My nurses and doctors are great! Policies on bed alarms (when not called for) will keep me from ever choosing this Hospital again! I highly recommend Novant Hospital in Matthew's. I am not a fall risk whatsoever ever. But I do have stage 4 kidney failure and SHOULD NOT hold my pee. But I have to WAIT for someone to answer my call then WAIT for them to get to my room just to turn off bed alarm so I can get up and go pee! It's absurd! They tell me management has insisted ALL bed alarms stay on! What an insane policy! I feel terrible for the nurses and aids that work here and have told them to apply at Matthew's hospital or Pineview. They know they have enough to do without constantly running to rooms so perfectly capable ppl can use the bathroom! Not to mention dealing with the many angry patients that are confined to their bed for NO REASON other than "policy"! I have one functioning kidney. So i pee OFTEN! Like every 20-25 minutes. I feel mad and frustrated and my bp has gone up and stayed up consistently due to it. Which is terrible for my kidneys. Im seriously thinking of having my husband just come get me and take me back to Matthew's tho it would be a longer commute for him. I was admitted for chest pain observation from a satellite ED. I had gone to the ED with a heart rate in the 160 to 180 range that required IV medication to "fix". The Emergency room physician advised me he wanted to admit me over night for serial blood work. There were only two diagnostic components to my admission. One was cardiac enzymes (blood work). That was due for 5:40 pm and then every 6 hours. I got to the room at 5 and immediately let the nurse know I had the lab work due. At 6:00 when he came back in the room I reminded him again. At 6:30 as he was letting me know his shift would be over soon I again reminded him the lab work was due. He made a shocked expression and told me he forgot to let the lab know I was here. My 5:40 blood was drawn around 9pm. This blood work is times for a reason. The following morning the Hospitalist let me know there was an order for an echocardiogram and that I could be discharged afterwards. He also told me that he did not think the ED physician should have even admitted me and that "they were just taking my money" as my testing could have been done outpatient. At 10am the Cardiologist came in saw me and told me the echo technician was "on her way". At 12:00 I asked the nurse if they tech would be here soon and he said there was a mix up and the order was never put in. He said because it didn't go in until 12 that there were 7 people ahead of me which would translate into "a few more hours". I have been a nurse for over 20 years and I can honestly say I have never experienced care as poor as this. I wonder what else they are "forgetting to do". I can honestly say that I will recommend that my family and friends stay away from Atrium Union. read more

I was admitted to the Waxhaw ER on Monday with a Cardiac event. (The best ER around) After tests were done they got me on a waiting list to get into a hospital. 24 hours later I am sent to Union Monroe. A doctor came in and talked to me and advised that they were going to do some blood work in the morning while I was fasting and then a treadmill stress test to duplicate my symptoms. Sometime during the night they gave me a beta-blocker which essentially masked my symptoms (high heart beat rate). No issue since they wanted me to get a good night sleep. However, in the morning before the test they gave me another one making the test irrelevant. A different Cardiologist came in and said I was getting discharged as they are not seeing my symptoms. Of course the discharge is without beta-blockers so as soon as I get out I am at risk for another episode. Unfortunately this rating us 100% on the Doctor care here at the hospital and not the nursing or auxiliary care because they were great. If you have any medical needs avoid this hospital at all costs as all you will do is accrue medical bills and be told if you are not happy to followup with your own doctor. I could have done that without a hospital stay. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. We were forced to come here because all the local hospitals were full. My husband was a patient for six days where he was largely ignored by doctors and nurses, they didn't even change his bed sheets and we could not even get the doctor to come to his room to answer questions about his lab work and his care. ZERO sense of urgency, ZERO medical answers given. I got an accurate diagnosis via text from a nurse friend and better advice during his stay and for his aftercare than I got from anyone who works at this facility. On the day of our discharge, the doctor (who only saw him for rounds in the mornings, generally around 9:30) decided to not show up until nearly NOON. We knew he was ready for discharge due to the fact that we downloaded the patient portal and were able to view his labs and then do google education because we couldn't find anyone who could answer simple questions. They refused to recheck his labs after an abnormal result. "Oh that's weird, I dunno" was what we were told more often than not. Oh did I mention the bill was over $25,000 for saline and bottled water? And two aspirin. read more

