This review is not intended to insult or criticize the owners--it is designed to help out travelers --especially in white out driving conditions... (there was a level 3 winter storm 4 days ago) They will call you around 2pm to get your estimated arrival time--you should arrive before dark (4:30 pm). There's a rest stop like a 1/2 of a mile from the cabin--I would stop there to pee so, that it's not too hard to listen to the welcome talk... (my puppy messed up their floor & Frank was really nice about it) In order to get to At Boulder's Edge, there is in fact a steep and narrow hill--I would want 4WD. The side roads are not plowed and salted... (rev your engine to like 60 mph at the bottom of the hill so, you have enough power to make it over the top) Finding the cabin is not easy in white out conditions and there is a narrow bridge to cross... We are staying in the Tall Pines cabin--our front door doesn't seem to lock from the inside... When we arrived the hot tub was ready to use at 102 degrees. However, the cabin was probably 20 degrees like outside... (maybe it was 40 degrees) we turned every floor heater on max (85 degrees) & the fire place on--we were lucky if it was even 70 degrees which took about 2 hours to achieve and it's never increased... for the two freezing hours I was prepared since, I have "purple hands arthritis" --with 4 layers of clothes on, blankets, gloves, hats, ear muffs, etc... freezing bothered me since they called about or arrival time and I was just so sick... but, I was prepared by bringing lots of extra comforters, big towels, old sheets, robes, and snuggies... (a hassle to pack though)... if you have a medical condition--I would text them to ask for the cabin to be preheated--they are responsive and nice... I didn't get any 3 star hotel vibes--there's not really cable--it's direct tv powering up antenna tv channels... there's no TVs in the bedrooms... there's no internet... there's no washer and dryer... no dishwasher... the appliances are dated... I'm guessing the owner built the beds because he sounded really proud of them but, there's nothing keeping the mattress in place... once again bring extra comforters... so, there's a metal sound like a wind chime that's driving my dog nuts... we normally sleep with the tv on... it's just so much worse than being at home... (we left a day early) if you come in the winter--call to verify the utilities are working before you drive out... this is a great cabin for vegans because there are not any dead animals hanging on the walls... the decor is hearts... The cabin doesn't have an address so, there's no way to get DoorDash or pizza delivery without driving up to the gift shop... I heard there are 32 restaurants in the area but, only a few are national chains... So we wake up and our phone charger and pillows are wet--there isn't a headboard so, I guess the wall sweat... Kitchen: there are really nice named brand dishes and no products... there's a coffee maker with 4 packs of maxwell house coffee and filters... there's dish liquid... No: Salt Pepper Sugar Coffee creamer Cooking spray Reynolds wrap Mop Pizza pan Kleenex The ice is homemade and the cabin has well water... Dollar Tree is 4 miles away... Dollar General is 2 miles away... The hot tub is refreshing even in the winter... read more

I will have to agree with Angie about this being the best place to stay in the Hocking Hills area!! We were here about 2 years ago and really enjoyed our stay for the weekend. We brought our dog and he felt at home, just like we did. You do have all of the amenities that you need including a very clean hot tub! The owners are very friendly. They ask that you do not wander off to the other areas on the property, just to give the others staying there their privacy. We are planning another weekend getaway to the cabin again this year. Cant wait!! We stayed at a different cabin at another location last year and it wasnt as nice as At Boulders Edge. We compared the other cabin to ABE and when planning our trip this year, we werent going to stay anywhere else than here!!! read more

This was our first time out to hocking hills and we had a wonderful experience hiking and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. The only issue with our cabin was it smelled like a moldy antique store. I would recommend a dehumidifier for the Tall Pine cabin. Our clothes were damp and there literally was water and condensation on the floors and dripping off the doors. That being said, The owners are very nice and helpful if you needed anything. The hot tub on the cold night was incredible and after much searching (because of the snow) the fire pit was fun to hang around and cook on. They also provide a propane grill and every meal we cooked on it was delicious. The cabins come with all the essentials for living. You only need to bring soap and food. Also if you're a whiskey/spirits drinker bring a supply with you, the nearest liqour store is 40 miles away if you run out which I did. hocking hills is a great area and the folks we met were nice. We stayed Feb. 23-27 and would dif. Return to the area for spring/summer to go canoeing. The humidity issue needs to be addressed and we'd absolutely come back. Adventures in the teepee zone! We stayed in the Thundering Horses Teepee and it was far better than we could have imagined. The teepee itself is huge! We had more than enough room for our family and all our gear. The area devoted to our teepee was large as well. More than enough space for a round of frisbee golf with our grandson and room for three hammocks! We were located next to a beautiful pond with iris, water lillies, and singing frogs that lulled us to sleep each night. Don't worry about the strength of this teepee, it weathered a tremendous thunderstorm that gave credence to it's name. It's also built atop a clean sturdy wooden deck with plenty of drainage so we stayed safe and dry during the storm. The storm did provide a great light show! During each flash of lighting you could see the silhouettes of the galloping horses on the walls! It was like being inside a Western movie! The resort itself is also beautiful. The grounds are immaculate and very spacious. It is only a 7 minute drive to Kroger or Walmart for supplies, but secluded enough to be a great star gazing spot and be sure to check out the "lighting bug" show in the pasture across the road. Literally thousands of twinkling lights. Boulders Edge is located directly across from Rock Bridge Nature Reserve, that made it so convenient for an early morning hike. You are also within a 15-minute drive to Ash Cave or Old Man's Cave. Frank and Renee are wonderful hosts. From the moment we checked in we felt welcome and at home. Frank gave us wonderful tips on what to see and do. If you are looking for a unique camping experience and wholesome fun activities for adults and kids alike, the teepee camping experience is a must do! read more

