Love it or hate it. Aufsturz has been around for a long time and is still one of the better dive bars in Berlin - great for groups, cheap beer, and ugly pub food. What more can you ask of a dive bar. Their nachos were rated "worst nachos in the world" by TripAdvisor. So we gave it a try the other day and I totally confirm that statement. The "guacamole" as a side was a joke - sour and way too creamy. How can you mess up Nachos... ask the kitchen at Aufsturz. Don't go for the food. Instead, their beer selection is more than decent. 20+ German beers from "hell" to "dunkel", Pilsner, Weizen, Kristall... you got it. Fair price with 2-4 Euro per glass. The city train stop is right in front of the door and other Mitte bars are nearby. read more

Tons of beer-- Boston folk, think Bukowski or the Publick House (maybe not so much Sunset). Imports range from the czech Krusovice (bottles at Bukowski this week run $7.00, and to go from the Wine and Cheese Cask, are about $4) to Sam Adams, to some seriously alcoholic belgian syrupy brews. Yum! I wasn't nearly the beer connoisseur then that I am now, and I enjoyed a few brews here. Located right near the Oranienburger stop in Mitte, it's a good spot to meet friends with differing tastes. This place is one of many hole in the walls in Oranienburger Str. but what sticks out for me is the selection that they have and location. Right by my Hostel it was my kind of place to kick back and sample beers from just about everywhere (Ghana, Finland, Germany of course) all of which are delicious. We loved it! Beer was delicious and atmosphere lively in a fun area. Awesome beer selection. Our server Donna was the best so far in Berlin, very cool and helpful. We ordered the Veggie BBQ and the Sampler appetizer for 2. It was so much good food it wound up being our dinner for 4! We stayed at the Arcotel just down the block, and walked by Aufsturz every day. Being big craft beer fans, we had to stop. Most of Berlin doesn't have a big variety of different beer around the world, but Aufsturz is the exception! Awesome list - page upon page! Since we had tried so many back in the States we had a good idea of what we were looking at, even though it was in German. Good variety of wines and beer mixed drinks as well. Based on other reviewers, we tried the Aventinus and the Samichlaus. Very strong and potent beer, and the high ABV definitely sneaks up on you! This place was recommended to me by the real beer connoisseurs. For the beer geek, it is definitely worth a visit. In my experience it has the best selection of bottled beers in Berlin. This is a mixed bag of genuinely thrilling beers from Belgium (try the St. Bernardus Triple, or La Trappe Dubbel) along with some rare German gems (how many pubs serve three smokey Rauchbeers). The food is fine - generally standard German fare - but nothing interesting. Make no mistake, this pub is for the beer only. We saw quite a few locals when we ate here so I'm assuming the experience was fairly authentic. I was not a fan of their schnitzel but was definitely a fan of their massive beer selection. The waitress was very patient in recommending beers and food. I love how the beer is served in giant glasses, so big that I could only finish one before I became too bloated to move. read more

You can find there lots of different local beers beside famous beers. I can recommend Flensburger Pilsener. On weekend evenings, it is hard to find a place better not going too late. The funny thing in this place is, there is no fried potatoes although they serve fried foods like chicken nuggets etc. read more

Really a broad selection of beers. But always packed and therefor seasoned with obnoxious tourists and office people from the surrounding places. It's pretty loud too. If you are looking for the real Berlin, go elsewhere. read more

Super disappointing. A large group of friends spontaneously decided to visit the bar after class (22 people). The bar was literally empty, enough empty seats for 100 people easily... You would think that they would be happy to have customers, but we were treated with discourtesy that was almost unbelievable and bullied by the staff who obviously found our presence there too much effort for them and our custom unwanted, until we literally WERE BULLIED OUT OF THE BAR and told to leave. We could not believe how rude the staff were to our group. Popped down the road to a different bar, and the staff there were more than happy to have us spontaneously pop in. NEVER AGAIN. read more

A German pub with plenty of beers from around the world. We came here after the marathon (partly because of the beer and mostly as it was next to the hostel and our legs weren't quite working right). They were a bit funny about pushing tables together so we opted to sit outside instead. The beers are plentiful and we imbibed heartily! Slight confusion on ordering as a couple of our group didn't understand that being in Europe, the standard English terms like 'Pint' and 'Half' didn't quite translate (requested 'halves' were delivered as half litre, not a bad thing but when you wanted to try different beers, it became difficult to drink that much! Next year, we're planning on heading to the marathon party, but for this year (my first marathon) it was good to relax and chill for just a bit. read more

Quite possibly the worst bar I have ever been to.... here goes .. the hostel we were staying at recommended this bar, we walked in, the lady cleaning a glass didn't even look up to say hello .. we walked out and went to a restaurant, wanting to give the benefit of the doubt, we went back afterwards and stood at the bar, the same lady replied "pick a table and sit down" ..... so we did ... afterwards we asked for our drinks and then they brought disgusting cooking wine, flat gin bad service .. to be fair the guy that served us was apologetic and clearly ashamed of the way we had been treated... one of my friends stood up and asked for the bill to which the lady retorted "don't interrupt people" as she was talking to her friend .. needless to say - we complained and left ! Another one of my locals - was here last weekend with a few friends. Lots of different beers here and was extremely busy (and loud) but we managed to find a place to sit. Overall, a great environment if you are with a few people (definately not a place for a quiet drink). read more

If I could, I'd give it a 4.5. The only real down side is that they often lack manpower so you're likely to end up hunting for a waiter. Everything else is great for the price, the beer selection is outstanding and really, I hope I'll be able to correct this to a 5 star rating soon. read more

We were so pleased to find a bar that offered such a variety of craft beers! The atmosphere is fun but laid back. Very large patio which is good for mingling with fellow patrons. I wish I could give a -5 rating. We had made a reservation at this place two weeks in advance and had told them that we are a group of 60 to 70 people. We went there and after one drink, the owner/Manager started complaining that we were "too loud". Believe me, we weren't loud, it was just that we were a lot of people in the bar. I guess we were around 70. The owner/ manager was very very rude / cruel and asked us to "leave the place" because 3 customers sitting on the other side of the bar had "problems". How ridiculous is that. I saw my friends just finishing the beer in haste as if they were drinking a bottle of water because we absolutely did felt unwanted there. We were not a bunch of teenagers who were doing any sort of hooliganism, we were talking amongst ourselves. Being thrown out of bar was absolute rubbish. This was cruel, racist and unasked for. I would not recommend this place to anyone ever. There are far better bars in Berlin. read more
