A tesco value Miller and Carter, but hugely over priced I…read morethought we would give the Firepit a second try, after trying it on Fathers day and being pretty disappointed From first setting foot in this restaurant, we were aquatinted with a barrage of flies. As we sat down, we made our choices, and was expecting to be served, so we could order drinks/starters. But even though there were less than 3 tables in service, I had to go and find a server so I could order our drinks and meals. This could be forgiven if it were busy, but it was not, and there were plenty of staff just gazing into the void. When I managed to collar someone to make the order, we had to wait an extended length of time, for the over priced, poorly cooked food. When the mains arrived, probably 40 mins after ordering, both the burger, and the steak were EXTREMELY salty, and zero flavour depth. It was so salty, my mouth is still dry and burning as I write this review. You would normally expect, to be asked how the food is, during your meal. And genuinely wanting feedback, to add to value added work, to keep the business continually improving. But in the Firepit, it seems, nobody cares how your food is. We spent the whole meal, batting away flies, and choking on enough salt, to put us in perpetual hypertensive crisis. I mentioned to 2 staff members, how terrible the experience was, but nothing was mentioned to management, and to be quite honest, they didn't seem like they cared. In the restaurant business, you have to be monitoring customer experience closely, as you're only as good as your last weeks customers, so if this isn't actioned upon, I can see this space up for rent, very soon. At the Fire Pit, you pay city premiums, for terrible service/food/experience. This really is a pretentious venue, with zero quality control, or customer service. Experience is everything, and I can say wholeheartedly, they have missed the mark. Make sure you get the steak on a stone the first time. The sharer stone is great for couples. All the staff are great and the bar upstairs is really relaxed. Even the starters are great and the puddings make for a great way to end the night. Fairly expensive so go for a special occasion but you will not be disappointed. With the steak, the teriyaki dip is divine - definitely a must. Make sure you book a table and go hungry!

First of all it's one of the favourite hangouts of very tasteful people... those being some of my best friends in Lancaster. Secondly, it's bloody gorgeous. You want a cosy, rustic, boutiquey pub in what I've come to call 'The Edinburgh of the North West'? Walk right this way. Want to see how pretty it is? You only have to check this cinemagram from my fiancé: http://cinemagr.am/show/4336818 Look at that. What a backdrop it provides. Gnarled branches with fairylights = one of my favourite things ever. Big wooden tables, locally roasted coffee (a coffee my maid of honour recommends wholeheartedly, and it has its own shop around the corner. I do believe it's called Atkinsons. http://www.thecoffeehopper.com After our epic roasts we needed a pick-me-up, and I opted for black while she had a fab-looking latte. We also got biscuits as standard. (That should be a rule, everywhere. No exceptions. If Font Bar can give out entire Freddos with every brew, all establishments should at least be able to manage a Lotus biscuit.) The food looks amazeballs here, perhaps a little pricey for a casual lunch but great for a treat, and potentially truly delicious. The atmopshere's lovely, the staff friendly, and we've had wine here too which has always been tasty, offered in some of the prettiest wine glasses I ever did see. And fruit beer on tap? I can see why this could easily become a Lancastrian's local.

We were visiting overnight and just wanted a comfy place to stay - the rooms looked really nice on the website, so we booked here for the bargain price of £85 overnight for their most flash room (executive with bath). After a bit of a challenge finding where to park the car (the car park is diagonally opposite the hotel on the other corner of the street), we checked in which was easy and hassle free. We booked a table for dinner as we didn't really know of other options in Barrow and went to check out our room. There's a very slow elevator, or you can take the stairs. The hotel is spread over three floors and while you might initially think it seems a little cosy and close to the road, I didn't have any trouble sleeping and found it pretty quiet actually. Our room was pretty large, with an entrance foyer with open wardrobe, large bathroom with freestanding bath and a large bedroom area with couches. Everything was clean, fresh and well-presented and the bed was really comfy (although the pillows were a little hard). I wasn't expecting much for dinner, I'll be honest. But we were really impressed with the food - it was better than standard pub grub. We ate in the dining room, I believe you can also eat in the vaults downstairs while watching the football if you're so inclined. We shared smoked salmon with blue cheese fritters for a starter. This was a little weird, I'll be honest. I actually don't know what the fritters were made of, it was a bit like a blue cheese pancake. The salmon was delicious. Even though I found it weird, I still loved it so that's a bonus I guess! For main I had the 8oz prime sirloin steak, served with onion rings, chunky chips and a grilled tomato and mushroom, and I added mushroom sauce to it. This steak was really good, perfectly cooked and really well seasoned. I couldn't fault it. I struggled to finish all of this as there was a generous portion of the sides but I really enjoyed it all. We decided not to have dessert as I was well and truly stuffed. Service throughout the meal was good and while we were in a separate room tucked away from the bar, there was always someone on hand for more drinks if needed. Breakfast the next morning was pretty standard and they dealt with my request to change a few things really well, giving me extra hash browns instead of beans and black pudding. Overall, this place was a really comfortable and welcoming place to stay. The staff didn't seem to mind when we sat in the bar for an hour & half after check out, waiting for our friends to arrive from Glasgow so we could head to the stadium for roller derby! If you're heading to Barrow and need somewhere to stay, I'd highly recommend it here.