If you plan on having a wedding here don't. They scam people. They don't let you have your own photographer because it's "private property". You can only have 12 people including you and your significant other and you aren't aloud to have family come in while getting ready. You also can only have 4 cars all together. Once we found all of this out and saw other reviews we called a week or two to get our refund since we didn't sign anything about not getting a refund but we were told on the website they had a no refund policy and the information they sent us a week later also had it but neither of them mentioned not getting our money back for a wedding package. Moral of the story they stopped answering our calls once my fiancé called the lady out on it. I I do not recommend this place because it's all controlled how THEY want it. read more

A 3-day gift stay for my wife and me, late September 2021. Here's a long review, sorry. The particulars only cover the Dot Calm cabin. (What a name!) Good: * Renee' and Frank (and Laurie) are great hosts; Laurie created an amusing and thoughtful welcome sign on the master bed. * The cabin and grounds were very clean and quiet. Good distance and trees between cabins. * The water tastes just fine, no chemicals or minerals. * The large rear deck looks out into a slight valley, trees nearby. Saw a deer once, if that's important. Two Adirondack-style chairs and four high-tops with a table. * The "rain-shower" head in the shower is amazing. It was hard not to just stand there, relaxing. I'm 6'4" and had about 1" to spare to the shower head. * We took two showers in a row and did not run out of hot water. * The cabin's living room is spacious. Wood everything. * Ample towels are fluffy and smell fresh. * King bed is very comfortable. (We brought our own pillows.) Linens also fresh. * Carpet in the bedroom. * Kitchen utensils are sufficient. Corel-ware for dishes. * Four-burner electric stove. (It's been a while for me, electric cooking.) * Standard fridge. * Most paper products supplied. Excluded Kleenex, bring some. (The TP was between hotel quality and Charmin.) * Soap, shampoo, conditioner, and dishwashing liquid provided. * A curious "treasure hunt" for various geegaws. Amuse yourself. * Large-screen TV. (I did not watch it, though my wife tried to. See below.) * 12-pot coffee maker, with ground Maxwell House provided. No decaf. * Pricing is in the general market for what's provided, but more than two people are $20 each. * The gas fireplace heats things up pretty quickly. * Flyswatter included. (The stink bugs were in season.) * Box-fan included. (I like white noise when sleeping.) * Important : the Rockbridge Preserve is within walking distance : no driving! We did two hikes over the two days, to the Natural Bridge and the Rock Ledge, each about 2.8 miles from our cabin. It was a very pretty woodland walk, if slightly challenging, over hilly terrain. * A telescope of sorts, which I used briefly, although not at stars. Bring some binoculars. * "Pet friendly" -- we don't have any -- but I could not smell anything. Iffy (and here I am being picky): * The bathroom is accessed through the bedroom. So if people are sleeping on the futon they will have to come through to use it. * There is no closet nor chest-of-drawers to hang or store clothes. * There is no spare shelving to store food. * My wife used the hot tub and enjoyed it; I thought the chlorine smell was overwhelming and so declined. (I assume they have little choice in that matter.) And while sitting on the deck, the incessant 60 Hz hum from the hot tub was audible. * The light over the dining room table is perhaps 25 W. Personally, I like to see what I'm eating. * There are no table nor floor lamps in the main room. Illumination is from the fan lamps, three bulbs above, but that makes it a harsh light if one is reading on the comfortable recliner or futon. * The bathroom light is overhead, so I assume it might not be best for makeup? Not my province. But there is a nice small mirror that swings out and has a magnifier on the back side. * Apparently one must be an engineer to figure out the Direct TV. My wife struggled. I read a book and was unhelpful (as usual). * There is a 3-valve grill on the deck, but the innards are rather rusty. If you are a griller, bring some aluminum foil. * No Internet, wired or otherwise. Yeah, I know, I'm pathetic. I think that about covers it. We'd certainly stay again if we're in the area. Maybe a different cabin, just to see. So I'd say 4.5 Stars. And give Laurie a tip. read more

