I did 2 two self guided rides for a total of 100 miles (160k) that were just gorgeous! Prague country side is really set up for biking with clearly marked routes and trails. And since everyone seems to bike themselves, car drivers were very patient and respectful of bicycles on the few times I was using the same tarmac. Both my routes spent a lot of time on the river so it was really worth the effort to get up early and enjoy glistening sunshine on the water. Be advised that once you get out of town few people speak any English. As an avid cyclist I would highly recommend the shop and the ride

This was such a fantastic time. This was probably our best day in Prague yet. We had Miki as our tour guide and he was so great! He was very conscious of all the riders in the group. Anytime anyone needed anything he made sure we got it. He even helped us order at the restaurant we stopped at. There were so many things we saw today we would never have seen had we not booked this tour. I would say if you are visiting this is an absolute must.

How am I the first person to write a review on Yelp about the Stasi museum in Leipzig? Wow. Just…read morewow. It's amazing to learn the many layers of history a country has and we all know Germany is rich in history. The 20th century alone was just craziness. Who knew Leipzig was the epicenter of the German secret police? I sure didn't. When my friend took me here to explore the museum it was mind blowing. It's so unreal to think that this didn't happen that long ago and it was happening in my generation. Husbands told on Wives. Children told on parents. Neighbors told on neighbors. Located in the former Stasi headquarters (that's deep!), it's free to enter and you have the option to purchase an audio guide (recommended, unless you can read German). It's nice because it's self guided, so you can stay in each room as long as you want. Each room is different, with various scenes depicting Stasi Germany. I think my favorite things (if you can call it that) were the disguises they used. It's literally out of the movies. Fake mustaches, briefcases with wigs, powder, suglasses, anything. It's really fascinating and scary that this wasn't scripted. It was real life for people not that long ago. You can also go to the site where they executed and tortured victims. More good times. We skipped that. A definite must see if you you're in this part of the world.

I returned to this part of Germany to see this museum in particular and learned that Vladimir Putin served some time in Dresden and Leipzig. If you want to understand why those who lived under the Eastern Bloc are the way they are, then understand each of us are the sum total of our experiences. There was no trust on the part of the authorities.

Once we made it into the building, we were rudely greeted by two old and angry women, and told to go downstairs for tickets. We were directed to self service lockers for coats and backpacks then to purchase tickets. The same rude "greeters" on the first floor practically yelled at me because I had my purse with me. She demanded that I return and store it in the locker. I asked if I could keep it with me because it contained my passport and with a stern and rude "nein" she turned me away. I did manage to put my valuables in my pocket in hopes that there are no pick pockets in the museum. The museum's collection is impressive, but the curation is not up to par. Many of the master works are behind glass such as Raphael's Sistina Madonna. The skylights and lighting above the Sistina Madonna casted a terrible glare, which made it impossible to enjoy the piece from a direct front view. The pieces are incredible, which would make this a 5* museum, but the terrible curation and horrible customer service bumped down 2*.

We attended the guided tour of Leipzig. We're recent migrants to Leipzig from Australia and figured…read moreit would give us a feel for our new home. The tour costs a very affordable 15€ and includes a one hour walking tour then two hours on a bus (without stops). The afternoon tours are often in German and English (my Deutsch is beginner level) and the tour leader speaks first in German then English. The walking tour is around the city centre and shows a range of architecture, monuments and sites of interest. Enjoyable with plenty of tips for places to visit in the future. We then popped on a rather comfy coach for a two hour trip around Leipzig. The tour leader didn't stop talking once! A running commentary is indeed what you get. As someone who teaches workshops I was greatly in awe of her stamina. We saw neighbourhoods where the rich people live, sites of gentrification, a lovely refurb of a warehouse into loft apartments over a canal and of course landmarks of note like statues, monuments, libraries, galleries etc. My main criticism is that I would have like to hear more about the women of Leipzig (Wagner, Goethe et al are celebrated with pride) but this more a fault of modern history than the tour itself. Further, as the only person on the tour who didn't speak much German, I generally got a sentence to everyone else's paragraph. I had an earache all week and didn't have the greatest head for facts and figures so I wasn't bothered, but some may be.
