This place will nickel and dime you. When I first moved in, my apartment smelled of cigarette smoke. When I told the person at the leasing office, they insisted they did the walk through themself and asked me to show them. Which I did...and I was given a ventilator and had to wait a few days for my things to able to be moved in. I had to re-clean the apartment from their supposed walkthrough: grime and grease all leftover in the fridge, rusted disposal, stains on the carpet from bleach, and pubic hair in the bathroom sink are all apparently okay things to leave in the apartment for a new tenant. However, I cleaned what I could, and after a few days the ventilator had cleaned out the smoke smell. It did not end there. Maintenance is worthless. When I told them that my dishwasher was installed incorrectly so that it leaks, they said I was right, but that they don't have time to fix it, so just put a towel down instead. They refused to replace the aforementioned rusted disposal, and said that cleaning it regularly was all I could do. I pay for a gated community, but for months, the gate was wide open. They even started to experience car break-ins at this time. They changed the locks to smart locks, that was then an additional fee onto my rent. I could not opt out of the trash service, despite living right next to the compactor, so that was an additional fee on my rent. They tell you it's a special deal to upgrade apartments, but they only revoke the application fee. There is a monthly pet fee on top of the additional pet deposit, which all of these are an additional $25 onto your rent. If they are trying to get me to move out to renovate the old apartment, they're doing quite a good job. I am finally moving out (after they tried to tack on a late notice for my move out date of $1,660). Now, I have been charged a late fee for my rent, even though I have automatic payments installed. I disputed, as the payments are done through the portal, and it looks like a glitch occurred, removing my automatic payments. After explaining this, and using this process for the whole three years that I've rented here, they insist that I am still to pay this $125 late fee that is not my fault. For some positives, the neighbors are splendid, and the views are nice. It is in a very convenient location to Belltower shops, grocery stores, gas stations, and is still out of the way of general traffic. All in all, do some extra research before settling here. Rent alone is exorbitantly high, but you can add on even more with just general fees. read more

overpriced for what it is!!! maintenance leaves much to be desired!! changed the garbage disposal when I ran the dishwasher it flooded the kitchen, dining and living room. I specifically asked not to have this jackass in my home again but they sent him anyway!!! He was very rude and no apology for the mess he made I can go on and on but I've put that place behind me. Convenient and hassle-free -- Great location, close to major retailers, supermarket and Interstate access. Responsive, clean and pretty -- Ashlar has been a low stress experience. The staff are super friendly and always respond timely. Arelis was absolutely amazing at her customer service. She was so professional yet made us feel like family from the point of contact. Arelis kept us up to date on the application process. She expedited us moving in quickly to meet our needs all The Ashlar grounds and buildings are super clean. I'd highly recommend. Maintenance requests are addressed in a timely manner. I love the Valet garbage collection service - I no longer have to take my trash out to the dumpster, this is very convenient. In addition to the above: the pool, gym, tennis, clubhouse, dog parks (one for littles - one for bigs), did I also mention the lake size water fountain plus bbq area make this property the one that TOPS ALL THE REST! My son and I love living here! It's safe and beautiful! It's a gated community with speed bumps so I feel comfortable with him riding his bike around. The location is key! It's walking distance to bell tower, Starbucks, and Target. The pool is beautiful and rarely crowded. The valet trash/recycling pickup is especially convenient. Maintenance shows up quick when requested. Management is very friendly. All the neighbors keep to themselves for the most part. The property is well maintained. My apartment is nice. It has high ceilings, big bathtubs, hardwood floors, spacious closets and a beautiful view of the lake and the pool. I do wish there were bike rakes. I've also been on the waiting list for a garage since I moved in July. We end up having to carry our bikes up 3 flights of stairs. I'm worried they won't give me an option to renew my lease after only a 1 year term because they're modernizing the apartments. I moved to this apartment from up north in July of last year and I'm just not ready to think about having to move. My son and I have moved a lot in the past 5 years. This is the first place we feel stable and at home in awhile. I currently pay $2k a month for a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom and the modernized apartments are going for $2500+. I hope they're willing to work with me for at-least one more term until I'm ready to buy a house. read more

