When WWII ended, my uncle, W.C. Shaver opened a barber shop on the south side of the square. He later sold it to Jack Jaggers who then sold it to Chris Durrant. From the time I was a tot, almost 50 years ago, I had my hair cut there. Now, I have returned home after being gone for over 20 years and I needed a barber., they being one of the last bastions of manliness. As I entered I received a friendly greeting and invitation to an open chair. Jerry, asked me what he could do for me and got to work. In the midst of the conversation we discovered that he knew me and my father from many years ago and had cut my hair (when I had more of it) in the past. A trim up with a nice taper and hot lather shave of the neck and around the ears with a straight razor. You just can't get that at a salon. Men should go to a barber shop, not a salon.
