10/10 HIGHLY RECOMMEND. This place was hands down a gem of a dinner spot in Houston's Midwest neighborhood. I can't rave enough of how well the food was executed and served with warm service as well. I came here for my college graduation celebratory dinner and literally couldn't be happier with my reservation through the Yelp app/Open Table. The food itself is worth coming for, as practically EVERYTHING on the menu is AMAZING (and we ordered A LOT of food). I will say that my pizza cheese was so soft and fresh that it fell of the crust as I was eating it, but mamma mia the crust baked in the stone oven was #goals. The top two pasta dishes of the night were the crab-filled ravioli in their homemade cream sauce, as well as the shrimp fettuccine with cilantro pesto sauce (don't be shy to try it if you don't like cilantro--it brings out a pleasant balance to counteract the creamy sauce). Lastly, DO ORDER THE DESSERT. Our table's top three choices of the night were: Apple puff pastry a la mode, flourless chocolate cake a la mode, and tiramisu (with a light orange chiffon cake-like taste). It's a bit out of the way from inside the loop but it was definitely a worthwhile. Very good seafood dishes - usually difficult to keep it light and fresh but also flavorful. Tried Camarones Henesy En Hamaca and Beef Blue. Both lived up to the Yelp review hype. Great service as well. Appears to have a lot of neighborhood customers, which is always a great sign. I so wanted to give this place more stars, but for the value, I absolutely couldn't. With all of the great reviews, this place moved up through my bookmarks to become a must-try. We were excited to go and had already scouted the menu. Upon arriving, we decided to valet as there wasn't any available parking in the lot. It was complimentary and the valet was nice, so that was a good beginning. When we walked in, I noticed how small the restaurant is. My boyfriend had called to make a reservation and confirmed it but they were seemingly having trouble finding it. What was a bit off was that they were really intently looking for it when the restaurant was half empty. If we didn't have one, did it matter? Anyway, after that we were seated and got recommendations from the waiter. The atmosphere is a 3, small but cozy. The dress code varied from super casual to dressy which was a bit awkward, and I wasn't a huge fan of the yellowish lighting (you can tell from the photos) but overall a nice date place. The service was definitely a 5. We had 2 waiters helping us and one of them seemed to know the menu backward and forward. He recommended the shrimp dish we had and the ravioli we got as well. Here's the food breakdown: Complimentary rolls (3.5) - small but you can get more and they're soft and come with an good dip. Camarones (5 for taste, 4 for value) - The broth on this dish was exquisite, and this was the highlight of the meal. We really enjoyed the flavors and how they came together and we each got 2 shrimp which was nice. The dish was light, though, so for value a 4 is definitely a fairer rating. Tuna Tartare (3) - This was a fine dish, but it wasn't special. We were a bit confused as to the fellow Yelpers raving about this, as it didn't taste like anything we couldn't figure out how to make ourselves. The portion for sure was also only okay given that the dish felt like simply a dish full of good tuna. Mama Sonia's Ravioli (3 for taste, 2 for value) - How in the world is this dish $28.50!? I was super confused about that when I saw it but I thought okay maybe the crabmeat will make it worth it. There is crabmeat but not NEARLY enough to justify almost $30 for some ravioli in a strong cream sauce. The ravioli is good but it's super heavy and I didn't think it was worth a dollar more than $20, and I was pretty offended by the price tag on this. Garlic bread (3) - It's an off the menu item that the waiter let us know about and we decided to that instead of a 2nd entree because we could tell the meal was getting expensive quickly. The garlic bread wasn't expensive (a few dollars?) but it was only really worth that. Wine selection (2 for value) - There is literally no bottle of red wine under $50 and one bottle of white under $40. While the wines may be great wines, there is almost no selection for someone who doesn't want to spend more than $60 a bottle. Complimentary creme brulee was fine. I won't rate it because I'm not a huge creme brulee person, but it was way too sweet for me and my boyfriend. Also, we didn't try the pizza but the couple next to us had one and it looked pretty meh. The guy who had it didn't finish it and didn't take it home either, so you can take that for whatever it's worth. The menu