The surgical nurses were professional, kind and helpful. My experience to this point was fabulous! A++ My room was clean, until I had an extreme bowel reaction to the stool softener and prune juice. It happened under the care of Khadijah-32035 and Yues-33151. Both had a rude demeanor and acted like I was a burden. Khadijah was always 45 min past the time I was to receive my meds so my pain would reach 10 and for her 12 hr shift I never got lower than 8! When I called and told her I'm sure I'm going to have explosive diarrhea and I need to go now, she sent the tech Yues who left the urine collection cup in the toilet and the forceful diarrhea hit the cup and not only filled it up and overflowed it splattered all over the side of the toilet, wall and my gown. When he saw that he was mad and told me the urine cup should've been removed before I sat down! I thought the same thing but for whatever reason he left it there knowing I'm having diarrhea. He got me a new gown and wiped the seat. But the diarrhea that splattered all over the place remained there until the morning I left! I was irate and finally demanded it be cleaned and sanitized. That went ignored. Anabel -33447 she is the BEST nurse I had. She was kind and compassionate, when I told her about my extreme anxiety she took her time to explain and demonstrate things to ease my anxiety and did it with such empathy! She is the hospitals greatest asset in my opinion! Thank you Anabel!!! My only regret was I wish I would've had Anabel the first 48hrs after surgery as I feel she would've been a better advocate to help my pain. Instead I had to suffer through.

Everyone explained the processes and timing clearly. Patient was taken to surgery room at the time it was scheduled - 7:30 am. I waited in the waiting area and cafeteria (decent coffee and oatmeal) and the doctor snd nurse had taken my number down. Doctor called at the end of the procedure and I was notified when my patient was awake and ready to go home. Everything worked well and smoothly.

The only lacking issue is specialists for Trauma and serious specialist are not readily available which means you would have to be transported to another medical center, if they don't have the capacity to treat you properly. However in there hands you are really treated well and mostly moves fast if need be. I had an issue with the accepting Hospital not cooperating which could have been slightly bad (Georgetown Hospital, is the worst when it comes to it) they delayed the transfer and said that the orders were wrong, when in fact they just were being non cooperative for the orders. Other than that Shady Grove Adventist was not at fault and proved to be more than accommodating during my stay. I would say, I wouldn't hesitate to visit them for any emergency in the future.

They really seem to go above and beyond at this place. For example, after the medical assistant took my vitals and exited the room, I started coughing / hacking uncontrollably. She heard me and came back in and proactively offered me one of their free bottled waters, which I very much appreciated. Also, when the PA/doctor later came in and I told her my symptoms and how I had tried to self-treat with some old Rx meds I had on hand (on the recommendation of my mom, who is also a nurse), she actually commended me for doing that, re-upped my Rx, and told me to keep going. Although it was no fun to be sick right before the December holidays, this place made treating that sickness less stressful than the typical urgent care. I give this place 5 stars -- maybe even 6!

Came for a 9pm CT Scan appointment only for the CT crew to send me to the lab for bloodwork at…read more9:30pm. So I did then at 10pm I'm called in and told I needed to do a urine test. At this point I'm annoyed. The phlembotimist in the lab was really sweet but also upset for me over the unprofessional ordeal of having to send me back and forth for one appointment. She had to call the CT department for the apparent bloodwork they requested but never sent in until she called them. While I was called in for my ct scan the person helping me didn't tell me to remove any metal items, just had me wait outside the ct room. I had to ask him if I needed to remove my bra (because of the wire lining) and he asked me what scan I was doing. Huh? Are you serious? NO COMMUNICATION BETWEEN DEPARTMENTS AT ALL. Right after my CT scan (10:45pm) my body developed an allergic reaction to the contrast. I was sent to urgent care for some Benadryl. So I waited at urgent care for over 2 hours. Just to be given som Benedryl around 11pm but told to wait to see a doctor after. By the time the doctor actually saw me (12:30am) the medicine already took affect so my allergic reaction bumps had already subsided. Basically I waited 2+ hours to be told I should take more allergy meds the next day if I'm still itchy. What should've been a 30-40min appointment turned into a 3.5 hour shit show. I'm honestly so annoyed over the CT department for their lack of knowledge and only telling me to get labs done 30mins after my initial appointment.

