I had seen an ad for this place and was curious to try it out when visiting Berlin and Checkpoint Charlie. After paying 10 € each for me and the wifey I felt pretty certain that this wouldn't be value for the money, but actually at least for us two, it was totally worth the money. It's very simple, an outer room with photos (maybe some film clips) and an outer room with the actual panorama. As you enter the hemicircular panorama space it's weird, because you see the panorama but it looks strange and out of perspective.
Not until you take the stairs up to the platform does it make sense, and then the experience changes totally. Suddenly the perspective is right and you feel immersed in the weird landscape that was West Berlin next to the wall, where you can look over the wall and see both sides at the same time. There are many fascinating details, some of them authentic, some of them perhaps not. There are sound effects from various directions, and a soundtrack with famous, short speeches and soundbites relating to the wall.
I think this is a time-limited exhibition, and I recommend it to anyone visiting Checkpoint Charlie, hoping you find it as fascinating as we did; it was one of the highlights of our trip. read more
