We loved the beach at the National Lakeshore; clean sand and the beautiful, Caribbean-like waters you expect from Lake Superior. Water is cold, but was so refreshing after a day of hiking and sun! Miner's Castle is a one and done spot for us, but we will definitely be back to the beach at the National Lakeshore!

You can view Miners Castle from an upper viewing deck and a lower one. The upper deck is only 250 feet away from the parking lot, the lower deck is about 1000 feet further and all downhill, meaning a pretty extensive uphill trek on your way back up that definitely gets the heart pumping. Both are highly worth it since the lower deck gets you literally a few feet away (you could say...a *stone's* throw away...heh) from the Miners Castle rock formation, which is very cool, but the best view - the classic view - is from the upper deck. Loved it! Very cool-looking bathroom set of buildings as well in the parking lot, alas they were closed so I wasn't able to see how they were inside haha.

I heard allot of the beaches here people have been getting sick with ecoli bacteria. Whats sad is the place looks nice but apparently there is no enforcement by the local sheriff or state police. Lots of litter and garbage all over. The local park service or law enforcement needs to do something before this place is condemned.

Visitors walk a short gravel trail before descending the 168 steps to the very bottom of the waterfall. There are a few viewing platforms if you don't want to go down that far (or need a break to catch your breath on the way up). The waterfall is magnificent, especially after it's been raining and it's at full flow. Great spot for photos.

Reservations can be made at recreation.gov six months in advance. Very poor if any cell service. The west "generator free" loop was mostly all tent campers and apart from wailing children, very quiet. Pit toilets, running (cold) water, and garbage bins (ignore what recreation.gov tells you). Short walk to the beach from every site; many sites are right above the beach.

The room had a microwave and fridge as well as a grill outside for those that prefer to skip fast food and want home cooked meals! The best part was the location! Sitting here writing this review l, I'm sitting outside looking at Lake Michigan which is about 200ft away! Having beach access sold me and I can't wait to come back!
