This time I was lucky enough to receive an upgrade, and once again the experience was fantastic. The entire staff is professional and truly goes above and beyond to help. A special thank you to Thomas at the reception desk for his kindness and outstanding service. The hotel is clean, classy, full of historical character, and perfectly located in the center of Lille. It's hard to imagine a better place to stay in the city. Already looking forward to my next visit!

Very Nice hotel. Rooms are very different and ecclectic. I had 2 rooms booked for my family. One…read morewas average with wooden beams old styled chairs and a nice king bed. Bathroom was nice and room had a fridge. Room also was very hot. Other room was in the old hospice part and was a fantastic suite. That room had a massive bathroom, scale, fireplace, king bed, Old style chairs and a fancy cappucino coffee make and a ton of lotions, shampoos, razor and more. The other room had a basic coffee pot and a lower level of shampoos and lotions. Hotel has a nice bar with 10 euro wine and 20 euro mixed drinks. Breakfast area had a continental for about 12 euro and full for about 23. I recommend full with cheese, salmon, eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, beans, waffles, pancakes and lots of bread, cakes, muffins and selfserve fresh squeezed orange juice. You also get fruit and champagne included. 5 star breakfast. You must visit the chapel and library and museum of old hospice and banquet rooms. Stained glass windows and plenty of artwork. Has a spa and pool but didnt use. Convenient location.

The building itself is superb, housed in an old convent on a quiet and attractive quayside not far from the old town. The star attraction is the stunning glass-roofed hotel bar and resturant in the central cloister. Drinks and food prices are above average for Lille but not excessively so. The hotel rooms are large, comfortable and well appointed by 4-star standards, with marble bathrooms, tea and coffee-making facilities and a large flat-screen TV. Perhaps one of the reasons for the mixed reviews is that the Alliance has a prodominantly business clientele and is quite quiet at weekends. Nevertheless, I have no problem recomending it for a tourist stay in the city. The main town square is a 10-minute walk.

The Mercure Lille is a great place to make your base for exploring Lille and the surrounding northern France towns. It is incredibly convenient to rail stations and an easy walking location for all kinds of exploring in and around Lille. The staff are also extremely helpful and kind. I had a computer stolen out of my bag on the train from Brussels and the stay helped me to walk through the process of filing a police report. Definitely worth a stay if you're a business traveler - as the lobby is a hub for virtual nomads and meetings.
