Honestly this place use to be a good bargain. You would see the quantity then you would see the prices and you know that this is a deal but now I find myself really looking for the bargains. Don't get me wrong as would still find what your looking for from a bag of potatoes to a garden shed. I mean the place does have anything you would need, it's just that the prices are normally and by the time the cashier adds the VAT then you know it is less than glamorous. I have resorted to waiting for the Makro mail so I can identify special offers and deals for there fresh meats.

It sells food products, electrical goods, tools, furniture, clothing and shoes, housewares, wines, spirits and beers, toiletries, giftware, stationery, in fact everything that you would find in a traditional department store, only without the luxury surroundings. You do have to be careful to remember that the prices on the merchandise do not include V.A.T. so some things are not as much of a bargain as they appear to be.

Btw, I really love the differences in Costco cafe food items between US and UK. There was a pulled pork sandwich for sale at the cafe here which I heroically resisted getting as wasn't very hungry. CostCo in England is one of the few places you can get many American foods which is great for a yank like myself while working overseas. On top of the American products, they naturally have many British products in bulk, as well Word on my street is they only sell to businesses in the UK so thank goodness for my American CostCo card, woohoo! They have the signature beef hot dog (American hot dogs are hard to find in the UK) for the super cheap price of just 1.50 pounds and it comes with a pop. Fantastic deal and reminded me of being at home.

That said, I also love looking around at Costco in the UK as people purchase flats of scones and gargantuan boxes of tea. There's a happy commentary about international relations in that visual, I think. Or maybe people the world over just like to shop. Whichever whatever. Prices are good, but not always a mega-deal (if you're a die-hard bargain shopper). However, there is a great range of American products, which end up being _much_ more affordable than purchasing them (plus shipping) on "US product" sites or special ordering them. Multi-pound tub of Red Vines? Yeah, I'm looking at you. To round out the experience I'd also like to note: hotdogs, like back in 'Murrica, are also 1.50. Slices of pizza (cheese, pepperoni, BBQ chicken) are 1.60 or so. Full pizzas also available for impromptu pizza parties (or, like, you and your bestie watching True Blood). To cater to British tastes the chicken caesar has been swapped out for jacket potatoes, but all else is in order. It's a great place to cheaply grab a bite of simple carbs and saturated fats. Yum dash oh. Beware weekends, and avoid Christmas times. Trust. Yelp note: note the opening hours: hours for those with "business" cards are different than for those, like lil' ol' me, with standard issue cards. Double-note: cash, no credit.

I know Japan Centre has similar quality but the price point is not always right. Chinatown is good for some things (fresh veggies, fresh rice noodle rolls, ramen, etc.) but it's hard to beat the selection at H-Mart. There is good lighting and sufficient aisle space so carts going in opposite directions don't have to awkwardly back out of the aisle so the opposing cart can go first (kind of like the naughty London roads!) - in most grocery stores in Chinatown, you are elbow to elbow with someone else trying to get a damn jar of Hoisin sauce in your overflowing basket. Customer service is lacking, especially when something is out of stock and no one in the store seems to know what is going on or when they will get more. Aside from the cashiers, most people working the floor do not speak English very well. The employees are mainly Korean and Chinese. However, most items are translated to English on labels and signage. I will continue to shop here for quality groceries and I hope they open more locations so that it is easily assessable to more people in London.

This sells a lot of items in bulk which often makes the price cheaper in the long run. Items have their prices on display exclusive of v.a.t though so you need to do some calculating to ensure you are making a saving. There are many offers starting on a wednesday which they advertise through their magazine - these are Makromail items and are often snapped up quickly - so get in quick to avoid dissapointment. This store always has an abundance of helpful staff to help reach items located high up or, on one occassion, pushed my trolley round for me as I was in difficulty! They sell a selection of pretty much anything household - from food to towels to bedding to toiletries and much more and if thirsty or peckish, they have a happy friendly cafe for very cheap priced coffee, snacks and meals. They do not have any bags so make sure you bring plenty or you will need to load your purchases directly into the car - lots of carparking spaces directly outside and within easy reach of junction 9 off the M27.

I explained that this would be difficult for her as she would be on her own. Doesn't matter, not their problem as they have policies in place. CHAD, the manager and truly an unsympathetic moron, asserted that GDPR is the reason. What on earth does GDPR have to do with returning items in a store? CHAD couldn't even bring himself to mutter a simple "sorry for your loss..." Disgraceful and arrogant conduct. He finished the discussion with a threat to terminate my mother's membership as he found my comment that I would be posting this episode on social media unacceptable. I see many negative comments on Costco Watford associated specifically with CHAD. Please return this guy to stacking shelves where he belongs.
