My kids LOVED the Harry Potter summer camp week! The only thing that would have made it better was if it was an all day camp rather than half day. The kids kept saying that they wanted to have it go longer, and they also wanted to know if they could do it for another week. They were sad to find out that there wouldn't be any more opportunities for HP camp this summer. The camp was well structured and had lots of very fun activities. I found this place almost 3 years ago now while looking for new classes at the Campbell Community Center. Boy am I glad I did. Erinn and Christine are always so helpful and friendly. I take the pottery wheel classes once a week and Will the instructor is always patient with us. He wants to make sure you really understand what you are doing and that you are having fun. I also enjoy coming on my free time and getting practice. I have also recently taken a mosaics class too which was a lot of fun. read more

Thanks for your response . However the energy and enthusiasm was just not there amongst your instructors. We were not looking for a refund of the fees but a fun camp which was amiss. Yes, the next time you have a camp I think there should be more training that goes into it because you are getting children who have not attended your program ever before. We where here for a 4 year old birthday party, and we had a great time!! there where like 20 little kids on the party, and they kept everyone entertained and happy. They have a playroom in the back which kept them busy in between the project stages, they got to choose from a couple different projects and my son made a birdhouse, they also had many color options to use and little jewels and things to stick to their projects, loved it!. I visited The Art Beat when my young son was invited to attend a friend's birthday party a few weeks ago. There was a large group of children and they had a great time. They began with dress-up play in the back room, then donned aprons and had an art lesson on how to make pinch pot ceramic animals. They made their animals, painted them, played vigorously in the back room some more, then enjoyed a delicious ice-cream cake. It was a great event and the teacher and staff were very attentive. We had our daughters birthday party here and I have to say what a great place to throw a party. The kids had so much fun and the all the people who worked there were extremely nice especially the owner. She was very professional and made sure the kids were having fun. She also made a poster that said Happy Birthday with my daughters name and had all the kids write and draw pictures on it for memory keepsake. This is the only place of all its competitors that was catered to our needs. I wanted to make sure that parents of all the kids were able to come for the party and they said no problem. I called a few other places and all of them said only few parents are allowed. That is not how you treat customers so I am greatful that The Art Beat cared to make us happy! Went here a few weeks ago, and it was great. They had a wide selection of pottery - mugs, birdhouses, cups, etc. I went with a standard mug. Every single color I could have needed was there at their little paint section. Using the 50% off yelp deal, the price ended up being $28ish for a mug and a cup. I haven't really been to other places like this, so I thought it was pretty good deal. The people are friendly, and as soon as we came back to get our painted items, they recognized us. It took a little less than a week to finish firing our items. It seemed as though they run art classes as well - so those could be worthwhile in checking out. Overall, a very pleasant experience, and next time I get a craving for expressing my artistic side this will be my first option. read more

This is an awesome place to go with your kid to enjoy some creative time together. The staff are very helpful and low key. And there is a better variety of projects than at Petroglyph. We especially loved the mosaic projects. You can also learn to use the ceramic wheel. The staff really seem to understand how to encourage kids' creativity. read more

My kids participated in the afternoon art camp as well this summer. Exactly the same as previous review but for us it was very disappointing. I felt the kids did very little and it was really expensive. They came back with: a painted bag, one painted plate, a frame and 3 little painted shapes with beads. For 3 hours x 5 days = 15 hours, I expected a lot more. They didn't learn anything as well. I was very unhappy to hear that on the last day, they didn't do any special arts as the teachers had to "clean up". As a comparison my son participated in an art camp at the YMCA last year and they did so much more, learned about art and brought so many different projects. I would not recommend this place. read more

We came in to the art beat to get our 6-month old daughter's hand prints in clay. The owner, Erin, was really helpful and friendly and helped us through the process. It turned out so beautifully we also made hand and footprints on some mugs, and those turned out great as well. The whole process was very enjoyable and very reasonably priced and the quality of the product is excellent. We also loved that it was a locally-owned art studio where you get personalized attention. This is not a typical go paint your piece of ceramic and take it home place. Although they offer that service also, it offers so much more. They have classes for children and adults. My child took a drawing class here, and she loved it. They also have potters wheels that seem to be popular. I've gone in there with my family and did clay sculptures that were then fire hardened. We went back on another and painted them. Now we have hand sculpted one-off creations sitting on our mantle. Staff is very helpful with showing us how to use the tools and teaching us a few techniques. Now we know where to go to make unique Christmas presents for our family and friends. read more

