There is everything from fine oils to watercolors to pottery to clothing to jewelry (they carry NO mignon faget). There is something for just about everyone here. There was no hard sells and the staff was very knowledgeable about the artists and their art. There is even a space in the back for an artist in residence to paint while visitors watch. No one was painting on the sleepy Thursday morning when I stopped in but the easel and a work in progress were set up.

This is a must see if you find yourself in Ocean Springs…read more There are a few things you should know about me when you read my reviews. Without knowledge of who I am, and what I like, you may not understand why I like what I like. You also won't know if you should discount my reviews as the ramblings of a self-centered lunatic, or if you should maybe give them some weight when making a decision. So I preface this review by dropping some knowledge about me that may help you. I love folk art, funky art, and art created by folks influenced by the MS Gulf Coast. I don't know if I would describe Walter Anderson's stuff as folk art or funky art, but he was most definitely influenced by this area that I happen to love. It's not what I would describe as fancy pants or highfalutin, but it is most definitely my kind of art. Realizations is chock full of Walter Anderson originals. There are books of prints, postcards, clothing, bookmarks, large scale prints, and everything else you can think of. Pieces range from a few dollars for a card or bookmark to more expensive for some of the lager pieces. On my most recent trip I picked up some bookmarks for myself and to give as a gift (I'm a classy dude). I suspect there will be several more trips in my future as well. You made it this far? Nice! Now get your butt to this shop.

The longtime "farmer" with the largest produce stand is again third time - selling seriously poor…read morequality if not trash veg. I choose to try to buy what I assume is fresh, they state with a significant degree of huff, locally grown produce. I drive here to do it. And now, I again find I have been taken. I see the rotten peppers, tomatoes, on display. Note it, pick more carefully always which is a stinking shame. But you try to support this idea. Bought sweet corn, was admonished for opening one, so stopped and just picked out half dozen. Every single ear was moldy. Every one. And if when people ask questions of the main fella (cash farmer fella) We weren't met with arrogant attitude about why are you asking that, or do you THINK I grow that! I guess I would be less fed up? This is not freshly grown and harvested as is boasted, or by goodness there's a bigger problem! Seeing very rotten tomatoes. Peppers, etc should not be happening? You set up THAT morning!! Like an hour ago! It's a scam but it's all we have this feels like. Either manage the produce as you should, bring on lackeys who get placing leaking soft smelly produce out us a joke, and clean up this stand. It's awful. It's not what is advertised. And it's every single week. Being the only game in town shouldn't cause lousy quality as the standard? I want to know exactly where this stuff is grown. Period. I don't want to smoosh my way through way past selling produce that someone just placed in front of us? QUANTITY DOES NOT MEAN QUALITY- what a shame both the community standard and the ocean springs markets standards are so low-- well we've always done it this way hold no water, it's indulging a group that is not keeping up their end of a bargain. And I get, buyer beware , there are some obvious good items to purchase, but more often than not, it is just way past selling times lately. Be transparent- be honest-be polite or retire and let other smaller vendors sell actually local produce?

Gallery 220 is my favorite art gallery…read more For those that know me, you know that the idea of me perusing an art gallery is quite humorous. I don't frequent traditional art galleries, but Gallery 220 is anything but traditional. It's unique, casual, reasonable and more of a shared space where many different artists can sell their creations. Inside the shop there are six or seven different areas. While all are cool, there are three that stand out to me. The first is immediately to your left when you walk in. That area has art created from metal and wood scraps that Is industrial looking while still having a homemade look to it. The best items there are their magnets with metal hearts affixed to wooden blocks. No two are alike and they are very reasonable. The next area I really like is along the left wall towards the rear of the front room. That area has art that focuses on local sea life. My favorite painting was one of a crab, but it was a little rich for my blood. Last, but most certainly not least is the area in the back room. There you'll find the custom ceramic artist that recreated the facades of local and New Orleans businesses and landmarks. There were famous Nola restaurants like Commanders Palace, all the local cities, and even that bullshit school Jesuit. These ceramic pieces were remarkably accurate and were very reasonable. If you are in downtown BSL, you owe it to yourself to stop here.
