I'm a huge fan of the Atlantis Submarine in Lahaina. I have been SCUBA diving many times, but my husband cannot dive because of his ears. So, he's never been able to see what I see. We booked this submarine trip and were extremely pleased with the whole experience. We booked online and got a discount. We arrived at the marina, checked in, and waited for the shuttle boat out to the sub. Everything was on time and organized. There are public bathrooms very close to where you wait for the shuttle boat. We got on the boat then on to the sub. The sub is easy to access via a slanted ladder. The sub was attractive but the seating was cramped. The trip we went on was completely sold out, so every seat was taken. The seats are on either side of a long bench. The individual seats are hard and small. That was really my only negative. The amazing part was watching my husband marvel at what he saw through the windows. We were able to see fish and a sunken ship! I've been spoiled in the past through diving, but to see someone who can't dive experience the ocean is amazing! The children on the sub really enjoyed their experience. You can actually take some decent photos through the windows. There is a really cool depth gauge on the wall to show you how deep you are. This is a great experience for anyone!! I'd give it 4.5 stars only deducting 1/2 a star for the uncomfortable and cramped seating. If you go during an off peak time, you'd probably have more room in the sub. read more

What a super cool outing with the family. Professional, safe and really interesting! We arrived for check in and were excited to a boat that takes you out about 15-20 minutes off shore to a submarine. You go across a plank to the submarine and climb down a ladder into the submarine. Each person gets a seat and a window. The whole excursion under the sea is about 45 minutes, you go from the surface down to 120-130 feet down. They take you past a shrunken ship, different reef areas, you'll see colorful fish, sharks, eels and hopefully other marine life. Felt very safe, the crew are super knowledgeable about the marine life and also their protocol for safety was apparent. Great experience to try at least once. read more

We did this tour with the kids and we absolutely loved it. The company was very organized and the facilities were very clean. Allow yourself some time to check-in and then you need to walk about a block to the dock. Once at the dock you board a boat that shuttles you to the submarine. It's a pretty cool system. The boat radios to the location of the sub and you watch it emerge from the ocean. You then disembark and board as the sub passengers disembark and board the shuttle you just left. The sub is really clean and they do a good job of utilizing the space available. Throughout the tour we saw all kinds of fish and corral. We even saw a shark!! We were so excited. There is a sunken ship to see too. The staff is really friendly and they were constantly cracking jokes. I highly recommend a tour. read more

We had so much fun on our submarine ride! I would highly recommend Atlantis. The captain and co captain were great! They made my little one feel special when he made it a point to make sure she saw the unicorn fish! From boat ride out to the submarine and back to the marina, getting loaded and going underwater, it's about an hour and 45 min. We saw quite a bit and learned a lot, which we loved! We had an amazing time at this tour. Loved seeing the floor of the ocean without a dive.

We bottomed out at about 141 feet! Worth the experience if you've never gone so far under the ocean. Maybe not for the claustrophobic, but if you've been to Disneyland and gone on the submarines there, you should be able to handle it. Only difference? You will actually be diving under the deep blue sea! There is no guarantee of what you'll see; I did see several rays gliding by along with several schools of fish. Still a once in a lifetime experience. No Sharks; No Whales; No Sea Serpents or Mermaids. Take a short boat ride out from Lahaina and the sub will be waiting for you. read more

