Rouen does have a bit of an international crowd, and our server was bilingual in English. For words that were not easily translated, the whole restaurant rallied to make sure we understood what food we would be ordering. The atmosphere is decidedly comfortable and easygoing. I ordered a croque Normandie, a twist on the traditional croque monsieur. Normandy is known for a rich cream sauce which was ladled generously atop my sandwich. It was definitely heavy but a lovely option. My mom really ordered well with a salmon shepherd's pie (called a tarte on the menu) with a beautiful mixed salad on the side. When our orders came in, the chef sang in each option with a smattering of jokes for each patron. You can really feel the cheery ambiance here in the way waitstaff and chefs treat customers and each other. The staff seem to genuinely care about the food, the customers, and each other. Efficient, tasty food at reasonable price point with lovely service? Oui, s'il-vous-plaît.

I've foie gras in another country (it's banned in California). And some have tendon and but perfectly soft like they did. Perfectly seared. With some pear which enhanced the flavor and reduced the heaviness of it. Duck confit - It's not the duck confit I had before. It's almost like a jerky duck. Very flavorful. The potatoes were well done with duck fat, bacon and garlic. The sauce goes really well with it with a bit of sweetness in the sauce. Steak - this was the only one that's not allowed me to give a 5 stars. The steak was overcooked, we asked for medium rare and it was medium well, a little on the salty side as well, but not getting point deducted because it may be how the French like it and the cheese sauce actually helped neutralize it All in all, very high quality meal. 4.5 stars.

Chic and cosy at the same time, you will leave La Petite Bouffe feeling very full (be sure to come fairly hungry/starving) but very happy. 20 eu fixed menu for dinner included an appetizer (salad with foie gras was amazing, would also recommend the duck pate), a main course (GET THE DUCK, or the lamb), a side of cheese+bread, a dessert (note, the tiramisu actually has fruits not coffee, you should only get profiteroles if you like almonds/almond liquer, and the vanilla creme brulee was warm and perfect), and also tea/coffee.