November 2021 Atrium Union: I'm still sick with my main admission & discharge diagnosis: a G/I BLEED with fatigue. It wasn't addressed while hospitalized. I've been admitted before with this and a band aid was the only tx I rcvd: a blood transfusion. I'm still suffering from the same symptoms which is making it difficult, if not impossible, for me to follow up with the out patient appts. I have more feedback, but you've limited space. within the first hour that my father was admitted, I saw very poor treatment. He had messed himself, and we turn the light on to have them come and clean them and nobody respond well since I have worked at a hospital, I know where the emergency button is and I pushed it and they came over the friggin intercom thing. Is there an emergency in your room? I said no my father messed himself. We learned you guys an hour 15 minutes ago and nobody has respond so I sent off the alarm he needs to be cleaned and he needs to be cleaned now , my father is 89 years old and I feel that because he is at that age they seem to be able to think that they can neglect him. We were on the third floor and the nurses are the worst. I will be gone talking to the floor manager tomorrow and my father's caseworker they are not going to like me , I worked at a hospital and I know how it works. Do not abuse my father because I am not a nice person. They will be getting their answers tomorrow and they better not take it out on my father. Well unfortunately I can say i've had 2 experiences here in just the past week, and that is never good. But I can say they were both positive as far as the care I received. I was in a terrible car accident when my SUV was pushed off the road into an embankment where it proceeded to flip, landing on the roof, and completely crushing everything inside of it, including me. Luckily someone was looking out for me, and I was able to climb out of the window, and walk away from the crash on my own two feet. The ambulance took me promptly to CMC Union, where I was given very good care. I was x-rayed and treated pretty quickly considering they told me they were short staffed and were having a very busy morning. Luckily I had but a mere flesh would (shoulder separation) which would require followup with an orthopedic specialist and eventually surgery. I was back at CMC Union, less than a week later for my shoulder surgery. My surgeon was amazing and very confident, where he explained the entire process to me, and made me feel as comfortable as possible. Went in at 9 am and was going home with some metal pins and clamps in my shoulder by 4 pm. Every nurse and admin employee I dealt with had a smile on their face which eased my anxiety just enough that it did not make a bad experience a worse one. Thanks to everyone at CMC Union in both the ER, and Day Surgery center for taking such good care of me. Hopefully I do not ever have to go back, but if I do I know I will be in good hands! read more

I have a 10 month old sick baby, i arrived at the hospital around 2:15 am And they didn't get us a room until 6:00 am, i don't recommend because there was more than one of us in the waiting room waiting for 4,5 hours just to be seen? as soon as i got up and asked the nurse came to get us a room because i said "a 10 month old shouldn't be waiting 4/5 hours in the waiting room for a simple bed, 5 hours is unacceptable." read more

The administrators at Atrium got game. I was warned they would do nothing about my STOLEN belongings but I didn't listen. While I'm close to death in ER their staff is STEALING my tennis shoes. Shame on you. I called the administrators to get something done and spoke with Lauren (probably a fake name they give, and she assured me that that would take care care of it. BS. She played me like a fiddle. Never did anything. She never called me back and gave me a fake number to call. My insurance paid over $225, 000 for my hospital stay and I had to walk out in yellow hospital socks. NO SHOES instead of $250 Nikes at the time. I can't even buy them for that price anymore. My advice, tell everyone you know to collect your belongings and take pictures but DO NOT DO NOT leave them unattended in the emergency room because they will get stolen by your CARE TAKERS. And the person they have claiming to care named Lauren in administration who leaves the phone number on these Google Reviews is BS. They do it to look good. NOBODY cares! Take my advice and pray you don't have an emergency in Monroe. read more