is extremely limited too, and when you have that, you have to execute perfectly on the few dishes you make. All of their steak, by the way, is a la carte, so you can just go to a butcher and figure out how to make those by yourself, or splurge on a steakhouse where the chef specializes in steak. The issue we have here is that we wouldn't want to go back for anything. The bill was over $100 and we had 3 dishes and the cheapest bottle of wine they served, and that's without tip! We have eaten at many places in Houston for that price and had either more alcohol, more food or both. Overall: food was good; service was annoying. As far as the food goes, the hangar steak (I'd give it a 4/5) with the chimichurri sauce was very good, and the truffle fries that came with it were delicious. The margherita pizza (2/5) was OK but not great, especially given that they kind of messed up the order. The best item was the creme brûlée (5/5) sample that the waiter brought out for free with our check--just two cute spoonfuls/sample-size--the top sugar layer was super crunchy and delicious. And the bread rolls that come out before the meal are great. But what knocks my rating down is the service--our waiter was very annoying. He got the mechanics right and filled our water glasses, placed our order and brought out the food promptly, but his manner was very annoying. Whenever he filled our water glasses, he'd interrupt our conversation and comment on what we were talking about (one time, his comments were kind of insulting). 5/15/2020. Picked up Risotto with octopus, couple of pizzas for the freezer and Shrimp/lump crab in a cream sauce over flat noodles. Best Risotto in the city,will never figure how the octopus is melt in your mouth tender. 1st time to have the shrimp/crab, will not be 5he last. You have to go to Italy to get food this good. Made a reservation for two here on Thursday for Saturday night (saw the confirmation on their iPad). Got there 10 minutes early and when we walked in they said they did not have room but could pull a table up and when one was available we could move. The table was in the middle of the walkway from the kitchen and on the way to the bathroom where everyone was trying to walk. The table was so wobbly, all the glasses and plates set the table were about to slip off. He said the floor was crooked so it was unfixable. He didn't offer for us to wait and basically kicked us out of the restaurant. Won't be returning. read more

Service is always welcoming. Have gone with large group twice and several with just my husband. Every dish has been prepared with perfection. First time customer review. Service was ok...not too slow and not constantly checking up on us, which is what I like. I originally was confused as to who our server was. We got sat by a guy who asked us for our drinks, got greeted by a girl within minutes and also asked what we wanted to drink, and then another guy came with our water and asked if we wanted to order who was followed by the first guy who sat us. Eventually our server was Juan (according to the receipt). Environment was pretty cute, we got a corner table which was fairly quiet and cozy for us as we were celebrating our anniversary. We got the first tapas dish as our appetizer. Something with shrimp. It was pleasantly seasoned but I kind of wish the tomatoes were a bit more raw. But that's just my taste. For our entrees, I got the fettuccini shrimp in a pesto sauce and he got the snapper special. My pasta was pretty good, super rich and lots of big shrimps! However, the daily special fish dish was too acidic. They need to somehow balance all that lemon flavor in there because my bf ended up pouring the pesto sauce from my dish onto his to balance out all that acidic flavor. I wasn't impressed at all with this restaurant. I first had the mussels and they lacked flavor + salt, but on a good note they were cooked properly. I also got the snapper al fresco and once again this dish lacked flavor and salt. This is amazing, I wish it had come up on Yelp last night, we had to find it through open table. This is exquisite cuisine, a mix, a good one. The chef is pretty much an artist. We were looking for an intimate place to have wine and a great dinner last night, and we found Coltivare on Yelp and had raving reviews and it was so disappointing. Arturo Boada has been such a special place for my family and me! It is easily our favorite restaurant in Houston. They always make us feel like family every time we walk in and use our names when speaking to us. It is the best feeling and truly unique these days. The staff is incredible - we always love our service, specifically from Diego, Camielo and Max. But everyone