Yelp, so I thought, delivered, but in the end it turns out I ID'd the wrong framer. Boy was I glad I picked the "wrong" one...Artistic Expert Picture Framing was a great find! It's a bit out of my way, but worth the trip. I've brought several items here for framing and every time, I leave happy. I'm no framing expert by any means, and because of that I need a framer who's got a good eye and flair for taking me beyond just a black frame. Rudopho takes a look at everything I bring in, asks me where I'm thinking of putting it, thinks, and comes up with an "out there" suggestion and a conservative suggestion. More often than not, his out there suggestion is spot on and the end result looks amazing. In all honesty, what I get framed costs considerably less that what it costs to get framed, but the framing I get done adds significant aesthetic value to what I bring in to Artistic Expert Picture Framing. Rodolfo asked some questions about my Mom's sense of style and used that to come up with styles that he thought she would like. We worked together making decisions to keep the project within my budget and in under a week I had a beautiful framed family portrait! I finally got around to getting three of my art pieces framed. Two were egyptian paintings on papyrus from Cairo and one was an antique japanese woodblock print from Tokyo. Rodolfo helped me tremendously--he is extremely creative, artistic and professional. I feel I am quite artistic myself, but he showed me options for my pieces that I would have never considered. This is by far one of the best frame shops I have ever worked with! I am a working artist and need pieces framed all the time. I came into artistic picture framing looking to find something for two original movie posters that ive been needing framed for a while now. I had only done custom framing once before, but the manager (Drew) was quick to calm my nerves and show me a variety of beautiful moulding options within my modest price range! I was actually very surprised by the amount of quality options I had to choose from. My posters also had some awkward neon colors that I thought were a little distracting, but with an artistic eye and careful designing, they were not only able to compliment the colors in my posters but also enhance the feeling and as Drew put it... the "vibe"! Two hours 'til the pictures had to be displayed at the wedding ceremony in Milpitas. I rushed in with my enlargements and mumbled something to the effect of, "I need these framed and I can't afford a whole lot and I need them done in in an hour and they need to be great but simple, elegant but not gaudy, tasteful but out of the ordinary, straightforward but not bland and sorry my mind's thinking a million different things right now" all in one breath - which was already short from running down the street from elephant pharmacy (where I had the pictures developed - excellent by the way). Hearing myself ramble on like that made me realize how crazy I must've sounded - demanding what I deemed to be the near-impossible. Boy was I wrong. With a warm smile and a welcoming sweep of the arms, Rodolfo reassures me that all will be well and that he will take care of me. And take care of me he did! He went right to work, asking for my constant input because he didn't want anything I didn't want. When it was clear I was lost as to which colors would fit the background of the picture without compromising contrast while matching the frame but not washing the picture out...he gently stepped in with a few suggestions, some words of encoruagement and off we were again. He was working so fiercely that he had to put off his sweater. I was surprised by the sweat and blood he was putting into the work - he made it so personal that I almost felt bad. In fact, at one point I muttered something like "I'm so sorry for being a difficult customer" to which he quickly replied with reassurance, almost hurt that I would feel that way - it was no problem at all. When the dust had settled and the pieces lain in my hands - the brief quiet of admiration was rewarding for both of us. Out the door I went with two of the most beautifully framed engagement photos ever. What I appreciated most was his eye for art and color, texture and product. Though he is an expert and master at his skill, never once did he brush my opinions aside or leave me in the dust. Rather carried me along, always asking my thoughts, always having me give my input, at one point even telling me not to hesitate in shooting down his ideas because this WAS, in fact, my photographic art work, not his. At the wedding, I received many a compliment for my photos but no less for the beautiful framing and art that embraced them. I'm grateful to Rodolfo. I sit here writing the review with this single image in mind: As I walked out of the shop with a sheepish word of awed gratitude - Rodolfo, with sweat glistening off his forehead, gave me a nod and a word of encouragement with the same warmth and composure as he had when I first came into the store - as I raced off to the wedding, on time. Sorry if I have the name wrong, but I think it was Drew (master framer) who helped me out in a big way! We bought an antique mirror on Etsy and after a few months of it being on our wall, we came home to find it shattered on our bedroom floor. Thank god the bassinet wasn't there! The mounting from Etsy was a POS and after getting the mirror replaced at Berkeley Glass, my wife and I were at a loss for how to get this thing mounted again. On a whim we took it to Artistic Picture Framing and Drew took care of installing a new mount on the mirror with his confidence that it would work. A few weeks later it works like a charm. Rudolfo was friendly and the work was good but I felt like I got ripped off after buying the $100 for $50 deal. Got suckered in!

Excellent quality work. Rudolpho really knows his stuff and makes excellent suggestions pertaining to what color & style of mat & frame to use. However . . . waaayyy too expensive & you won't know that until the very end! I walked in with a $100 groupon and walked out with a $600 frame job for a simple, inexpensive 16 x 20 painting! Yes, I chose the conservation glass (which didn't add much to the total cost) but I also chose a simple single mat and one of the least expensive frames. I felt I was snowballed. I brought in a very inexpensive painting with many flaws by an unknown African artist. Rudolpho & his assistant went on and on about how I needed to show off & protect such a unique, valuable piece of art. (Unique, yes. Valuable, no.) I was also unable to get a price quote for anything until everything was picked out & then Rudolpho only gave me a total sum for the entire job. When I then asked for an itemization, only then did he finally give one to me. When I called a month later about picking up the painting and Rudolpho heard that I was unhappy about the charges, he offered to frame something else for me for free (what does that say about inflated fees?) but I haven't had anything to bring in to him & received nothing in writing so I'm skeptical that the offer will really hold. If you want a superb framing job and money is no object, go here. If you're looking for good work but at a reasonable cost, throw your groupon away and go elsewhere. read more

If you are planning to save your framing cost with Groupon, don't buy it. Their framing price is almost three times as expensive as my regular frame shop's price for a frame with the same type and a size. Although I couldn't get refund from Groupon for a coupon that was $35 for $100 of framing of this "Artistic Expert Picture Framing'', I decide not order a frame to this shop, because after using the coupon of $100, I would have to pay more than the price my regular frame shop would charge without a coupon. By the way, my regular frame shop always makes fabulous frames for me so I was recommended this shop by many other artists. I don't know what kind of work this "Artistic Expert Picture Framing' do, but their materials didn't look special at all comparing to any other frame shops, rather, they have fewer selecting options. read more

I'm not sure why the rating is so high on yelp. Part of me wonders whether it's because the owner is a sponsor and seems to "respond" to any negative comments he gets. I've brought photos, diplomas, art, and even a sport jersey to get framed and they've all turned out superb. We would give Rodolfo 10 stars if we could! Here's the story. We got married a year and a half ago and had a friend create a hand-drawn wedding certificate for us, which all of our guests signed. It is a totally unique piece of art, which we co-created and which obviously holds unparalleled significance for us. Now, how do you frame something like that? We also have two collages by a professional artist whose work and friendship we treasure. So, this was quite a framing job. We had put it off for a long time, waiting to save up the money and figure out our approach. Rodolfo's Groupon offer spurred us into action. It was a fluke that we ended up going to him, but next time it will be intentional, and we're telling all our friends. Rodolfo is an artist of framing and he loves what he does. He poured his heart and soul into helping us find the right mattes and frames, and he spent all the time we needed (and it was quite a bit :-). The result was beyond our expectations and the experience was delightful! He also has a great personality and sense of humor.