I really hate hospitals because it's a phobia but the staff here made my visit very pleasant. I had to go in for stitches in my hand, in between the index finger and my thumb. OUCH. It happened at work and it was awful. I'll spare the gruesome details but just know I needed three stitches. When we got there we signed in with the receptionist who greeted us with a smile. After waiting no longer than five minutes we were called back to the triage room to meet with Kasey. She took my information and chatted us up ( my boyfriend came with me ) and she was just so pleasant. It was really nice that she was warm and friendly and was talking because I was freaking out in the inside and it helped keep my mind off the pain. Then we went to a room and said a doctor would be with us shortly. By the time I pulled out my phone Dr. Mullins came in and greeted us with a smile and even shook my boyfriends hand. He was so helpful and helped me feel better by just being there because he just radiated the kind of vibe you wanna get in a hospital. After he left, Jason came in to do my paperwork and gave me all the info I needed to help with my workers compensation. He was answering all my questions with ease and helped clear up any confusion. Then Danielle came in to check on me and let me know that anna would be in soon. She was also kind and smiling!!! Then Anna came in. I was starting to freak out again because I saw the needles. But again, a warm smiling face and good conversation made all the difference! She let me turn the tv on so I could listen to that while she stitched me up. She also let my boyfriend sit beside me and hold my hand. It was over before I knew it and I didn't feel anything but the needle for the numbing medicine. Stacy came in afterwards and helped clean my stitches and bandage it so I was good to go!! She gave me all the papers and instructions I needed. Oh, they also have an on call drug screening gentleman. I requested it for my workers compensation form and he came out in minutes and was ready to help. He was also very nice and helpful. Long story short, if you want fast and great service, go here. I was out in an hour. Jobs are tough, especially these kinds of jobs, but people who do it with a smile make the world a better place. This hospital is absolutely horrible and the nurses are so uncaring it's palpable and affects the quality of care. My daughter came here to deliver her first baby. They kept telling her she was only 2cm dilated. They told her she didn't need an epidural at the time and that it would only get worse. Finally they agreed to the epidural because she was screaming in excruciating pain. It ended up the entire time she was 10cm and ready to deliver. Don't have your baby here as the nurses treated her like crap too. Then while we were sitting in the waiting room speaking to each other we talked about how ridiculous it was that someone went from 2cm to 10cm without them knowing and my son in law came out and said that they were informed of we said one more thing that we wouldn't be allowed to see my daughter or grandchild. I was scheduled for an MRI March 28th, and I hate MRI'S. I don't do well in confined spaces. When I got there I was greeted my Amy (clerical staff) who was warm and friendly. I was taken back to Sheri and Andrea who made me feel at ease. They talked to me thru the process and I got to listen to music thru headphones, which I thought was just Awesome. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place at all costs, that is unless you have a death wish. Never have I seen such incompetence and carelessness in what is supposed to be a professional setting. Here is just a FEW of the issues: Father arrived with a stroke causing the inability to speak, and confusion/agitation. First red flag was staff calling my mother at 5am every other morning saying "He's agitated you need to come in". This of course is not her job. The small things such as SOAKING wet briefs left open on my dads floor, bed linens remaining soaked and unchanged, leaving my paralyzed dad in the same position for hours upon hours (they only moved him when I requested. Otherwise he stayed slumped ad the bottom of the bed for hours) were nothing compared to the staff. Many nurses (not all) were not rounding on my dad like they should have, and consequently he suffered a delay in care and what I would consider willful neglect. I came in and it was clear he had had a second stroke that was much worse. I called for his RN. Response was "Well he's been like this so..". I requested to find out when his last stroke assessment had been done, had to ask 2 RN's. RN 1 came back with clear details and I was pleased until his actual RN came in and explained that she had "done one this morning at 9". I asked if this was the only one she did, she said "yes". I then asked why I was told there was one done an hour and a half before and who did that one? "Oh that was me, but I didn't wake him up." I was in the room at and before 9 and she was not there. In the chart she wrote that he was able to use his affected hand and how much so during the time she claimed she "didn't wake him up". As soon as I asked about this discrepancy she got super flustered like she had been caught. Additionally, after waiting for an hour and a half for a Dr. to come in he told my mother "Would it make you feel better if we did an MRI? as it was clear he didn't care at all. The Vascular surgeon is absolute trash and told my mother in the midst of her expressing concerns "Well we all have to die sometime." The majority of staff here do not treat patients with dignity or respect. My father's life may end unrelated to this team but I would like to think that his final days will be marked with a comfort and caring for him at this stage. Instead he is seen as the annoying confused patient with whom they would rather not deal. This is a sad excuse for a hospital and as a health care professional myself I would be ashamed to work here. read more