is so lovely! Chef Arturo always makes a point to stop by all the tables and check in on everyone too. Such a nice and personal touch. I celebrated my engagement at the restaurant last summer and it was the perfect place to celebrate with close family and friends. We had a long table and we all able to converse and enjoy a delicious meal together. Since then, we go back often and the staff always asks how wedding planning is going, etc. It's so thoughtful and makes us feel special. The food is AMAZING and the extensive wine list is one of the best in Houston. We are always are full and happy when we leave. They even sent over a spoonful of Creme Brulee to our table! Their snapper is my favorite fish dish in Houston and I find myself craving it regularly! Everyone should add this to their must-try list!! You won't be disappointed!! A friend and I came here to try out their pizza. From what I know, this place is ranked one of the top 8 or 10 pizza places in Houston! So we ordered pizza!! (and the Carnitas pizza to be exact). The Carnitas pizza was awesome! It's like a 'street taco' on a pizza crust! The pizza was full of flavor and unique (in a good way). I'm not a fan of cilantro, but I still enjoyed this pizza. Another item we tried was their Paella, which is their Thursday night special. Now, I'm not a fan of shrimp so I was a bit wary about how it would taste, but it didn't have the "seafood taste" that usually turns me off. Their paella was actually pretty good! I even tried their truffle fries and the truffle oil they used was light. It was more of a hint of truffle, so I'm not sure if it was worth $6. Now, their Flourless Chocolate Cake was very good! The cake came out warm and with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. When I cut into that cake, steam was coming out... yum! It was really, really good! This restaurant is a bit "hidden" and there's valet parking, but if you drive past the valet folks you could actually park in the same lot (or on the street near the shady-looking apartments). read more

My wife and I tried out Arturo Boada last evening. Very nice romantic atmosphere. The wait staff was very attentive and helpful with a good wine selection and a suggestion for new appetizer pizza with a thin crust, goat cheese and figs. Outstanding! We continued with a ravioli dish and a NY Strip. Both excellent. The steak was fork tender and perfectly medium rare. We took a couple of desserts home, an apple tart with gelato and a crepe brûlée. Both delicious. We can't wait to go back to enjoy another meal and visits with virtually all the friendly staff. read more

I found a secret dish at one of my favorite restaurants. We have been enjoying Arturo's for years but this past weekend I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs (they are not on the printed menu but on their website) and they weren't awesome! Have I ever been to a place that does seafood as well as Arturo Boada? I don't think so. I am not even a huge fan of seafood but every dish we ordered surprised me with how well it was made... And none of the clams had any sand in them!! My experiences with frutti di mare at other restaurants have been bland seafood, tough mussels, and underwhelming tomato broth. You won't find any of that here. In fact, everything in the dish is cooked perfectly and the broth is delicious for dipping bread in afterwards. The little neck clams were tender, juicy, and HUGE. They tasted so great that we ended up ordering two plates. The NY strip we ordered was pretty average but the amazing seafood we had prior softened the disappointment. Get the apple dessert after you've gorged yourself on seafood and bury yourself in that flaky pastry. read more

Loved my lunch here. Gazpacho- spicy, cool, tomato and cucumber served with a small plate of accoutrements- grated cheese, egg, bell pepper, onion, parsley, bread crumbs. The fresh baked bread is excellent. Perfectly cooked seared red snapper with lump crab meat. Simple greens and cherry Tomatoes with shaved cheese sprinkled across the top. . One thing I hate about restaurants, is that it is not a linear scale when comparing quality and price of food. Some of my favorite restaurants are half the price of this one. For our 10th anniversary, my wife and I dined with another couple at Arturo Boada this past Saturday. Everything was great until one point during the meal when our waiter told my wife that he was relieved after meeting her at dinner. We asked why, and he proceeded to tell us that he was the one that took her call earlier that day for our reservation. He said that her accent suggested that she would be coming in with "mud boots with cow shit up to her knees." So, he