The service team is polite. However the food is mediocre and the chef needs to be replaced. We ordered the ceviche to start which was over cooked and served with store bought guacamole and stale plantain chips. The seafood was likely from a frozen seafood mix that they prepare early in the day and allow to cook in acid (lime juice) until it becomes rubbery and unappetizing. The steaks were cooked on a dirty grill and cut before resting so they tasted dry and were covered with unappetizing burnt bits on the outside. The chimichurri sauce tasted as if it was also prepared days prior and lacked the floral notes of fresh herbs, maybe it was also store bought. The place has a nice atmosphere however I couldn't get past the mediocre food and was especially surprised by the price they are charging for such a mediocre meal. At least make the food fresh and hire a proper chef. Overall, if you are looking for an overpriced (Applebees quality) meal than this place is for you. If you prefer to eat fresh food when you dine out, I would avoid this place. Also they have a bad food safety rating which we didn't see because we went thru the bar which had a good rating. I have been wanting to eat here for the longest time now, not sure what took me so long to finally make that decision, but I'm glad I got to finally experience Asado. I've had Argentinian inspired food before in Seattle, so I wasn't sure if it would be similar. To my surprise it was actually different in a good way! Every dish was very vibrant and packed with flavors. Our servers were very friendly and attentive, ensuring every dish was up to par. When you are sat down, you are given complimentary rustic style warm bread with a balsamic olive oil dip that I think has pimento cheese in the dip. For starters we had the queso frito and chorizo crab cakes. I really enjoyed the queso frito, the goat and blue cheese was not over powering but still distinct enough you can taste it. The crab cakes was unfortunately a little lack luster. It was very small compared to the crab cakes I've had before at other restaurants and they were very dry. Maybe that's why it was served with lots of what I think was a type of crema sauce. Our main entrees was the braised lamb shank and the mix plate that came with beef skewers, chorizo sausage, and jumbo grilled prawns. Both our entrees came with side dishes, but we wanted to try some of their other sides. So ordered a side of roasted corn and grilled asparagus. The lamb shank came with the beans cooked with bacon. The lamb shank was super tender fall off the bone. I barely had to apply any pressure with my fork or knife. I highly recommend the lamb shank, I think this is one of their sought out specialties, however they said they only serve 4 each dinner service. So if you want to try it, make reservations and be one of the first customers there. Asparagus had a great grilled flavor, roasted corn was okay not anything too spectacular. The mix plate came with Peruvian mash purple potatoes...very good. But the rest of the meat on the plate was also just okay. The finale, banana donut for dessert comes with a caramel and a chocolate dipping sauce. Im not sure how banana donuts are normally supposed to taste, but I didn't enjoy it. One of my friend recommended this place to us and we were nearby that area so we walked in. It seems like it's better to make reservations than walk in. We were really lucky to get a spot! But it think the bar is opened to everyone! The service was great! Our server was really sweet and kind. The food might take sometime to get served because it's freshly made. The Chorizo sausage was good but I'm just not a huge fan of the rough texture. It's great seasoned and spicy. My bf got the prime top sirloin, and it's so good!!!! He got purple mashed potatoes! The whole dish is super amazing! Like 10000/10 recommended. For the clams and chorizo fettuccine was ok. I do not recommend it. First, some of the shells broke into small pieces, it might be Lowkey dangerous. And several of the clams still had sands in it. The fettuccine just stick together into a chunk! They have a separate bar food menu, that's what I was hoping for as I knew I couldn't afford much from their actual menu or enjoy much from it due to my gluten intolerance. They had corn gnocchi on the regular menu, which is all they offered and I didn't think to ask for a separate bar food menu when that's where I was sitting. I asked the waiter if it was gluten-free, he said, "I don't know... I can check. No, I'm sure it's gluten-free. Yeah it is." And never asked the kitchen. I had my drink (pretty good) and left. My favorites was the Brussels sprouts and calamari, but I wasn't a big fan of the ceviche. I ordered the parilla mixta and it was pretty good. A little heavy on the pepper, but it was solid. But what made