Having lived in Taiwan and Hong Kong for seven years, I am very picky about my Chinese food. Coast to coast, I've not had better Chinese food outside of Asia, than this place. Fabulous and fresh flavors!! We had the mango chicken which was to die for. The House Wonton soup is unbelievable. Made with homemade chicken stock, just as it should be. Get two orders and take one home. The service is friendly and helpful. Maggie does a great job and Howard is friendly and has lots of personality. And don't forget the appetizers. The new deep fried egg plant is worth every calorie. And the fresh spring rolls - fabulous. I've yet to find one that satisfies, but this did the trick. read more

I came here with my gf when I saw good reviews on yelp. I ordered seafood combination and fried dumplings. When they brought the food to us, I was surprised by the food amount. The fried dumplings only had four pieces, and the main dish, seafood combination was the smallest amount I have ever tried in all Chinese restaurants. I have visited so many Chinese restaurants across the nation, but never had this incident happened that I paid almost 30 bucks for this two items which was far less than enough to make me full and satisfaction. The taste of them were just ok nothing better than other ordinary place. I can pay 30 at another good one where they can give me far more quantity with better quality. We went here for lunch today, based on the reviews. I will definitely never come back. My mom's soup was lukewarm, she sent it back. The lettuce wraps were so salty. We ordered a pork & a chicken dish and it looked like the same dish. I ordered a curry, which was fine but not great. I am not sure why there are so many good reviews for this place! This is more like 4 1/2 stars. Family of six went there for a dinner - our first time here. We were greeted right away and seated. We ordered several dishes. No appetizer. Waited for a while and dishes started to come out. The presentation were really nice, not like other restaurants who do no put any thought about presentation. The taste was also exceptional. Some are as good and some are better that our go to Chinese restaurants. The owner gave us a complimentary dish, which I thought was very classy and thoughtful. Wife loved it. I had to take out half star because of the price/ portion. You can find few Chinese restaurants with comparable taste but cheaper of has bigger portion. That's my only beef with this place. He is super friendly and remembers all of his customers, greeting everyone as they come in. The food is just absolutely delicious. I've always eaten in since the service is just so good, and quick. As recommended by the owner, you should try every dish on the menu. So far, 3 down, many more to go. I can't go out and say dish XXX is amazing because I have not focused on that dish. All I can say is that every dish I have received has been excellent. The best and healthiest Chinese food in DMV area. I'm from Taiwan and often feel disappointed about Chinese food here. Either too greasy or too much MSG. Food here at Asian Grill is healthy and tasty! The staff is very attentive! The owner is extremely funny and knowledgeable about healthy food. I love this place because this is the only Chinese restaurant I know that does NOT use MSG. The food is not greasy either. Easy enough to describe our experience in 1 word, Amazing! We started with the flaming volcano (for 2) and chicken wings, the drink was very tasty and definitely a good balance of alcohol i had the shrimp delight, the wife ordered the chicken pad thai noodles both were incredible! Our sons had the sweet and sour chicken and they enjoyed it very much. To top off the experience the fortune cookies were covered in brown sugar like a church, sooo tasty! The service was the best we have had in the DC area, very attentive and courteous! The food here is ALWAYS on point. I get to-go here somewhat frequently and they have NEVER made a mistake on my order (I have terrible luck with take out). The food is always tasty, the portions are large, and the staff is overly friendly. This is the only place to get Chinese food. My go-to is the Vegetable Chow Mein. SO good. My wife ordered the pad tai and she liked it. She said it has great flavor and was not too spicy like other restaurants do. I ordered the crispy beef and it was awesome. It had been a year since I'd last been, but tonight we enjoyed another great meal and delightful experience. It's like going home to a great family meal when you go see Darrin and his family and the great waitstaff. They all work very hard to ensure you have a memorable experience and a delicious meal. I only wish it was closer to my house. When you go with a group just let Darrin know the price range you have and ask for him to select your courses. He'll ask you about any allergies or preference, and then proceed to bring out a smorgasbord of exotic dishes. Last night the five of us were treated to: Appetizers - Crab Spring Rolls (hot, crispy, tasty - served with a great tartar sauce) - Fried Oyster - Perfectly seasoned Lamb Chop - Calamari - Salmon Roll (salmon was expertly seasoned and cooked) Main Courses - Szechuan Green Beans with just the right amount of heat - Emperor's (Jumbo) Shrimp with Broccoli - (Mouthwateringly tangy) Mango Chicken (white meat) - Crispy Beef Dessert - Crispy Apple Dumpling We brought my