was relieved when he actually met her in person. I submitted my comments via private email to the restaurant with my name, phone number and email... but they have not responded. I went on a business lunch in a party of 5. Everyone loved it and the waiter knew the menu up and down and made sure we had everything we needed, when we needed it. The decor is a little modest / plain and it is in a strip mall, so set your expectations on that front. The food is dang good though. The table split the proscutto and melon. Both were high quality ingredients. I had the WHOLE NINE YARDS salad. Basically this is just a bunch of fairly healthy and really good ingredients on a plate. Chicken was lightly seasoned and cooked well. Smoked salmon was top notch and tasted great. Veggies ie artichoke, tomato, avocado, hearts of palm, sweet peas in a champagne dressing were all fresh and delish. My only complaintwere the slightly overcooked shrimp. I've been wanting to try this as I was/am a fan of Arturos in Uptown Park. Yes, yes I know Chef Boada left. So I definitely couldn't wait to check out the new venue. To start...the face of the restaurant is slightly displeasing - only because I was used to the upstaged uptown grand location. The interior is a lot smaller - I'll call it "intimate". I liked however that Chef walked the tables quite a bit throughout the night to check on patrons. We were a large party of 10-12, and might I say their service was EXCELLENT. I've never had such prompt and consistent service for such a large party. We even took the lovely suggestion for wine from our waiter and had 4 more bottles from the perfect selection that went well across all orders. Food? Mussels in White Wine & Mussels in Red Wine/Sauce - ordered both. The sauce of the Red Wine was more robust - more flavorful. The mussels in the white wine were larger? Was it because we ordered the red afterwards? In either case both were good and solid starters Burrata Salad Special - I basically begged ... forced ... twisted my husbands arm to order this bc I loveee burrata. This was a strange foul tasting cheese. Only because it was not burrata. I'm almost positive they gave us goat cheese. He was so upset and I was so sad for forcing him to get it. This was gross. Mama Sonia's Ravioli - This is the reason why I love Arturos. I do hear it's "heavy" and yes it is but so delectable. I can eat those 5 and I WILL! But uptown has an appetizer option to get just one. I REALLY hope they carry that over here. New York Strip & Truffle Fries - Ok, at the end of the day you're not coming here for this. BUT if you are craving steak whilst everyone else is having italian food. This order will not steer you wrong. It's well cooked, tasty, tender, solid. The fries were a perfect addition (extra of cos) Margherita Pizza - I personally did not order this. It's the size of a plate - which is good. And all I kept hearing was "you have to try it - it's sooo good" Maybe next time :) All in all it was a successful dinner. I wish it was in a different location... But that's me. First, I want to say that every restaurant we went to during our week-long stay in Houston was fantastic. Even the neighborhood Thai restaurants there are clean and modern!! Yelp wasn't working too well on my iPad's Safari (kept wanting to download an app), so I made up my "List of Restaurants to Visit" from TRIPADVISOR.COM from the runway at Midway Airport . Long-story-short: This #40-rated restaurant did not make our list, but after ending up here by accident the last evening in Houston, it surpassed all the higher-rated places we visited! All employees were incredibly professional--everyone from the valet attendant who offered complimentary parking, the hostess, our waiter, even the owner who came by to greet us--all helped make it a wonderful experience. Absolutely no Chicago-style attitude (anywhere in Houston), you know, like how when you look up to catch a waiter's attention, they move swiftly and pretend they don't see you? Well, in Houston (at least all the places we dined), it's completely opposite: You look up and the nearest employee (hostess, bartender, or even another table's waiter) immediately asks how they can help (and this was on a busy, packed, Friday night). And if all that was not fantastic enough, there was also the food. All 6 of us (including 2 kids) enjoyed everything immensely. Nothing less than 5 stars, so here's a list of what we ate (shared): Prosciutto and Melon, Calamari, Mussels, Sausage Pizza, Grilled Chicken Rigatoni, Grilled Veal Chop, Seafood Paella. The recommended wine was also a winner. Though my 8-year-old son ate more than he had eaten all week, he was the first to ask about dessert. We