At Boulders Edge is the perfect getaway location to visit all of Hocking Hills and all its historical wonders without dealing with all the hectic traffic. They have 1 lodge, 3 cabins, and 3 tipis that you can stay in. Frank and Renee made my wife and I's honeymoon perfect with the Sky View cabin. The cabin was extremely clean and we had all the essentials for everything besides food and drinks. The hot tub was amazing! Wish the weather would have been a little cooler but either way you just can't beat a hot tub. We will definitely be returning next year! read more

Such a great place, very friendly! I was a little worried about getting there on time for check in but I called Frank, told him we'd be cutting it close and he was more than understanding and told me to drive safe. The teepee was so much fun. My kids had a blast. My kids will never forget the weekend we stayed in a teepee. Frank gave us tips on how to catch frogs at his pond and the kids LOVED trying to catch them. Firewood was very reasonably priced compared to other campgrounds we've been to. There were only three teepees on the grounds so it was spacious and secluded. The outside shower was very cool, nice and refreshing in the morning and was definitely warmer by the end of the day for the kids. Very clean, one of the cleanest facilities we've been to. Frank even lit up a big brush pile for us on our last night there. It was so much fun. Highly recommend. read more

My husband and I rented a tipi. We made the purchase online. I did not like how the owners sent us emails with capital letters and exclamation marks. There was a two-night minimum stay. Upon check-in, the owner unexpectedly gave us Jello shots. We purchased wood from him, and he promptly delivered it. The traditional tipi was neat to look at. The floor was wooden deck boards with dirt, rocks, weeds, and insects in between the boards. There was a wood-burning stove in the middle. There was a Porta John to share with the other customers. The shower and sink were unfortunately out of service although it was above freezing at night and about 80 degrees during the day. We could not get the wood to burn in the stove, so we ended up using none of it. The owner did not offer us a refund. The tipi had large holes at the door, the top, and all around the bottom. Many huge spiders crawled all over us. I had packed sleeping bags and many blankets so was warm even without the fire, but I was uncomfortable and could not sleep and did not like the spiders. At 2:30 AM on our first night, my husband and I decided to leave and to drive all night until we returned home to Pittsburgh at 7 AM (all of the hotels in the Hocking Hills area and neighboring counties were booked). We lost out on our money for that night and the second night. The tipi is a fun idea, but a closed tent would be more comfortable and have fewer spiders. We will not return. read more

The time spent in At Boulders Edge, Skyview Cabin, was one of the best times we shared as a family. Very peaceful, private and clean. And we felt very safe there as well. I researched many other cabins and picked here because it's "kid friendly and pet friendly". Everything was just perfect with At Boulders Edge/Skyview cabin and Hocking Hills. We've had a lot of "first times" like seeing a humming bird and horseback riding. It was sad to leave but we know it will be just as exciting when we go back!! read more

I was looking forward to a nice secluded getaway from my wife and I since we haven't had a vacation in over 2 years since starting our business. Frank and Renee were extremely helpful in getting things lined up for me. Unfortunately, the great customer service stopped at That point. I had a nice couples massage and personal chef coming our first night to start the trip off right. Unfortunately I missed the mark on doing that and my wife wanted those cancelled. Her and I both were still excited for the rest of the trip. We had hiking, zip lining, and kayaking all scheduled up. I called Renee and advised we wanted to cancel the massage and chef. She called back an hour later and said we couldn't cancel that. I said ok and that I would tell them when they showed up. Here is where things get really bad. A little later, I received a phone call that one of our closest family friends son died of an overdose. My wife and I were shattered and knew we needed to get home. I then spoke with Renee again and said we needed to leave. She even said she felt bad for us. After handling family matters, I jumped away to get a rain check for our zip lining. The canopy tour company simply had to verify we left and that was it. When they called Renee she told them that we left because my wife didn't want to be in Hocking Hills. She also sent them the voicemail where I said we did not want the massage and chef! I never said anything about zip lining. So now, not only am I out all the money paid for a massage and chef(my fault), I am also out the money for the cabin and zip lining. When did small businesses stop caring about the guest and start spreading out right lies? Being a small business owner and also a consultant for numerous other small businesses, I can without a doubt say this would never happen with any business I am involved in. I will be putting these postings on any and all review sites I can find in hopes that people will think twice before dealing with these snakes. read more

