He couldn't tell me the exact details, just that they were serious charges. A coworker recommended Mark Sutton to me, and Mark got straight to work: he found out I was being charged with two counts of malicious wounding, rescheduled my surrender date so he could go with me, and immediately secured a bond so I could bail right out. ​Once I knew what was going on, I thought, "I can prove I wasn't even in the state when this happened! I don't need a lawyer--I'll just explain it, show proof, and it'll be easy." I couldn't have been more wrong. Navigating the legal system was a nightmare, and I saw pretty quickly that without proper representation, the truth alone wasn't going to save me.