Colorful things going on here!! Talked to rep at 10am on the phone for a tour, and potential signing of lease. Told her I would like to move in Feb. 21. She said, great, there is a unit availabe, and we could get your app in for it right away. Upon my arrival for the tour(11am) the unit was magically rented. But she did offer to still show a unit, and could give me a Feb.28-- maybe..... I guess I was just too late....GTFOH! It was very obvious to be why the property all of a sudden out of no where became rented, once I was seen in person. read more

This is a great community to live in. It's clean, scenic, and peaceful. The staff members are amazing; Bebe Cox, the Assistant Manager is incredible. She is professional, prompt, and welcoming. The apartments are spacious, I live in a three bedroom, the Master bedroom is huge, with a sizeable walk in closet If you are looking for a great place to live, The Ashlar is definitely worth looking into. read more

I paid for an "upgraded" apartment but all you really get is linoleum floor instead of carpet and a few updated light fixtures. All other finishes are very outdated including white laminate countertops and white appliances that are at least 10 years old. They increase rent every lease renewal pretty significantly which they said was "based on the market" however with each renewal you are paying much more than what they are asking new renters to pay. The complex is very nice, gates usually in working order and they do have a beautiful pool area. Neighbors were very quiet and polite. People in the office were courteous enough until it came to my last renewal when I told them I could not afford the price jump. They said they would work with me and offered to reduce it by 20 dollars a month which I felt was kind of a slap in the face. They are not exactly interested in keeping good tenants that always pay their rent on time apparently. I was basically laughed at and told "we are at 95% occupancy" as if to say they didn't need my money. I found a much nicer apartment for a better price that was completely updated. If you are looking to stay for a one year lease then it might be a good choice but if you plan on staying any longer I would look elsewhere. read more

I moved in here the other month and it has been absolutely horrible. Right after we moved in the roofs are getting redone, and of course ours didn't start until right after we moved in. All we've heard every day since we moved in is roofers above my head hammering away at 7 am. It's been absolutely driving me insane. I wouldn't have moved in if I knew it was going to take this long and start at 7 am and I haven't been able to sleep because I work at night so I've basically just been forced to go to work every night with zero sleep because those roofers are all anyone hears from 7 to 5. I can't take it anymore it's taken weeks for this one roof. The apartments themselves are great, but this roofing has ruined the entire experience! read more

This is a great place to live! The apartments are well kept, super pet friendly, and the staff has a positive and efficient attitude. Work orders are completed within 24 hours and the maintenance workers do a great job fixing and explaining the issues you called them about! read more

I'm only giving two stars for the grounds. Looks nice but I've had nothing but problems on the inside. My place had a water heater rust out at the bottom causing MOLD and they cut corners and rushed it. Now I'm moving out! Management is HORRIBLE! Say things will be fixed in 48hrs or 45$ off rent. Yeah right. Not heated pool maintanince guys drive around in golf carts texting all day. And traffic gets really bad on Daniels. read more

great location. nice looking complex. Rent is average, a little high, but for the area & amenities it's understandable. Non-refundable deposit for pets is expensive & there's a monthly pet rent. My apartment was conveniently located in the complex, & my neighbors were pretty quiet. As with any complex there are some disrespectful people... Dogs not on leashes, owners who do not pick up after their pets, large dogs frequently in the small dog park. It's great they put in dog parks. I had a few maintainence issues & they were quick to respond. I likely would have stayed a resident longer if not for rude people. The office staff is nice, especially Karen. If you're looking for a higher end apartment complex close to everything, I'd recommend the Ashlar. read more