Just talked with the owner who set up the deal with yelp and cannot believe how rude she is! Last summer I bought a coupon from yelp for $15 worth of $30 their Open Studio Fee and Project Fee. I went to do a pottery class several weeks ago with some other women. The thing I liked most about the class with Erinn was that she taught us how to center the clay!! She was very patient with us, teaching us how to work with the wheel and the clay and how to feel when there was an air bubble. We are going back next week to dip our pieces. My daughter attended Ultimate Art Camp this summer at The Art Beat. The description billed it as an opportunity to learn about things like clay, pastels, painting. I think that they do cool projects at The Art Beat, but I would call them craft projects. My daughter was consistently disappointed that she was required to do things in a certain way. Every child's painting looked pretty much identical, for example. Why can't they be taught some painting techniques and then paint what they like? Instead they went step-by-step through how to paint *this particular painting*. Looked perfectly nice, but maybe not what every kid wanted to paint. Isn't art supposed to include inspiration, as well as skill? She cried when they took a different painting she had made and folded it into a bag. She had had a vision for what she wanted to do with it, and they did not even ask her permission, or tell her what *their* vision was. Everyone was nice and well-intentioned. I am not trying to say that I think that kids should get to do whatever they want. I had just expected that an art education experience would teach art techniques *and* to value creativity. Every kid painting identical paintings feels as though creativity is being discouraged instead. Great place to do crafts, but maybe not exactly art. read more

The Art Beat is a fun and unique way to spend a rainy afternoon. They have wet clay that you can mold, as well as pre-made, dry ceramics that you can paint. Most of the staff who work there are pretty friendly, but minus one star for the owner's attitude. Seems like a grouch. Barely said a word to us the first time, and not even a hello when I dropped by to pick up my pieces. She was able to turn on the charm for a birthday party that afternoon, but didn't waste any energy on smaller groups (couples). It probably won't ruin your experience, so check it out. It's just a pet peeve of mine when business owners act too snobby for their own good. read more

I hed a party for my soon to be 4 year old at the Art Beat. What an experience! Erin and her assistant were fantastic! You get 2 hours with your package, but we bought an extra hour because we didn't want to have any of our guests pick up the art pieces later, due to the pieces needing to be sealed. The party went like clockwork! We started at 11:30am and we had 15 kids. The place was entirely for our party. The kids picked out their projects. They painted and then all washed their hands after they were done. The best part of this facility was a backroom where the kids could play dress up of other activities while the other kids were still painting. After the rest of the kids finished paintig, my husband had just dropped off the pizzas and we all started eating. If kids were done eating, they went back to the backroom while the parents continued to eat. After the meal, erin and her assistant had already laid out part B of the project which was apply decorative pieces onto the already dried art projects. Again, if the kids were done applying the decorative pieces, they went to the backroom while waiting for the other kids. Afterwards, I had the cake cutting and as the kids were eating cake or playing in the back, erin and her assistant were in the back sealing the projects, so that they would be ready for the parents to leave on time and with their finished pieces. Erin and her assistant were right on time and all the parents could say to me was that this was such a wonderful experience and a great idea to have a bday party. I can't thank art beat enough! my 4 year old was extremely happy because she not only got to play with her friends, but she had the opportunity to get creative. I highly recommend this facility for any bday party for kids. This place is VERY kid friendly, unlike other art facilities. I would definitley do this again! read more

Art Beat is one of the nicest and friendliest places to take an art/pottery class or just stop by to paint a chosen piece from their rich display of offerings. I've been going to this place consistently over the past 8 years and absolutely love it. First, I've taken adult pottery and can't say enough great things about Erin or Bill. My kids have taken classes and attended art camps and loved them all. We go back for open studio, clay hand building and pottery painting and it's always a thrill. When my mom was in town, I signed her up for a mosaic class and she absolutely enjoyed the class! We can't wait to do more at the Art Beat! It sets such a great and artistic contrast to Campbell downtown filled with restaurants and shops.