granddaughter who had just turned one and Darrin served her rice, teriyaki chicken, and green beans. Service is easily 5 stars. Our server was very attentive, and the owner spoke with us on our way out. They couldn't have been nicer. They were so nice, I hate to critique the food, but I got the impression they might appreciate the feedback. I started with hot and sour soup. I enjoyed it. Not amazing but very solid. But then came the chicken wings. I'm not sure if the cook was having an off day but they were just awful. Overly breaded and the breading was completely burnt. I love chicken wings, and despite being a chicken wing snob, they have to be really bad for me to not be able to eat them. I finished one with great difficulty and had to leave the rest. I felt terrible, because I think our server could tell I didn't like them but I didn't have the heart to tell her how bad they were. It's one of those places where you just don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Next I had the Thai basil Lo Mein. The menu didn't say it came with shrimp, but it did. I'm allergic. Once again, service was fantastic and I was quickly given a new order. It was just OK. They did give us a free dessert which I enjoyed. Again, upon entry--excitied--their welcome and attitude made us feel right at home. Hot and sour and egg drop soups were a little below average. All three dinner dishes were just plain bad....garlic tofu, black pepper chicken, and szechuan chicken. The chicken meat itself would have been good. The sauces are downright terrible. Id bet they are pre-made restaurant supply grade. Szechaun dish was bright red with more of an indian or non-discript taste. The black pepper sauce was more of a red tomato vinager sauce and the garlic tofu was extrememly bland. We sampled each others dishes and had similar conclusions....terrible. My mother said was the worse chinese she had ever had. My wife and I love Asian cuisine--we love trying new places. While this was not the worse we've had, it was toward the very bottom of the list. Not a bad place for Springfield. Went on a Friday night and friendly staff, with prompt service. We started off with the Hot and Sour soup and that was good. Slightly warm, but next time I would ask them to make it hotter. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and (for me) the sauce should not be sweet at all. So I wonder why decided to do that? I'm actually so sad about this one, as when I lived in VA it was my favorite chinese place to go. I remember their fantastic steamed dumplings, and it had to be reasonable since we were all poor back then we couldn't afford expensive places. So I went back last week with my mom, and noticed they had renovated (which does look nice). It was lunch, and in looking at the lunch menu I was pretty surprised at the prices (9-11 bucks for a lunch entree). But I ordered my diet coke, and they asked my Mom if she wanted tea so she said yes. Well, out they bring the Diet coke in a can with a glass of ice. Hmmm, so my bad feeling was right. No free refills and they charge me 2 bucks for a can of soda. Then come to find out they charged us $2 for the tea as well. I've never heard of a chinese restaurant charging for the tea they serve! We ordered the lettuce wraps ($8.50). I usually love the chicken lettuce wraps, but I honestly didn't see that there was any chicken in there at all and it wasn't good. But the worse part is, they gave you two pieces of lettuce with the filling in them. No decent size plate with the half a head of lettuce like most places. So on the on to the entree's. The food itself wasn't bad, although my combination had 2 shrimp and more onions & peppers than meat. The taste wasn't bad, although they definately didn't give you much food (hey, at least I didn't overeat!) Of course later that day I did get a little sick, and although I can't prove it was from the food I'm definately not willing to give it another shot. Just had lunch take out and was greeted warmly by the owner, who remembered my name just from ordering once. I had general Taos, combo fried rice, wonton soup, and two egg rolls. Everything was above par, particularly the egg rolls. Stuffed with meat and tasty cabbage. No slimy greasy carrot filled mess like most other are places. Fried rice had 10 shrimp and lots of meat. General Taos was great but there was still 25% of pieces with 90% filler and one dried out sliver of chicken. This is why 4 stars. Wonton was good and the proper thick noodles were used, not yesterdays dumplings. Would go again. I fed myself and 4 tweeners on $28. Solid Value. read more

