Full story: We hired Wells and Sons Chimney Service to clean and inspect our gas burning fireplace. They discovered the chimney lining completely deteriorated and a fire hazard leaking carbon monoxide into the house. July of 2020 we contracted them to install a Fireguard mortar joint system in the chimney to correct the problems. Assuming our fireplace was now clean and safe to use we had a gas fireplace specialist come out to turn the gas back on and adjust the gas logs. During visual inspection the specialist noticed the entire smoke chamber was not lined, therefore still unsafe for use and leaking CO. The specialist contacted Wells himself and they stated "maybe it fell off". Wells & Son then came back to reapply the smoke chamber lining. A year later, per the warranty requirement, Wells & Son returned to do an annual inspection, their report states "no defects". Since the warranty requires an annual inspection and we weren't feeling confident in Wells at this point we contacted another chimney company for the annual inspection. The new company discovered a 3'x2.5' section of the smoke chamber was completely uncoated and numerous holes that were still leaking CO into the our home, they immediately turned off gas to the fireplace. We contacted Wells & Son at this point and their General Manager agreed to come out and do his own inspection. Wells & Son's GM confirmed the third-party's findings were accurate, stating that "this was a big miss" and agreed that it was never applied to the uncoated area, not that it had "fell off". The GM offered to fix the uncoated areas again, but after two failed attempts at repair already and an inaccurate and dangerous inspection report the previous year how could we possibly trust them with our lives again? Instead we asked for a full refund so we can have the chimney fixed correctly and safely. We were instead offered an insultingly low amount that isn't even a drop in the bucket for a proper repair of the mess they created. We have been told the owner will contact us to discuss these issues. Still waiting...

Andrew and Steve are master craftsman with a keen eye to minute details. I contacted them to…read moreconstruct an interior PA blue stone pad for my new wood stove and also to install stone veneer on two of the walls. Andrew and Steve are not just stone masons and have excellent skills in both interior and exterior construction that comes in handy when the unforeseen glitch pops up. For example they were able to reinforce the floor to support the very heavy weight of the pad and stove. While working in the basement on the floor reinforcement, Andrew noticed that there was a bump in the basement concrete floor that I lamented had been tripping me every time I did the laundry. Without hesitation, he went to his truck for some tools and remedied that rather large bump at no additional charge. Steve is an artisan, and created a real show piece backdrop to the Vermont castings red stove. The pattern and color variation he put forth is truly amazing and far exceeded my expectations. There was one stone that I felt was a little off in color, and they had no pushback, and were completely open to replacing it albeit while the stone had not fully set, but it was obvious their goal was 100% customer satisfaction. The cuts for outlets, windows, and ceilings were flawless and the mortar joints between stones was applied perfectly. I learned that Andrew is a 2nd generation mason, and he and Steve had been training under his dad since they were kids. I had to travel out of town, and had no worries leaving them the keys to finish the job. They are great communicators and completely trust-worthy. When icy cold rain was forecast Andrew called the night before to alert me of the threatening weather and left it that he would revisit the workday in the morning. He called bright and early to "ASK" if we could postpone a day as he would be cutting the stone and mixing mortar outside. I of course agreed. They also coordinated with the stove installers to help wrangle the very heavy stove pad onto the frame they had built. Andrew and Steve are team players and also a great team, with complimentary skills and eyes that truly ensures a beautiful job. They cleaned up every day and left the job, spotless with no debris. They have my highest recommendation and can handle any masonry job at hand. 6 Stars out of 5!!!!!

Antrim's came recommended from a local fireplace store as a resource for cleaning, assessment and…read morerepairs. I have an old stone farmhouse with 2 fireplaces, a wood stove and an oil furnace flue. The tech that cam to do the inspection and cleaning was efficient, informative, professional and explained in detail what he was doing and why at each step. I truly appreciate when a contractor does that. I got estimates for restoration of the two fireplaces and oil boiler flue (which are unlined and unusable) and repair of the wood stove (which was back-drafting and had not been installed to code). I arranged to have Antrim's do the replacement/repair of the wood stove pipe, chimney and roof penetration materials after having a few discussions with Nate, the owner, on strategies and approach. The work was done by Nate and the tech that did the cleaning and inspection. I DO NOT LIKE HIRING CONTRACTORS.. I typically have to repair work done by "professionals" after they leave. In this case, the Wood stove work was, again, done efficiently and professionally and Nate kept me well informed on the details throughout the process, as requested. I appreciated the collaboration and felt I was informed enough to understand what was going on, while letting them get on with their good work. The result was a satisfied customer (me), a professional job done correctly and as agreed on budget. We can't wait for the weather to cool off enough to use our wood stove again and reap the benefits of Antrim's good work!