my experience was how incredibly friendly our server was! I forgot her name, but it was a blonde woman with a very friendly attitude. Ok, folks have recommended that we come for the cocktails. But we wanted to try some good food as well so we made reservations for our anniversary. Good thing too. It's hard to get in without them. We brought a third wheel to celebrate with us and all ordered seasonal signature cocktails along with the Uli's Chorizo Asada entrada. Our server was attentive and right on it with bread and drink orders. She was very friendly and grabbed the entrada order quickly. The chorizo comes as two full sausages with veggies and, as expected from Uli, was excellent. Water glasses were never empty. For dinner we had the Parilla Mixta with purple mashed potatoes, Elote Gnocchi, and the Garron de Cordero. Our server was quick to ensure that we had backups in case the kitchen was running low as they only do a few lamb shanks each day (there were a few large parties) which was a nice touch to line up just in case (wasn't necessary for us). The lamb slid off the bone and was perfectly seasoned. The gnocchi was rich and creamy. The mixta was a good portion: Two prawns, one Uli's chorizo sausage, and one skewer of beef - which was awesome. Perfectly medium rare. The purple potatoes are quite good and a perfect side (as our server told me they would be). Asado is a great place for a very nice dinner date. We had the ceviche and empanadas as an appetizer and they were delicious and portion size on point. I washed mine down with their special sangria and it was amazing...I've had sangria in many restaurants and countries and this was my all time favorite....who would have thought a simple cinnamon stick could change the game for sangria lol...I'm sure it's more added but the taste of cinnamon in the sangria gave me life!!!! The first time, I went with a couple girlfriends and the place was packed! The dishes were exactly how I remembered it. Dishes: Garron De Cordero, this dish was exactly how I remembered it. A nicely braised lamb shank falling off the bone. It is packed with flavor. The meat was so soft and succulent, it felt like sin eating it. The butter beans surrounding the meat had a nice pickled taste. Take a bite of the lamb, and take a bite of the butter beans. The slight acidity of the butter beans with the combination of the rich lamb will leave you extremely happy. I finished my plate with the help of my two friends. My fiancée ordered the Lomo, he absolutely loved it and devoured it within minutes. Our friend ordered the Chorizo and Clams. With tip we almost spent $200. The food was good, but the quality didn't match the price. We have had better cuisine in the area for half the price. But I did think the complimentary bread was really good, probably my favorite out of the whole dinner. The bread came with this delicious balsamic and oil and some kind of butter(?) dip. We started off with the Calamari Frito and a cocktail each: the Pom Drop and the Spring Affair. Our appetizer and drinks came out pretty quick. The calamari was decent, and the cocktails were good. And we both ordered the Clam and Chorizo Fettuccine, which took a bit of a wait to get our food. The waitress did apologize for the wait. I thought the pasta was okay, while my my cousin really liked it and thought the sauce was really tasty. And I literally had only one piece of chorizo in my pasta while my cousin had at least eight. Asado has become our go to place for any special nights out. The location on 6th is easy to get in and out of and the valet parking is inexpensive (and it's donated to a local charity!). The staff is always attentative and caring. All the waitstaff is polite, well versed on the menus, and give great recommendations for both food and drink. We do have to give special recognition to Louis, she is by far the best garçon/maitre d'/concierge that we have had the pleasure of meeting in a lot of years traveling and exploring. She lifts the experience to another level. In our opinion the best things on the menus are; Diablo Martini- Just the right amount of heat, with abundant flavor The Ceviche is to die for. The plantain chips are an unexpected twist! The Butter Wedge Salad is soft, flavorful and refreshing. The Avocado pairs wonderfully. The Costilla De La Carne (Frenched Rib Steak) is perfectly seasoned and will melt in your mouth! Placed atop a side of your choosing, (the Peruvian Purple Potatoes and Polenta are our favs!) We also recommend the Crème Brûlée, simple, and not overpoweringly eggy. Great finish to an awesome meal. Bravo to everyone, from the valet attendants to the General Manager. Just left - took Mom for Mother's Day and had a terrible experience. Food was good taste wise but the service was awful. We came at 4pm, place was empty so can't blame it