I have been frequenting the Bistrot for over 6 years now, because it's just a stone's throw away from our family flat that we stay at every time I'm in Paris. Upon entering, it's a bar where locals come to drink and watch matches on the television. Towards the back is the restaurant, which evokes a very relaxing and homely atmosphere. The lighting is dimly lit, and various shades of red pervading the room. The bar and restaurant is frequented by the locals, and it's refreshing to not be surrounded by tourists. They offer an impressive menu full of hearty selections. It was here that I had merguez for the first time. For those not familiar, it's an amazing red, spicy sausage from North Africa. I encouraged Lumberjack to try it, because it's one of my favourites every time to come to Paris. The service is always friendly and welcoming. Between the two of us we shared lamb, merguez, couscous, and a variety of roasted vegetables. It's exactly what we needed after a full day of travelling. The meal was fresh, tasty, filling, and moderately priced. Overall, it's a good relaxing and tasty experience if you're in the neighbourhood.

Harissa was perfect. I'm sorry to say I thought the chicken tasted pre-cooked, leftover--not fresh. The lamb brochette was the best meat we tried. If I went again--which I won't--I would get that. Simple, warm cuisine that fills you up without being heavy. Magdi, the owner, and his wife, Fatima, the chef, are incredibly lovely people. He was very patient with my rusty French and he told me all about Moroccan cuisine, life in Paris, his home (Egypt) and what it's like in Morocco. The restaurant itself is small and cozy. Regardless of where I stay in Paris, I will be coming back there to eat! The first visit, I had couscous with merguez, a slightly spicy sausage. The merguez had a wonderful flavor and went so well with the vegetables (carrots, turnips and zucchini), the fluffy couscous, and the broth/sauce that the vegetables were cooked in. I think this was my favorite dish. The second time I visited I had a tajine with kefta meatballs. These meatballs were incredible. Soft and moist but full of flavor.