In December of 2023, we took our then 18-months old to the facility because he was having a 99-100 degree fever. We waited for about 60-75 minutes (it was 2am in the morning). When it was finally our turn, the nurses and doctors provided quality care. We did some testing and later found out that our baby did not have COVID or the flu. Last week, we took our baby boy again for diarrhea and diaper rash. We only waited 15 minutes this time because I registered and checked-in online. Additionally, in the beginning of the appointment the Dr offered my son a lolipop and I explained to her that he couldn't have it because he has severe food allergies to many allergens and I couldn't be certain the lolipop was not be cross contaminated. Well, later when she gave me the syringe of meds to give him, I noticed he started itching a lot after taking it. I stepped out of the room and looked where the medicine was and there was strawberry Hersheys syrup out on the counter. I asked the dr if she gave that to him and she said yes she put it in with his medicine because "the medicine tastes terrible"... but she didn't ask me before or tell me it was in the medicine I gave it to him. I told her that I had told her he had food allergies and she said "we try to use hypoallergenic stuff" and then asked me what he is allergic to after I had told them at least twice what he was allergic to. Regardless, trying to use hypoallergenic items doesn't really cut it when it comes to cross contamination and informed consent... especially when she was on notice of a food allergy and didn't tell me she was using food in the meds!!! Thankfully my son ended up not reacting other than itching but I was shocked that she wouldn't even tell me about the syrup or let me read the label and he was already in respiratory distress. Beyond that there were numerous other things that I was unhappy with during the visit, including but not limited to general staff demeanor.

I received a response (letter) from and individual by the name of Thankam about a grievance that I filed with Patient Relations.  I had a horrible experience at the Shady Grove Emergency room. I due to a sudden abdomen pain. I felt yet again disrespected by this organization with the response provided by Thankam. In his response, the timeline and situation is written in a way that appears that I was at fault and disregarded medical care. This is incredibly inaccurate and disrespectful. First, it is written that the timeline about medication being administered to me within 90 minutes of my arrival is not entirely accurate. This happened after I asked several times to the front desk in the ER lobby to get medicine. By the way, I arrived to the ER before 6am and went to a room around close to 9am. Second, the way that Thankam wrote in response; "Investigations lead to a specialty consultation and recommendation for admission which the hospitalist concurred. You denied the admission offered and left our facility." This is INCREDIBLY INACCURATE. At no point whatsoever did a Doctor come see me in the 14 hours that I was at the hospital. Which most of that time I was in a room without an emergency button. Which I needed due to high pain levels. Only when I asked to be discharged after waiting 14 hours for proper attention was when a nurse started making calls to Doctors to see who would come see me. Only after I told her that I wanted to leave because I was concerned for my well-being. Only at that point was when my situation became 'important'. Only after I said I wanted to leave.  To have received such a letter from Thankam without this individual calling or even attempting to reach out to me is very frustrating because I am still being charged for this horrible experience and this individual did not reach out to me to clarify any details or to get any other facts from me. It seems like they don't care that they did a horrible job with a patient that showed up to their ER with major abdominal pain. The interesting thing is that the major abdominal pain was due to a sudden internal bleed that in the proper hospital that I went after this place, found a malignant tumor which needed to be removed. I am writing this review to share my very negative experience with Dr. Cohen. While I had hoped to…read moresee a different doctor at the practice, I was scheduled with her. My concerns began when a PA associated with the practice recommended a colonoscopy without ever performing a physical exam. The lack of care continued with Dr. Cohen, who provided no instructions regarding my blood thinners. She failed to coordinate with my hematologist, and after the procedure, when I had bleeding issues, I still received no guidance on stopping my medication or when to restart my medication. I felt there was a disregard for my physical health. I made it clear before the procedure that I had an Achilles tendon injury that was almost healed. Despite this, I left the procedure with a new complication to that injury, requiring me to wear a boot for at least three weeks. When I expressed my concerns about all of these complications, I felt she completely shrugged them off. I left feeling unheard and disrespected. I would not recommend seeing this physician.
