Cool craft beer bar in Geneva. Great local selection, prices comparable to home. Short walk from tram or main train station

My favorite bottle shop in Geneva. With a central location, right off the main entrance of Gare…read moreCornavin on the second floor, this is an easy stop-in for beer and wine, and their selection is out of this world! I'm shocked to find a great selection from my hometown (San Diego), and some of my other favorite beers, including BrewDog and Flying Dog beers. The location also means that it's easy for me to pick up celebratory Prosecco or a friend's favorite beer when I greet them at the airport. They also stock a lot of local brews, including ciders, and everything is labeled clearly with the name (in French) and flags of each country below the bottles, well-informing your selection, even if you have a hard time making up your mind with so many bottles to choose from! Thankfully, the staff here are very friendly and helpful, and if you drop in often (or have a lot of visitors, as I do) you can get a frequent buyer card, with a stamp for every 10chf spent. Once the card is full your next beer is on them! They even take used bottles of local beers back and return you the recycling fee upon their return, giving you another reason to keep coming back. Like I need another reason to, anyways- from what I've seen around Geneva, their prices really can't be beat!

Very good selection of beer, somewhat limited in wine and what looked like a good selection of…read moreliquor. I read that Geneva is the 2nd most expensive city in Switzerland; if so than DotW fits right in. We drove up to Le Chamonix / Argentiere ( a top ski French ski resort) and found plenty of the same regional beers we found at DotW, only at a 1/2 to 1/3 of the price at a the local super market. We will "dollar cost average" and get over it. But unless you are stuck in Geneva or desperately need an IPA, don't try to load up there for drinks down the road unless you have $$ to spend

I imagine people come to Black Tap for other reasons than the shakes and burgers. I just don't know…read morewhat those reasons are. My wife decided to eat backwards with a blueberry shake first. This flavor is apparently popular and new so I was wary. The Graham cracker crumbs mixed throughout gave body to what was already a thick concoction. Meanwhile I was focused on the Old Fashioned, a tasty concoction of sautéed mushrooms, carnal iced onions, and a spicy creamy sauce. Any other day I would have been all over the truffle burger, but it might have to get in line with all the other tempting choices: Carolina (pork), Texan (beef and cheddar), All-American (w/ fromage US), am I really in Switzerland? All y'all can try the veggie or plant varieties. I'll stick to the plant-based sides (frites). I guess technically this place is "touristy" but they pull it off Genève-style with friendly service and helpful wait staff. A local I met up with the next day tried to take me there again, so it must be doing lots well. Give it a try if you're near the Rive rotund.

Okay, the beers here were pretty good, but the service was absolutely shocking, or at least one of…read morethe waiters, but then again a single waiter can probably ruin an entire experience at a place. Well, maybe it was because I was just ordering a beer, or the waiter was having a bad day, but making snide comments in French as I was walking past certainly doesn't help. Sure, my French might suck, but you can recognise a snide comment in any language. This is definitely one of those places that should be avoided at all costs.
