I've played this course a number of times, and my experiences have typically been very positive. The staff has always been friendly and accommodating -- until this most recent visit. I booked a 7:30 a.m. tee time through GolfNow. Upon arrival, I was informed by a staff member, Tanner Jacobs, that the time I booked was "invalid." I was then charged approximately 40% more than the confirmed price I reserved online. In addition to the unexpected price increase, the interaction itself was disappointing. The communication was short, abrupt, and dismissive, which made the situation even more frustrating. Ashton Hills look good and must to play. From Parking lot to the course is great location. Great challenge and difficult course. Nice and smooth green. Bunkers are kind of heavy and deep. #3 hole par 3 is picturesque. I would call it "Flower" hole. #12 and #13 are dual green on opposite way make golfers look over to see if ball on green. Clubhouse have great view to look over driving range and putting green also the grill cook good foods. Beverage carts passed us 5 times even it is on Wednesday. Carts have GPS. Nice. Prices is about right a little pricey on weekend. Nice homesites. Definitely will play again for just fun. read more

Ashton Hills Golf Club - "Flower" hole - par 3 - Golf Near Me - Covington, Georgia

Ashton Hills Golf Club rates about 3.5 stars to me. Just coming up with some categories, off the top of my head, to rate this course: Layout and design: 4 stars Conditions: 3.5 stars Clubhouse and amenities: 2.5 stars Golf carts: 4 stars Service: 4 stars Pace of play: 5 stars (we were just about the only ones on the course) Pest control: 1 star I really like the layout. There are beautiful, scenic holes. However, there were too many clouds of gnats flying all over the course, particularly on the tee boxes and greens. I've played on a lot of courses over the years and I've never seen or experienced anything quite like this. It was a shame because it affected my enjoyment of what is a nicely designed track. I'm not sure if we just happened to play on a day the bugs were particularly bad or if this course has pest management issues. Whatever the case, it was not good. Bring bug spray. Ashton Hills originally opened in 1997 as Indian Creek Golf Club. It was designed by Desmond Muirhead who has designed numerous courses around the country. To my knowledge, he's designed two in Georgia: Ashton Hills and BridgeMill Athletic Club in Canton. I've played at BridgeMill and it's easily the superior club, all factors combined. The par-3 3rd hole at Ashton Hills is very similar to the par-3 16th hole at BridgeMill. Both feature large greens that are completely surrounded by bunkers. At Ashton Hills, the green is surrounded by 8 (yes, 8) separate large bunkers. At BridgeMill, the green is surrounded by less, but bigger, bunkers. The wide wraparound bunker that protects the side and back of the 8th green is another recognizable Muirhead design element. From the tips (black tees), the course measures 6,870 yards with a rating/slope of 72.9/144. There are 5 sets of tees (black, blue, white, gold, green) and 2 sets which are combinations (black/blue, white/gold). This is an 18-hole, par-72 course with the standard 2 par-3s, 5 par-4s, and 2 par-5s per 9 holes. This course is above average in difficulty, but it's not too difficult. I think it's playable for golfers of all skill levels provided they play from the appropriate tees. I played this course from the white tees where it measures 5,966 yards with a rating/slope of 68.4/129. The greens have 3 pin positions: front, middle, and back. The scorecard lists green depths. If you haven't played this course before, I recommend getting a yardage book from the golf shop or bringing a rangefinder with you (or playing with someone who has one). This course has no yardage sticks or yardage markers (at least, not when we played) except for at the tees. The course layout is printed on the back of the scorecard and each hole marker has a hole layout with yardages from the black to gold tees. Overall, the course has a fine layout. Several holes have wide and accepting fairways while others require you to be fairly accurate with your driver or 3-wood. There are rolling hills with moderate elevation changes and only a couple potentially blind shots. The greens are huge and among the biggest I've seen in the Atlanta area. They definitely have their fair share of curves and mounds. Your long-range putting skills will definitely be put to the test. There's a long double green next to a pond shared by holes 12 (a relatively straight, slightly downhill, par-4) and 13 (par-3 over water). Along with the aforementioned 3rd hole, the 6th hole is another one of Ashton Hill's signature holes. This one is a scenic par-3 over an idyllic lake, surrounded by trees. Next to the green is an old shack, crudely made with mud, stone, and wood, preserved and now part of the aesthetic of the course. In general, the conditions when we played were good. They weren't immaculate, but they weren't bad either. The tee boxes, fairways, bunkers, and greens were all in decent shape. I didn't notice a part of the course that seemed damaged or neglected. The best part was probably the greens. All 18 greens were in great shape with no issues. Our balls rolled true. The driving range, practice putting green, and practice bunker were all in good condition as well. The driving range is a combination of grass and mats. The clubhouse is small and basic. There's a bag drop. Golf carts are electric E-Z-GO brand carts. The carts rode well and were in good condition. There's a men's locker room, but it's small. There's one shower. There are two sinks and they have toiletries like deodorant, shaving cream, and mouthwash. The golf shop has free coffee. There's a restaurant and grill called The Village Grille. It's got a bar, TV, and a dining room with plenty of seating (tables and booths). There was a food and beverage cart on the course. I booked our Saturday morning round through TeeOff.com for $45.56 per golfer after taxes. The regular rate would've been $52.43 after taxes. Whether paying the regular rate or the discounted rate, I thought the prices were fair given the nice layout and good conditions of the course. read more

