East West Martial Arts LLC - Parking is challenging and frustrating. Classes are ending just as another class starts. Notice you can only observe through the doors.

In addition, plan to pay quarterly for new belts and testing. The testing I've seen is the same for the past 2 belts so not sure what my kid learned new that required 2 new belts when he did the same requirements for each belt. Parents can't wait inside to sit and watch their kiddos. They have a zoom that you can join but it's one camera and you can barely see if it's your own child so no point in the zoom. When asked why parents can't wait inside, especially in the winter and rainy months, they told me that having all the parents would exceed the building's occupancy capacity... this is questionable as there is plenty of space. I was also told to not distract students. An easy solution is to not black out your windows so that parents standing outside can spread out and observe from outside. Another solution is rotate which days parents can come in. Tues / Thursday can have 1/2 parents observe from inside while other 1/2 observe from outside on Tuesdays and rotate on Thursdays. The only way to watch your child is through the double doors which needs to be cleared so people can go in and out. Most parents are unable to observe and are left waiting inside their vehicles for 30 - 40 minutes. Parking is also difficult. I regret signing a membership.

They have taught her self confidence, pride, discipline, and endurance. She started out shy and very introverted, and is now very commanding of presents but in a good way. She finally interacts with others, and can handle things that were out of her comfort zone. We recommend East West to anyone's child, especially children who need to come out of their shell. It has done her wonders.

And just as important, he creates an atmosphere of support where everyone supports everyone in their progress. This is the norm for ISKF dojos but SWWSKC feels like a family, going out to share a meal together on Monday nights. It is a club, not a for profit school. This means the instructors are donating their time in order to share their knowledge and experience of the art they love and have spent a lifetime studying. In addition, it means quarterly dues are low ($165 every 3 months). The sensai is an internationally recognized karate practitioner. Senior students (some with decades of experience in martial arts) drive an hour and half or more for the instruction offered by Sensai. I joined the club about 8 months and couldn't be happier. It is truly a community. I have made wonderful new friends and we get together as a group for drinks and dinner at least once a week.

If you compare them to other martial arts places in the area, there are many, more professional, knowledgeable, and safe places. The tuition is very high for the quality of what is presented. They cram as many students as they can and blare music to try to distract from the disarray. Additionally, there are constant fees in addition to tuition. Every 3 months all the kids graduate to the next level regardless of skill proficiency. A new belt is awarded every 4 months and there is a mandatory $40 fee ($50 if you're late) for graduation. That adds up to $160 extra just in graduation fees each year. While there are some consistent older people that work there, the younger trainers work hands on the most. They are noticeably less invested. My child was injured in class today and the trainers would not let her rest. The owner and operators at East West do not value the safety of children. I would highly recommend you research martial arts studios around the area before committing to thousands of dollars a year.

I was really unimpressed with the form and footwork of the students and concerned that setting this as the foundation for my son's training would lead to disadvantages later on. The school got our number from an event and they keep calling us. We have asked them to stop calling several times and they keep doing it. Very unprofessional, unethical, and sloppy. Not what people should be looking for in a martial arts school.