on being busy. We ordered the empanadas, 2 steaks and the whole branzino. The steaks came out first, we had to mention we were still waiting on the empanadas appetizer and branzino, waiter said he forgot to put in the empanadas, and that it would be out soon, along with the branzino, about 5 mins he said. Well, it took at least another 20-30 mins for the branzino. They tried to take our steaks back at first but we didn't want it just sitting while we waited on the empanadas. Now I realized that tried to take back because they forgot the branzino too, not just the empanadas and they knew it would take longer than 5 mins. I let the waiter know that this was unacceptable, the rest of us already finished our meal. When we got our check, not one discount or apology. We had to ask and they discounted $27 of our $200something bill. We won't be back. read more

Yum! I went here for my Dad's 50th birthday with my Dad, Mom, and sister. Each of us ordered different things to get the full experience. First, we started off with crab cakes as out appetizer. They were to die for, they had delicious bits of chorizo that added a delicious spice to them. The price for three half dollar sized crab cakes was $21. The price was a little high but man were they delicious. My Dad ordered the Puerco Relleno which looked decadent and he said it was excellent. My mom ordered the Piccata de Pollo, which I personally didn't care for because there were these large whole garlic cloves that were soft placed all over the chicken. The chicken was a little dry but with the purple mashed potatoes it wasn't bad. Those purple mashed potatoes were delicious I highly recommend them. My sister got the Asado Seared Sea Bass, that was absolutely stunning. The ol' my con to these three meals is the portion sizes, they were very small all around. My meal was the only full sized looking meal and it was my favorite of all four. I ordered the Pollo Frito Fettucine and it was full of flavor and the chicken was cooked beautifully. I also ordered their Sangria and my mom ordered a Long Island iced tea, both were tasty and strong! The wait time for us between the appetizer and our meal was ONE HOUR. We waited and waited and our waitress gave us zero information! I felt bad for my dad because it was his birthday and this is the place he chose to celebrate and didn't revive the treatment I thought he deserved, which is why I took off a star. In the beginning is was a slow night and then it picked up so I understand the wait, but I don't understand why we weren't informed or spoken to. After we got our food the waitress seemed to purposely avoid us. We had to physically chase her down to order dessert for my dad because he wanted to enjoy some form of birthday dessert. My mom was patient and her patience ran out when we continued to not hear back about our desserts. She spoke with the waitress and mentioned that we had waited a very long time for our food and now our desserts. The waitress made excuses, but eventually comped the desserts. All four! She didn't have to do that but it was very much appreciated. Time for the desserts! My dad ordered the blackberry lime cheesecake and that was rich and creamy. My mom ordered an apple empanada with coffee ice cream, which was amazing. My sister ordered a dark chocolate cheesecake which was a little bitter but very rich. I ordered the crème brûlée which was my favorite of the whole night. All the desserts were impeccable! I loved evert single item on the dessert menu that we ordered. Kate was our waitress and I honestly wish I could experience a waitress like her at every restaurant we go to. She was super friendly and beyond knowledgeable of the menu. She provided some great suggestions and insight on multiple menu items. My husband and I were amazed but her customer service skills. The food was out of the world. My husband is a phenomenal chef so it's hard for us to go out and find meals we truly enjoy. However, this place blew our minds. We started with the Pom Drop and Diablo Martinis. Both great drinks. I ended up having 2 Pom Drops. Then we had the ceviche and oh. My. God. It was so fresh, so light and probably the best ceviche we've ever had. Then I got the pork and my husband for the ribeye steak. They were both so flavorful and cooked perfectly. Before we left we were discussing how we couldn't wait to come back and what we plan to order next time (spoiler: I can't wait to try the Sea Bass Kate talked so highly of). Everything about this restaurant screams "first class." The valet, the table attendants, the food, the ambiance, and the service are some the best that I have seen. This is a busy place--and rightly so--because this is one of the best places in Tacoma to have a meal. It is a great spot for a special celebration. Our hostess was Kris and she was top notch.
