You MUST book a tour with Alex and his 2CV! For you those not in the know, a 2CV is a Citroën deux…read morechevaux. Extremely popular during its production years from 1948-1990 in France. A compact car with a big personality!
As one of our wedding presents, we were gifted an adventurous tour of the countryside from Concarneau to Pont-Aven. Typical of Brittany weather we encountered showers during our ride. Alex was quick with manually switching from drop-down convertible to hard top in seconds. Then back again. ha!
Some of the stops included:
* Trévignon Headlands - wildlife conservation area since 1980's. Wild, spectacular ·
Fort Le Caballou - Built in 1746, it provides a 360° view of Concarneau and Glenan Island
* Kerascoet - one of the only thatched roof villages in Bretagne, Kerascoet. Homes here are like something out of a Grimms fairytale. I would have loved to take a peek inside one.
* Port Manech & Nevez - Beautiful seaside village
* One of the oldest moules farms and distributers in Bretagne
Alex, who speaks both English and French (and I think Spanish as well!) educated us on the history of each spot we stopped in as well as those along the way. Buena Vista Social Club is playing in the background, to ensure a lively ambiance on the road. Have your cameras ready, you'll want photos of everything and be tempted to stop just about everywhere! Our final destination included a beer at my favorite beach-side bar, la châtaigneraie in Nevez (see my past review). Should you happen to visit in the summer, the beach is divine.
Being a local from Concarneau, Alex knows the roads very well! If you want a 'locals view' of the region, call up Alex and Galipette to show you around. You'll see things otherwise missed by tourists!