This place is 2.5 hours from Cincinnati. Well worth the drive. We traveled with a large group of ten adults and three babies. Our party stayed in the Thundering Horses Tipi with a few tents pitched for overnight space or to let the babies nap. The setting is very picturesque right by a pond with loads of room to spread out. The Tipi was larger than appreciated when you first walk in. We had three queen air mattresses and two pack n'plays in there and could have fit more. The property is clean and the Thundering Horses Tipi was off on its own right when you pull into the drive. You don't have any neighbors. The road to the three cabins and other Tipis does run beside it but that was not an issue as there was almost no traffic at all! The wood they sold us was very dry and burned well. Renee was helpful and responsive and emails were always answered quickly. The Tipi itself was really neat. What a great idea for a business! There was a well maintained port a john just a short walk away and a shower that was chilly but VERY refreshing after a day of hiking and sitting in the sun outside. There was enough room for the kids to run around, the guys to throw the football and people to pitch multiple tents. The only room for improvement would be the picnic table which had a very warped board on one side making it pretty difficult to use. Not a big deal. Thundering Horses is the Tipi you want if you are coming with a smaller group. If you had a large group you would be better off getting the two Tipis that are set off further down the road together (Big Buck and Redtail Hawk). We would have done this but one was already reserved. The prices are very reasonable. I can't say enough what a good time we had and how relaxed we felt. The trail right off of the property is 1.7 miles and leads to a very interesting natural bridge and a river or stream (not sure because we didn't continue that far) beyond that. Loved our stay. At first everything seemed great. The gentleman who greeted us was named Frank and referred to himself as the owner. He was very nice and allowed us to check in early. He delivered 2 buckets of wood to our tipi at a total of $40. The wood was WET. in fact the owner even stated "It's wet but dry in the middle, you should be fine." We ended up spending the night DRYING out the WET wood on the hot stove inside the tipi. The stove was only going because of our own paper supply as the wood was not burning properly because it was WET. I would say that everything had been fine if it were not for the simple reason of the other owner Renee, being rude to me when I asked upon check-out if we could please be refunded $20 for one batch of wood, because we didn't even use more than half of a "bucket". I explained that my group and the other tipi next to us had issues with WET wood. Her response simply was "We don't refund after delivery, and that group ended up ordering another bucket." I found rude as if she was arguing with me, because she was. I explained again how we had trouble with it and it just didn't seem fair to give us soaking wet wood and to have us pay for that, and we didn't use it all due to it being wet. Her argumentative response was "Well, it wasn't soaking wet." I found this upsetting because she was not there when the wood was delivered and would not know personally that the wood we receive was in fact wet. If Renee had been more willing to accommodate us and give us good service, I would be rating the experience as a 4. read more

I have been camping for many years, and this was the WORST experience ever!! The employees and the website claim its a family friendly place, but they are wrong! What you don't see on the web site are all the rules they have. I had saved what little money I earn for our family vacation once a year and thought it would be nice to enjoy the cabins and the tipi with other family members too... It quickly turned ugly, when we got there we learned that if you were staying in the cabins you could not talk to or have anyone from the tipi's over, (we had family in both?) (what do you mean i can't see my family?) if you were not staying on the property you could not come on to the property... (The rest of the family could not visit either?).. We thought we would just make the best of it, and go to a different location to be with family there.. (but why? this is why we rented here) While we were away, something had gone through our stuff and tipped the garbage can over, didn't think much about it. Luckily we didn't unpack the food and we didn't use the garbage, so not much to clean up. Got everyone ready for bed and asleep, about 3 am we hear an animal eating right outside the tipi, my husband gets up to see what it was, he found a raccoon eating something but couldn't tell what until we turned the lantern on, the raccoon came into the tipi and walked by all of us, got on top of our table and took the unopened cereal we had.. We also realized that the raccoon didn't get in through the front door, he got in from behind where the tipi was so far off the ground!!! I was freaked out, I have two small children and was very concerned for them, so we packed up and went to the cabins were we had other family members staying. The next morning my husband and I went to talk to the owner to see if there was anyway he could put something up around the bottom of the tipi so the raccoon couldn't get back in. The man went off on us! he said he couldn't control the wildlife and there was nothing he could do. We tried again to ask for a way he could make it so the animal couldn't get in by maybe chicken wire or something, instead of trying to work with us, he told us we had 20min to get off his property and that he was not refunding our money! I was shocked! Sadly we couldn't do anything, we tried talking to the man but he wouldn't listen. So we had to packed up, and say good bye to our family and the trip we had saved for and find another place to stay. PLEASE what every you do, don't stay here! They sound all friendly at first, until they get your money and know you have no recourse and then they treat you anyway they want... Find a different place read more
