Aromas Chinese Restaurant - 4 stars
Great food (including excellent crayfish), convenient location, but mediocre service.
Our family of four adults shared the following dishes:
1) crayfish in ginger and spring onion sauce (delicious!) (note, they can also do two other preparations of crayfish upon request)
2) tiger prawn with chilies (tasty!)
3) corn and chicken soup (great, though we had to add a bit of salt, pepper, and chili sauce)
4) chicken chowmein (great!)
5) steamed pork dumplings (okay, but our least favorite item)
The service was a bit disappointing. They brought out all of our dishes at once, rather than staggering them, which we didn't like since the mains started to get cold while we ate our starters. Also, they didn't bring us knives (essential for eating the crayfish) until we asked. Also, they had facial tissues available instead of napkins, which was strange and inconvenient (especially since tissues are so small and can't be spread in one's lap).
The restaurant's location on Kaikoura's main strip was certainly convenient.
Overall, great food, but the service could stand to improve! read more