Ideal if you have kids and/or have not snorkeled or dived. The boat trip over to the sub was nice as was the orderly manner we were instructed to board. A laminated paper near the window noted some of the things we might see and it was cool to mentally tick things off as saw them. I wanted to do one activity on this trip that was a little daring for me. for most people this isn't even a little bit scary but thinking about going in a submarine at 130 ft below the surface freaked me out, but safety was emphasized at all times during this tour. as other reviews point out, this is not the most comfortable experience for those claustrophobic or a bit bigger in size. I was lucky to have been seated on the way end by the front of the submarine, so the only person next to me was my boyfriend on one side and a few empty seats between me and our guide. however, seeing every one packed together in the middle like sardines was a tad nightmarish. I wouldn't have handled this trip as well if I was placed in the back or middle. So if you're someone who could use the extra space like me, maybe consider requesting to be placed in the front of they can accommodate that. Additionally, if you're anxious about being packed together during COVID, this isn't the trip for you. they filled the seats up as much as possible but I understand they gotta do what they gotta do to keep this company running. otherwise we had a lot of fun on this excursion. lots of fish to see in addition to the sunken ship, plus we were lucky to have seen several (small and sleeping) sharks on this trip. it's an experience you don't get to have in many places so I highly recommend. if nothing else, the boat ride to and from the submarine is so relaxing and stunning. being in the front meant I got to see our captain at work. and Mitchell was a great tour guide. Watching the submarine surface and later go under was so oddly exciting to watch. definitely would do this again! read more

We actually had done this very Atlantis trip 10 years ago sans kids, so this was our first with kids. Our kids loved it...the guide/host was wonderful - very informative, knew the science and was detail oriented. I wish I could recall his name but he made the trip very enjoyable. 10 years ago, the sunk boat had just been sunk to the bottom as part of their underwater sub adventure. It was good to see how teeming it was with marine life now along with the corals and barnacles growing on it. We enjoyed actually hearing the names of the fish we were seeing along with the shark, sting rays, etc. Absolutely fun one for our family. read more

This adventure was amazing! We went this past week and had a blast! The crew was very professional but also extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. Rachel was our guide, she was awesome! As someone who doesn't snorkel or scuba dive, this was a great opportunity to see all the sea life. it was so cool to ride on the submarine. I usually have a bit of a problem with motion sickness, but the ferry out to the submarine and the submarine ride was very smooth, no sickness at all. They prepare you for the sub surfacing so you can record it if you want. The ride itself is really cool and we saw a lot of rays, sharks, and various fish. This was a fun activity. We bought this through Ticket for Less and saved a decent amount of money. It starts with a boat ride out to where the sub is Moore's to a tug boat. The staff are friendly and encourage interactive participation with trivia about the islands. Cheesy jokes abound. We took the first tour out and there were only as many people as it took to fill half the sub. We were fortunate that there was only one toddler and she was not overly noisy. Good luck if you have boisterous toddlers on your journey as you won't hear the tour guide. The only difficult we had was that the tour guide sits at the front of the sub and we were the last one on. He describes ocean life features that the people at the back of the sub 1) cannot see and 2) may not see if they swim off by the time the back of the sub reaches the position where the tour guide points out the feature. This happened several times. Other than that we saw many fish, including white tipped shark. No mammals, no turtles. They stress for people to use reef-friendly sun blockers as regular sun block can kill coral. He also talked about how coral only grows an inch per year. No coral, no fish. They sunk a ship and created a mini eco system that seemed to be a natural draw for many ocean life. All in all, it is well worth the experience but try to sit as close to the front of the sub as possible or you will miss some features. read more

We booked a tour for 4 adults, a child, and 2 infants. We specifically used the website and chose infant which was a choice THEY provided. When we arrived they told us infants aren't allowed and they wouldn't refund us. When we asked why it was an option if not allowed he just laughed it off and said we should know the rules that aren't listed anywhere. When we asked where we could find the rules he didn't know. We had a great time it was a little bit of a drive from our hotel but when we got there the staff was friendly and courteous and very professional I have to admit I was a little bit nervous about going on a submarine but the crew was amazing and we all felt very comfortable the other thing that was nice is for every adult ticket we purchased we got a kid ticket for free so it took a little bit of the bite out of buying seven take it :-) and sometimes clostaphobic and was not nervous at all on the sub My wife and kids had an amazing time we saw 11 raise which is a record they said that they've never seen that many together at one time I look forward to doing it again sometime read more

