I flew to Chicago to shoot a few spots for a startup and needed to hire a video crew. Being from…read moreLA, I wasn't familiar with the companies out there so choosing any company was a total shot in the dark. I had a few days to hire a crew and I called around to several businesses and individual professionals...I found the town was busy, and the options were limited. Most people I talked to, was a mix between fielding a lot of strange questions and negotiating what I could expect with the limited budget I was working with...nothing that filled me with a lot of confidence. I'm generally skeptical of negotiating with someone I've never worked with and can't assess the experience/quality of what it is that I'm negotiating. Moreover, as someone who works in film and tv in Los Angeles, I wanted some certainty that the quality in Chicago would be the same as what I was familiar with my network back in LA. I was running out of time, when a good friend recommended Ben Mahoney's company. From the minute I talked to Ben, he immediately put me at ease. He listened to my specific production needs and worked with me on the budget to find a solution. He could not have been more accommodating at what I considered to be the 11th hour! He definitely understood the type of shoot we were doing and the logistics of the space and sent his crew supplied with what he though would work for the shoot. I couldn't have been happier with his crew. His guys came ready, experienced and worked perfectly in sync with each other. I had a great experience! Now if I could get them to come out to LA...