Overall the community wasn't such a bad place to live, all of our neighbors were very friendly and we enjoyed being able to walk our dog around the circle. All of my complaints have to do with the staff in the office. They were unwelcoming, unprofessional, and ver unhelpful when it came to move in and move out procedures. Upon first arrival at the Ashlar, Chrissy Acosta prompted us to sign a walkthrough sheet without even conducting one with us. When we requested a walkthrough she reluctantly took my fiancé and I through the apartment. When we addressed certain things that should be added to the walk through sheet, such as badly burned and stained counter tops, rusted out shower heads, and missing electrical outlet covers we were told that all of that was "normal wear and tear." There was one month where we paid rent with money orders and they were credited toward another persons rent. There was an eviction notice placed on our door and when we went to address it Chrissy stated that they had lost the money orders. Furthermore my fiancé and I were pestered about turning in they keys to our apartment after we were told we had an extra 2 days after vacating to clean the apartment before handing in the keys. When we arrived to clean we stopped into the office to address the many calls we received and Bebe admitted to not knowing when our move out date was (why couldn't she look it up in the system?) and apologized (which was nice of her) however I feel that it's her job to know or at least look up these details. When we arrived to turn in the keys Bebe did not even schedule a final walkthrough with us just said we were all set and when we requested one she was not on time, and we were stuck waiting in the parking lot only to head to the office and have one of the staff members text her. The staff member then said that she had probably taken a longer lunch and that Bebe would meet us at the apartment when she was done with lunch. When she finally arrived Bebe claimed to have been waiting in the parking lot for us (which was clearly untrue when we were waiting outside the building... if you saw us waiting then why wouldn't you come and address us?) When conducting the walkthrough she addressed the stains on the carpet that were already listed on the walkthrough sheet as not being "normal wear and tear" and said that if the stains couldn't be removed we would have to pay for the carpets to be dyed. When I addressed that these stains were marked on our move-in walkthrough sheet she immediately got defensive and began speaking very rudely to my fiancé and I. Also, when we put in our notice to vacate Tammy (the office manager) Chrissy (our leasing consultant) and Bebe did not provide us with any guidance on the move out procedures. When my fiancé asked Chrissy the exact amount of our prorated rent for the final month he was told to "do the math" because their system will automatically generate the entire months rent and they can't figure it out. Unfortunately it's sad that this community has such an unpleasant and unhelpful office staff as it has the potential to be a great place to live. read more

I have been living here since 2014, and l have to agreed with the other reviews, however management people is new and after we got the new management team up to speed, things are very good. Tammy and Jessica are awesome and they are always willing to help you and make the residents happy. There are some things that are out of their control. There is also a new maintenance people and the issues are being resolve in a timely manner, but they could be even better. We love the place, it is very quiet, the location is awesome, closed to everything, and my children feel safe. I am not giving 5 stars because they are not perfect yet, there is a lot to get better at. read more

This place is disgusting!!!!!! Health inspection need to pay them a visit. Roaches and rats infested. NASTY.. NASTY..NASTY!!!They even get in your refrigerator. Trash depository smell horrible. Trash piled outside around trash depository at any given time. Office staff including maintenance are all insufficient . The only time you see them in the office is around rent time. Any other time they don't bother about answering the phone. You have to keep calling. Apartments are not well maintained. I would not recommend anyone live there. Go by check it out before you commit. If possible, try to visit inside one of the properties. The pictures online needed to be updated. The complex does not look that way now. Not even close. They have the nerve to include a fee for pest control in your rent. Oh... they post signs outside the rental office when rent is due...like you don't know. How tacky is that!! read more

