I cannot recommend Kyle's Marine Repair. While I was initially referred by a Palatka marina, my…read moreexperience with a $6,400 repair on my 2008 Sea Ray 280 Sundancer (twin 4.3L engines) was disastrous. After Kyle diagnosed and replaced the starboard trim pump, I authorized additional work to fix a loose port outdrive and replace 5-year-old bellows. During the repair, Kyle noted bad seals, which I also authorized. Since the work was completed, the boat has suffered multiple failures: 1. **Gear Oil Leak:** In March 2026, I found a large oil puddle under the port outdrive. Kyle's team was unavailable for two weeks. I hired another mechanic who found a broken fitting on the stern--a part that was intact before Kyle's shop touched the drive. They also found a cracked reservoir tank. Even after these fixes, the leak returned. 2. **Bellows Failure:** When the outdrive was removed by the second mechanic, the bellows and the drive itself were filled with water, indicating improper installation or sealing. 3. **Engine Lockup:** On a subsequent trip, the engine stopped and would not turn over. A diagnostic revealed the outdrive was completely locked up. 4. **Throttle Synchronization:** The motors were not synchronized; one throttle was nearly 1/2 inch ahead of the other to achieve the same RPM. 5. **Pricing Discrepancy:** I was charged $206 for gear oil. Since both outdrives only require ~3 quarts total (approx. $60 in materials), I was overcharged by roughly $146. I requested a refund for the excess, which was ignored. Kyle did not test the repairs. I contacted him six months after the outdrive repairs and before I put the boat in the water about the oil leak and 11 months when I found the starboard bellows were not installed correctly. He attempted to blame me for these issues rather than addressing the clear workmanship failures. If you value your boat, take your business elsewhere.

This company tried to charge us twice for work they were supposed to have already done. They said…read moreit could be as much as $2,000. I got someone else to fix it for less than Kyle's "diagnostic fee." Then, they approved the estimate for us without me doing it and scheduled an appointment to come without my input or knowledge. When I brought this up as an issue to them, I was told that I was being overly aggressive and unnecessarily rude. When I asked for a refund for the 20 minute diagnostic, I was told that I was having a temper tantrum.