Wow. The superintendent does a good job to keep this course beautiful. The conditions , on the cart part, tee box, fairway and greens are superb. I played 18 on April 26,2015 and the course was in a fantastic shape. I pulled into the parking lot around 730am and was quickly met by one of their hosts. He helped me load bag into cart and whisked me off to check in. Parked the cart , while I went inside. Check in was quick , and grabbed a $3 bag of maybe 18 balls to hit on the range. Came out and there was my cart, .. all ready to go. Went over to the range to hit a few and the friendly marshall came by to herd the cats for the next round. I love it when a place has their stuff working like clock work. The first hole gave indication that conditions were good. It only gets better from here. The fairways are just awesome. And this was after major rain the day before. I would have thought it would be muddy and all, but they did such a good job on managing the drainage. As the day went by, the course dried out and it played better and better. The greens are beautiful, roll fast and very little ball marks. Firm but will hold a ball. Just a joy to see such well maintained course. The bunkers tho have firm packed sand. The marshall was friendly and firm. He came by plenty of times to ask if things are ok. Towards the end, he did ask us politely to speed up a little. All in all, we finished in 4 hours. The course was NOT packed with players. There is a good tee time management on this Sunday. This is a fantastic course. Its a little ways down south, but its worth the drive. You cannot find a course up north that is not chopped up and packed with players. Only wished I lived closer to this place. Will definitely be back. The course is medium level. Not easy for sure, but plenty of flat lies and very fair. Course is in great shape but management isn't quite as put together. Tee'd off at 10am and was told to go off #10. Played the back in exactly 2 hours, turned to #1 and had 3 groups on #1. Pro shop had no answers. Said they'd send a Marshall out but he must've been on foot bc we never saw him. Again course is in good shape but the team in the shop needs some help. read more

Love this track. I'll play anytime I'm invited by members. Get your birdie or two on front nine and strap in for back nine. Hills are work and make it longer than you imagine. Well taken care of and greens that are major caliber. Worth every dime. Very good challenge. read more

Ashton Hills is a relatively inexpensive but quality golf course located in Covington. It's worth the drive from Atlanta to play at least once and maybe several times if you're local. - Nice clubhouse and grounds. - Adequate but not large driving range located next to the clubhouse. Range balls are merely decent. - The practice putting green is in great shape and actually mimics the greens on the course fairly well (i.e., smooth and fast). There's a practice bunker, too. - Greens on the course are in excellent shape and roll true, mostly. You'll encounter plenty of slopes to test your green-reading skill. - Fairways are also in good shape. If you hit the fairway with your tee shot, you'll almost always get a fair lie. I did not see many spots with worn grass that produces tight lies. - Bunkers are very good with playable sand. Not hard-packed like a lot of courses. - Course layout is OK, but not the most interesting design. They do have a few scenic holes and one par three with the green entirely surrounded by bunkers. - Carts are electric. No GPS. - Cart paths are in bad shape - you have to watch for very uneven concrete that can send your clubs flying out of your bag if you drive too fast. I find this to be not uncommon even on good courses. I guess the trees play havoc with the concrete paths. - Beverage cart service showed up several times during a hot day. - No starter and I didn't see much evidence of a marshall on the course. - The pace of play was not a problem even with a fine weather day on a Saturday. In fact, the pro-shop guy said they were light and offered us an additional 9 holes for the price of a cart fee. Overall, I really enjoyed my round. It's not expensive, so a good value. read more

I'm giving this course a 50/50. The course was amazing. Great layout and the holes were relatively challenging. The only thing that upset me was the man on the golf cart with the trash can on the back that came up to us. He complained to us that we were 1 MINUTE late to tee off. Seems pretty ridiculous to complain about one singular minute. We weren't members, so I guess we don't get the lenience treatment for one minute. The 4-Man behind us did not show any issues of impatience, so I'm not sure what this guys problem was. A lot of reviews talk about how poor the staff is and I'll have to agree with them on that. We played this semi-private as part of our Masters trip. It had a very nice layout with challenging greens. Not tricked up and had a nice mix of fair and challenging holes. The drawback was maintenance was lacking in several areas. In particular the traps were among the worst I've ever seen. Most had very little sand and several had the liner under the traps exposed. Could be a real gem if they had more maint $ or a better grounds management. Ok at about $50 but not the $74 we paid. read more