Here's what you can expect from Ashlar Apartments by Northland: 1) Incorrect accounting leading to unfounded late fees 2) 10% increase in rent after lease expiration 3) Misrepresentation of agreements by staff(get everything in writing) 4) Overzealous maintenance people that do not abide by their "knock, friendly entrance" policy. I was in the shower once, had them walk in on me and my fiancé sleeping in the bedroom on another occasion. No knock, no friendly "hello". 5) Night-time lighting in stairwells out for weeks at a time. 6) Gates inoperable for weeks at a time. 7) No assistance from management with regards to unruly neighbors and noise. 8) Ants, despite monthly pest control. 9) Lake level diminished severely during dry season. 10) Sometimes the fountains work, sometimes they don't. 11) ...and many, many more issues. we sold our home in Ga a few months ago and moved to ft myers. We decided to make all our arrangements on line and didn't come to look at apts prior to our move. We rented an apartment in Channelside apts because it was new and looked great on line. We signed a 7 month lease just in case we found a better place once we were here. Today we took a tour around Ashlar. Oh my God, what a dump! The rent is comparable to Channelside and the place needs a complete update and cleaning. The funniest thing was when the guy told us that the unit he showed us was "updated". I asked him what he meant and he explained that all the appliances had been replaced. After 15 years I would hope so. The oven /stove is the old coil type (we have glass top) the microwave above the stove is leaves about 6 inch clearance so you can't put a big pot on the stove. The counters are all white laminate (we have granite). I can go on and on. Bottom line- If you live at or are considering renting at Ashlar, come on over to Channelside, you won't be disappointed I promise you. read more

Absolutely a terrible living experience. I should have walked away from the beginning when the apartment I picked and paid a deposit on was not available a week before my move in. Several days later they called to give me another. Upon move in, I find a filthy apartment with very noticeable patched walls, stained carpets, bent towel bars, and the list goes on. My apartment was on the celebrated retention pond but don't be fooled. I was looking forward to being able to open my windows and enjoy the cool winter Florida breezes, but the stench from pond was repulsive. All winter breezes of moldy smelly air made me ill. On numerous occasions I had to call the police due to my neighbors continuing domestic violence issues. My family and I were kept up many nights. I reported these incidents to management each and every time and nothing was done. Ultimately, I ended up terminating my lease early. I had to get out of there. The Ashlar is way over priced for a dumpy apartment and drama ridden neighborhood. read more

It's just way too expensive for what is offered - $1075 for a 1-bedroom: a very small bedroom (my king bed prevents the closet door from fully opening) with only one small walk-in closet in the entire place. There's not even a pantry. If I didn't need to move into a place as quickly as I had to, I would have searched for a better value for my dollar. read more

Pet friendly, great location, and beautiful view of the lake! Had problems with the AC. The maintenance crew didn't rest until they fixed the problem. Rent is a little bit high. I'm hoping it doesn't increase too much when the contract is over. I really love this place! read more

The new management team is a blessing. They are working hard to right the wrongs done by the last team. The apartments are in a great location, and are nicely tucked away from the main road. The apartments are definitely starting to age, but management is good about replacing/fixes things when it needs to be done. The maintenance staff are all very friendly and professional. Any time I have an issue, the problem is fixed in a timely manner. The property is well-maintained, and has a great sense of community. The only issue I have is the high rent, but that is pretty common at all complexes in the area. read more

I lived at the Ashlar this past one year. Rented a 2/2. Lovely apartment with incredible view. The grounds are maintained beautifully and the swimming pool is the emerald of the place. HOWEVER, in the last 6 mos. of living there, several of the new residents were extremely loud/obnoxious and they are trashing the place. Speaking with several of the longtime residents before I moved, they too are very concerned about the lack of screening the management is doing of the people they are renting to, PLUS, because the place is very expensive, units are being subletted with overpopulated occupancies created. It really is ashamed, as this is one of the very few nice apartment complexes in all Lee County, Florida and as I already mentioned, very expensive! For example, my rent for the one year I was there was $1240/mo. If I had stayed, it was going to be raised another $325 PER MONTH to $1565! WT?!!!!!! I am fortunate to have been able to purchase my own home! I hope management will really take to heart what I have shared, and make the necessary changes to keep the Ashlar from becoming a slum complex! Also, quit gouging the crap out of people too with such exorbitant annual increases...for nothing new! read more
