well!). When my kid was 1.5 I coughed at home without covering my mouth well and he said to me "like this!" and motioned how to cover his mouth with his elbow. :) She also is great at supporting potty training. She got my younger kid excited about using the potty and gave him lots of practice. 3) She is super experienced. She is always calm, clear, and kind. The kids listen to her, and they also feel comfortable. Her house isn't large but she uses the space so well, rotating toys and activities and having different play spaces. 4) She is a good communicator. She sends home details everyday about their nap, meals, and pees/poops. She also texts photos and videos of the kids which I adore. 5) I trust her completely. It was hard for me to go back to work when my youngest was only 3-months. I only felt I could do it because I knew he would be in such good hands with Jian.

What truly sets this daycare apart is how thoughtfully the program is designed around child development.