The course was nice and we were enjoying our day until the 14th hole when the overzealous marshall (Richard) approached our group and accused us of "tearing up the greens". Claimed he received a complaint from "members" and he deduced it was our group doing the damage. What damage??....I don't know. "You guys are tearing up the greens" was his claim. Richard then proceeded to follow us for the next 3 holes, hiding away in the rough, checking the greens after we played. Being black in America, this unnecessary treatment isn't unfamiliar, but it's always uncomfortable nonetheless. We asked Richard why he assumed it was our group; he couldn't provide a legitimate answer. Richard's attitude during this intrusion was disgusting and matter of fact. Issuing no proof or apology, other than a "I have a right to do this" when we confronted him again as to why we're being followed. He took off for the club house at the 17th hole. I assume he retreated to get his story straight knowing we were close to finishing and undoubtedly will be in to alert management. We returned to the clubhouse to speak to management, but the employees claimed "no managers are available"...how convenient. Richard ruined what otherwise was an enjoyable course to play. Maybe this treatment is typical towards "non-members"; I don't know. We still intend to speak with management/ownership to make sure this type of treatment doesn't go unnoticed and at the very least never repeated. I've played golf for years and never experienced anything like this, and hope it never occurs again. Fortunately Georgia has many beautiful golf courses to choose from. This was my first and last time ever playing at Aston Hills. read more

The prior reviews do a good job of describing Ashton Hills (formerly Indian Creek). It is a nicely conditioned course with a decent, but not memorable, layout. What I have found is the marshalls/rangers are overly-protective of the members. I have a device (a stick) that I use to lean clubs on so the grips don't get wet on dewy mornings. The ranger asked me not to use it on the greens "because I don't want to hear it from the members." He didn't say it was because it might tip over causing damage to the green nor did he remind us to fill our divots with sand, keep the carts away from the greens, etc., - things that should really matter more than a hole in the green smaller than the one made by "closest to the pin" markers. It left a sour taste in my mouth and reminded me that something similar happened the last time I played there. I'll consider this when another round at Ashton Hills is suggested in our group. read more

Worst Golf Experience of my Life ---- Decent golf course with HORRIBLE SERVICE The day started in the pro shop. A gentleman ahead of us in line told a staffer behind the desk "I am going to join up with that SEVENSOME". My friend and I didn't think much of it, paid our green fee and started playing. While playing as a twosome, we got stuck behind this SEVENSOME on the back nine. When the SEVENSOME saw us, they split up into two groups, but still would not let us play though. I called the pro shop and was told the marshal would be "right out to take care of the situation". While the marshal claimed he came out, we never saw him. We ended up waiting at least 10 minutes before every shot. It took 2 1/2 hours to play the last seven holes. The operators of Indian Creek had no control of the course flow and it was the worst golfing experience I've had in 20 years. ICING ON THE CAKE - After that nightmare of a round I explained what happened and expressed my concern to the general manager/head professional of Indian Creek along with the marshal (who was not seen during the entire round). The marshal and GM denied there was a sevensome playing (a flat out lie) and I was told we had no right to play through any group because we played as a twosome. After leaving the pro shop, I was approached by a man who claimed to be a member who said the staff commonly allows groups of 5+ and most non-membership clientele has little understanding of golf etiquette. LESSON LEARNED - If you have a two or threesome, DON'T PLAY INDIAN CREEK. The staff does not care about the flow of play and allows golfers with no etiquette to run the golf course. Course layout - 5 Very interesting, very challenging; most intriguing I've played in metro Atlanta, by far. Course condition - 4-5 Depends on when you play, but typically, it's very well-maintained. Kitchen/food - 4.5 Well above the norm for other courses/clubs in the area. Good enough that I've eaten here without playing many times. Indian Creek was purchased about a year ago and renamed Ashton Hills. The new owners have done a wonderful job improving the condition and ease of play of the golf course. The greens are now "Mini -Verde" a Bermuda hybrid. They roll true and are fast, fast, fast. The fairways have been widened, the rough has been lowered, the traps well maintained, and hundreds of trees have been removed. If this course was located on the north side it would be priced close to $100 a round. So if you enjoy a challenge to your golf, want to spend your time in a beautiful setting come and play the best kept secret on the east side. read more

As a visiting golfer, I think this is a great opportunity in the Atlanta area. Not only is the course superb, the fees are very reasonable and every aspect of the service is first class. I've played the course on several occasions. Always in great shape. Played yesterday morning with a group. Course was relatively slow for a Saturday. Had an apparently new Marshall that felt it necessary to follow my foursome from hole 12 in. There was no group ahead or behind us. Felt more harassed than anything.