It's definitely a cool experience. It is a bit pricey, over $100 for adults but I think it's worth it for certain people. I still prefer snorkeling (I've had some great snorkeling around the world) but for those who can't or won't snorkel, this is pretty cool. My 7 and 6 yos really liked it. My 3 yo didn't care for it too much. Grandma also liked it. We did see 2 sharks and several spotted eagle rays in addition to bunch of different fish. You hover around 70-100 feet and even get to see a shipwreck. There were a bunch of scuba divers at the shipwreck when we were there. It plunks down on the sand around 130 feet towards the end. All in all a bit pricey but worth it for certain people. There were no problems with ear pain from pressure changes. The ambient pressure seemed pretty constant the entire time. read more

So far this tour has been the highlight of our trip. My husband and I booked a last minute tour, and we were blown away. All of the staff were so welcoming and friendly, and the commentary during the tour was informative and comical. From start to finish, the tour is a little less than 2 hours: including a boat ride out of the harbour to the submarine, submarine tour of multiple reefs, and then the boat trip back to the harbour. Excellent excursion! I brought my three year old and they loved it! They really made it fun and kid and adult friendly! The whole thing is about two hours but you get to see some coral reefs, anchors and a sunken ship. You sink to 130feet at the bottom. Very fun very cool. I would prefer this to scuba diving. The only thing I didn't really care for is on the ferry ride back to the docks the worker really high pressured sell on everything: your personal pictures, eating at captain jacks etc. I feel like he had to talk the whole time Over the intercom and in reality, I'd rather enjoy the boat ride in paradise and peace. Got lucky and got to see sharks , Jack's, Ray's an eel and a bunch of beautiful fish. Be cautious where you sit on the boat taking you out to the dive sight. That's the order they load you onto the sub and if you're a smaller person next to a bigger person you will be sharing space on the sub if they do not fit in their seat. read more

The whole family took this trip. It was fun. It was interesting. But, I enjoy snorkeling more. Its totally cool going down 100 feet and you certainly see things you don't see snorkeling but the there are more fish snorkeling and more vibrant colors. Of course I've never seen a ship at the bottom of the ocean snorkeling. The ride out to the sub was fun. The crew was great. The narration entertaining and informative. It was comfortable inside during the dive. If you go, mid day is best as there is more light at 100+ feet down. read more

The shuttle ride out to the waters to get into the submarine is probably the best part lol. In terms of seeing tons of fish, yes, for just half the time underwater. Let's put it this way, you'll see more fish snorkeling instead of being cramped inside this so-called sub. And not a real, navy sub either. Though more or less, you can have your own circular window to look through but if you are 5'10" and taller, it will be uncomfortable. Just a bench in the middle, no back support. About 12 ppl on either side. Refreshed the port, starboard sides. Tour guide actually quite knowledgeable about the different fishes. At least I can say I was 130 feet under water. read more

We saw stingrays, fish and few sharks. Only complaint we had was that it was too full, some people needed 2 seats and that made us miserable because we were packed and it became a little warm. Review for 2 people, November visit: - fun for all ages! - they recommend you check in 30 minutes before the departure time. Go to the Atlantis Shop located near the Pioneer Inn first. - you'll pick up your boarding pass. Then... - you take a 10 minute boat ride from one of the docks (slips) to the submarine. - go to the bathroom before getting on the boat ride/boat shuttle! - ladies: don't wear a dress as you'll be climbing down stairs into the submarine. - we saw a lot of fish without getting wet! :) - some people may feel queasy when in the submarine; so be aware if you are someone that is prone to seasickness that you may not enjoy this. - each person gets their own porthole to look through (there was about 30 of us). - total time from getting on the boat shuttle and getting back on dry land was 2.5 hrs. We really enjoyed this experience. The only reason it's not 5 stars is there are no bathrooms on the boats so make sure you go before you leave! The tour guide was super knowledgable and humorous with his story telling and educating we call that edutainment!
