Rodolfo is magnificent at what he does. He really went out of his way to make sure I was getting what I wanted from his work. I had come in with a photo of my sister and I when we were children. First, he blew up the image for me, which was really convenient and then he framed it with a really professional golden frame and laid in a purple background. This was a gift for my sister and I'm happy to say that she completely fell in love with it. All of the great reviews here regarding Rodolfo's work are easily merited. Simply, Rodolfo understands and appreciates art and is so capable at what he does that his framing is an art form. I recently completed my MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute and was desperately trying to find someone to frame my photographs for an upcoming show under very strict time pressures. Because my work was non-traditional and part of larger art work, many framers had a hard time understanding what I was trying to present. When I went to Rodolfo's studio, he spent over an hour with me designing ways to present my work on the wall. Then, once I had decided on how to present my work, Rodolfo spent hours again with me selecting frames that highlighted the work. He even helped me do such things as select the background wall color. Rodolfo is not only a true professional - he is thoroughly devoted to helping his clients create a space that features their work. If you care about the art that you are framing, bring it here! I brought a very weak frame in to be repaired and Rodolfo stopped what he was doing, completely repaired the frame rather than trying to upsell me on a new one and then patiently walked me through the different kinds of glass I could choose and how much they would cost. I thought I was going to have to leave the piece there, but he took it right then and cut the glass and completed the framing more professionally and for less than all those places that give you 60% off. I was in the area visiting a friend, and needed to have a print framed as a present. Being unfamiliar with the area, I walked into this frame shop uncertain of what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised. I've gone to a number of them over the years hoping to meet someone I felt I could work with creatively on projects I bring them and I know I'm getting the best possible price. He's willing to offer truly insightful ideas for whatever you bring him but he's also not pushy. I recently had a picture shipped to me from Maine, and UPS did a *lovely* job on one of the corners (sarcasm intended). I brought the damamged frame in to Rodolfo. I was seen right away, and within minutes I had a reasonable quote for what the work would cost. There was absolutely no pressure to get the work done right then, he said to check prices with some of his competitors if I liked. I did......and his was the most reasonable quote. Just got the frame back today.....good as new!!!! A beautiful shop, customer service of the highest order, and the top notch craftsmanship. Anyone complaining about the cost of custom picture-framing doesn't understand what goes into the work to make the joints seamless and secure for a lifetime or how to keep the glass absolutely smudge and lint-free throughout the process. I have seen, first-hand, the work that goes into each piece at Rodolfo's establishment and even took the time to research the brands of molding that he uses and can say, for certain, that there's a reason your money is well-spent here, rather than at some big box store that sells crappy "custom" frames (I'll not name names, but we know who I'm talking about). Rodolfo recently did a piece for me that I hold near and dear to my heart and he gave me a nice price break for being a repeat customer. I'm looking at it right now on my wall as I write this. I've been coming here for over a year and have never been less than totally pleased. Rudolfo does first class work, and he is very helpful in choosing frames and mattes for your art or photography. The only drawback is that it may take up to a month to have the work completed, but it is well worth the wait. Mr. Olortegui cares deeply about his craft, and it shines brilliantly in his work. 38 years of experience is a long time to be doing something; and while many could be moved to burn out or develop a jaded perspective, when I walk through the doors of APF, Mr. Olortegui is all smiles and enthusiasm; not just with me, but also with those I've seen walk in off the street for their first visit. The items that one may bring into APF to be framed, be it fine art (in my case), diploma or otherwise are treated as they are his own. While he is comfortable framing things exactly in the way that the customer wants, he will offer solutions that you may have never even thought about; not as a "cash-grab" tactic, but to help elevate the beauty of an item that is obviously important to you. He saw my post on Yelp about the creased magazine, and went ahead and ordered me a brand-new copy of the magazine I had framed, one with no crease. He did this despite the fact that I should have spoken up when I noticed the crease. I really enjoyed working with Rodolfo (he took a lot of time) to find the right frame and mats for my prints, but this is totally above and beyond the call of duty.
