I didn't think much of it until I finally went there last night to watch La La Land. and holy moly, it's impressive! The theatre itself has several auditoriums, but it's only auditorium one that is that big and offers the gorgeous half dome ceiling! Definitely worth it! P.S. and of course no need for me to tell you to buy your own candy and soda from elsewhere because well 1) we're in a movie theatre and 2) it's in Norway, so you'd basically pay 700 dollars for a piece of gum. :P

It has that very old-timey feel. The main crowd here is well over 50 and hence, the theatre tends to be quite quiet, unless one of the elderly forgets to turn off their phone and it rings during the movie and they either can't find it or can't figure out how to make it stop ringing. But aside from that and the hacking cough that old smokers seem to contract and do at the most innappropriate times, as well as the occasional person snoring, it is quiet. Either way, the noises they make are a lot less annoying than the immature teenager who is screaming to their friend 13 rows back or the stuck up little girls who watch every single person walk in and have something rude to say about them. However, I would still choose Ringen over this place anyday, even though you can drink wine at Gimle. Drinking is not fun unless you are in a setting where it would be acceptable to get drunk. I would choose Gimle over Colosseum however, because Gimle, at least, has little tables to put stuff on. The geniuses that built Colosseum and every other theatre in Norway, it seems, (except Ringen) just figured that people would want to put their consumables on the ground. The seats here are not as raised as the more modern theatres so for the first time in a long time, I had to fold my legs under my butt to get a little boost so that the main attraction was not some giant head. Also, to only have two stalls in the bathroom is ridiculous. A woman never has to use the bathroom as bad as when she is at a movie. To top it off, one of the toilets would not flush so when I was there, there was only one woman's toilet working. I will return though once some other 1920-1940 based book turned movie is on the screen here.

Ringen Kino (FYI it's pronounced Shino for those of you that don't speak Norwegian) is the first…read moremovie theatre we've visited since moving to Oslo. I have to say it's awesome, and much different than the states, in a great way! So the way it worked is you buy your tickets in advance and you're assigned seating, that's a great thing because you don't have to show up early to try and get a decent spot. I think the tickets for our 4pm show were like 110 kr each, not a bad deal. Where the huge difference came in was the concessions, it was an actual store, kinda like a mini mart, the popcorn is in warmers waiting for you to grab, you grab your own drinks, candy, bulk candy etc. And it was good prices! We each had a drink, a big popcorn and candy for 200ish kr. In the states all that stuff would have been around $50 at a movie theatre. The movie theatre it's self was decent size and had very comfy seats in a stadium type seating layout, so no problems with big heads blocking the views. We saw an action movie so I can confirm the sound system is one of quality. We live right across from this place so we definitely will be frequent visitors. I suggest you check it out and see what you think!

Isn't that an essential for any kino? The munchies are the same as the rest of them. I don't like the Oslo kino munchies. There has to be sweet popcorn!!!! Why don't they know this ? However, i did notice people "smuggling" in their own food stuff which i think is cool especially when you pay 130kr per ticket for a movie.
