On the Autostrada from Venice to Ljunljana you will find one Autogrill on the north side of the…read moreroad and one on the south. The Autogrill is the Italian version of a truck stop, but way better. Beyond the gas, cigarettes and coffee, they sell a huge array of local Italian-made goods, like cheese, wine, etc. All decent quality stuff, the non-export kind that real Italians with local taste buy. But even beyond these good are the hot prepared foods, and in particular, the lasagna which is made fresh hourly during peak times. Don't miss this lasagna. After getting taken advantage of in Venice with high-priced and often mediocre food, this lasagna will take your breath away in quality and price. In our case, it was practically melting on the plate. The cheese, tomato sauce to noodle ratio was exceptional and the noodles were not overcooked and stodgy. If you are two, pair with a tuna side salad and some drinks. (Just don't fight over the lasagna.) We were so blown away about how good this "gas station" food was that we are still talking about it now. Of course this may not rival your best meal in Italy, so let's not compare. Instead, remember, this is gas station food, and on that level, it's as good as it gets, and better than most any other gas station food you'll dig up the world wide. Good luck!