ordered 2 chocolate fudge cakes with ice cream (the kids ordered them, us adults were too full to consider dessert), but it was so good, we ended up sharing anyway (and the kids were too pleasantly stuffed to mind). Cappuccino was also first-rate. In conclusion, since the #1-rated Uchi could not accommodate our same day reservation request, we ended up "settling" for #40-rated "Arturo Boada Cuisine," which turned out to be our best dining experience in Houston, even surpassing #9-rated "Taste of Texas" (also 5-stars), which garnished that title for a whole 4 days! Excellent Food, Excellent Service, Very lively and energetic ambiance. Loud at times, due to the quaintness, but that's what makes it fun. I have tried almost everything on the menu. Arturo can cook a mean fish. Excellent always. Filet is always yummy. Shrimp appetizer, great. Pizza's and pastas are outstanding, especially the Rigatoni, my favorite. All the wait staff are very professional and personable. Love Camilo, but how can you not. Ask for him if you have a chance. Love this quaint, local restaurant and very proud and happy for Arturo. I came here around 7 on a Friday night. There's an option to valet, but we were able to park on the street right in front of the restaurant. We were welcomed right when we walked in. The restaurant is cozy and the wait staff extremely friendly. It wasn't very crowded when we got there, but it filled up while we were there. We started off with the ceviche. I'm a huge fan of ceviche, and this was one of the best I've ever had. They also offer complimentary bread with olive oil and herbs to dip it in. This was also delicious. I ordered the fettuccine and shrimp for my main course. The creamy pesto sauce was perfect! I wasn't expecting a lot of shrimp because most restaurants I've been to don't give you much. Not this one! We ended with the creme brûlée for dessert. Where do I begin with this one? This was absolutely delicious. It is served in spoonfuls which I thought was interesting. This was my first time at any of Chef Arturo's restaurants and he certainly did not disappoint! Everything we tried had amazing flavor and the portions were healthy, but not overwhelming. We started with the garlic bread...oh. my. gah. It's disappointing that they charge for this, but after trying it I was forced to channel Ron Burgundy and say "Wow. That's actually - I'm not even mad. That's amazing!" We then enjoyed some tapas: fish tacos and grilled calamari. The fish tacos were a couple of bites each of a lovely corn tortilla, an aioli of some kind and well seasoned white fish topped with a few leaves of cilantro. Delish. The calamari tasted incredible but was fairly chewy - especially the legs which are normally my favorite part :( Don't get me wrong, we ate the whole plate, just saying it could've been a bit more tender. We also ordered the truffle fries as a random side dish. They were cut to a medium thickness, fried up nice and crispy, then tossed in truffle oil and sprinkled with parsley. They were fine, but I could probably live without them as I normally prefer super thin shoestring fries. For entrees we ordered a margharita pizza and a 'Nine Yards' Salad. The pizza tasted amazing but it fell victim to the thin crust + fresh mozzarella syndrome and the crust became very soggy toward the middle. This happens with my pizza's too, Arturo. I still have mad respect for that pizza oven you have (and I definitely want one now after staring at it during the whole meal). The salad was a good mix of items including smoked salmon, hearts of palm, hard boiled egg, two grilled shrimp (served cold), fresh avocado, cherry tomato and a champagne dressing. I really did like the salad but I was looking for contrasting texture and temperature. If he had included some toasted nuts and served the grilled shrimp piping hot it would've been perfect in my opinion. It was great as it was though :) Dessert was an incredible end to all this. We polished off a slice of key lime pie and a bowl of coconut gelato. Can I stop and tell you about the gelato for a second? They serve it sort of 25% melted so it's nice and soft and there's some ice cream soup at the bottom (my favorite thing ever) and as a finale they toss a bunch of toasted coconut on the top. My wife and I have been here several times, and each time it has been excellent. The food is great and the service is outstanding. We normally stick to our usual suspects, we start with the patatas bravas and the burrata and prosciutto, simply outstanding. Then we try one of the specials and gotta end with the creme brûlée. The restaurant is very cozy and has a great ambiance. We will keep coming to visit Arturo! read more