I am reviewing the takeout. Ever since the pandemic the food has been absolutely terrible. I believe they have lost their passion for running a business, but knows it still makes them good money. I have had a hair in my chicken a couple times. Two times in a row I ordered Sesame Chicken and it looked like they literally did one shake of sesame that managed to hit a couple of the 12 -15 chunks of Chicken. You can give them instructions on the phone to make sure they put enough sesame on the chicken and you have a slight chance they will pass it along to the cook. I just gave up asking and bought my own sesame seeds for home. The dangerous part of they way they run things is the chicken is undercooked around 80% of the time. Super pink core/mushy and the breading is mush. In the early stages of getting bad orders I always wondered why I felt nausea within 20 minutes of eating. Well it slowly became clear. I would almost bet cross contamination. I am not sure what they pay their cook if they even have one, but they don't know what they are doing or so many orders are coming in for take out that they are forced to cook the food 3 or 4 times quicker than needed is probably more like it. I would recommend the place in Hayfield. They chicken quality there is top notch almost like small tenders. Pure white chicken. Perfect crispy skin/breading. It's like comparing a Ford Pinto to a Ford GT 250. As others have said when eating in, which I haven't done since around 2020, Darin is very nice and greets constantly when he is there. But honestly, the older people fall for that kind marketing/customer service. I guess they are reminded of the old school customer service of yester year. My husband and I just visited this restaurant on 8/4/2010 based solely on the reviews here (and my desire to not cook that night!). Sorry to rain on the parade of 4's and 5's here, but perhaps the other reviewers have not been to very many Chinese food restaurants in the area; Asian Grill is OK, but certainly far from "the best in NoVA." The service here was extremely prompt and friendly. We were greeted hello and wished farewell. The owner came out at one point and greeted every table BUT ours (I assume because he knew everyone else in the restaurant, as it seemed every other guest present gave him hugs or asked after his family; the same went for the waitresses & customers). It left us feeling a bit like we were not in the cool kids club. Also, at the end of our meal, we sat waiting for someone to clear plates and pack up the portions we couldn't eat for at least 5+ minutes - which was strange because we were interrupted every few minutes the entirety of our visit there with questions of "Is everything okay?" and pouring more water to fill our drinks, etc etc. (which is fine; that's part of the prompt service, it was just strange to have it drop off for so long at the end of our meal). But I am jumping ahead - the main thing I wanted to mention here is the actual food. I had the wonton soup to start and it was very good - the wontons were filled with a delicious meat mixture, and I was expecting quality food based on the reviews here, so we were off to a good start. We also tried the pu-pu platter (I think another reviewer mentioned this) and it too was very good. The chicken wings in particular were amazing. When we got to our main course, however, we were not impressed with the taste. The dishes certainly looked good. I got Sha-Cha chicken, and my husband had Kung Pao chicken and Pork Lo Mein. My dish was not what I had been expecting (me comparing it with other Sha-Cha chicken dishes I have had); the flavor was not the spicy deliciousness that I love - just a weird sauce that I couldn't quite place the flavor on. My husband reported the Kung Pao was barely spicy but okay, and the lo mein noodles were over-cooked and rubbery, and he mentioned MSG-taste (I am not sure of his claims on that - but there you go). We ended up boxing up 1/2 of every dish to take home (the portions were very reasonable for the price), however, we discovered once we got home that they did not pack ANY white rice to go with them! I have NEVER been to a Chinese restaurant that did not at least pack up the leftover rice from the table - if not a whole new container! When we got our bill we also received fortune cookies and 2 little wonton wrappers that had been slightly filled with some apple pie filling and sprinkled w/cinnamon and sugar and baked. A cute farewell that is apparently the standard at this place, based on the other reviews. I would be willing to give this place another try, but Dave & Chung's is still THE BEST Chinese food in the area. read more

This is great Chinese food. Quite simply the best Kung Pao chicken aside from China Garden in Frederick, MD. It might even be better than China Garden's. They don't have a kids menu, but we just order chicken skewers with a side of rice, and the kids love it. My wife likes the curry dish. I can't think of anything that I've disliked here. read more

Was able to pay over the phone and have a relative pick it up on their way over. They were extremely friendly, tossed in some extras and the food was great! I'm really impressed with them. Overall the food was good. Service, a bit slow. I was first seated after opening for lunch. I ordered the house wonton soup, hunan triple delight and an egg roll. The hunan triple delight was really good, soup was simple broth with vegetables and wonton, nothing really special about the soup and the egg roll was over fried and really could've done without. When I ordered I mentioned that the majority of everything would be going home. He brought out the soup first and I had my computer with me so I was working on a few items and am waiting on the rest of lunch, he thens brings out the egg roll and I continue to work, he brought me more water and finally after sitting there 20 mins, I ask can I have my entree now please, I almost just had him put it in a container to go because the service was so slow. The food was awful. Kung Pao chicken with onions had a weird orange sauce and no onions. The egg drop soup was lukewarm (as was the water) and had more salt than the ocean.
