The former Carlisle pediatrician, now photographer, is capturing striking examples of the area, animals, and nature in his art show at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center. My favorite photo is the capture of the majestic eagle. Dr. Rosario's art show ends August 2. Free parking on Saturday at the Comfort Inn parking lot across the street from CALC. No admission fee to view current exhibits at the Carlisle Arts Learning Center.

The staff was very nice and informative, but not hovering. During a second visit, their display on the second floor was very educational regarding historical facts about the areas minority situations and happenings. Full disclosure: I am the parent of a newly-admitted DC Freshman. I also was accepted years ago at…read morethe Dickinson School of Law, which is un-related to DC but sits at the edge of its campus. As such, I've been to Carlisle a number of times over the past 30 years, both as a prospective law student and as the parent of a DC student. Here's my "review" of Dickinson College and the surrounding town/area... Beautiful campus, strong alumni network, including extremely successful alums like the CEO/President of LL Bean. Numerous awards for being a top-rated college as to sustainability. Responsive staff. Small student to teacher ratio. Encourages students to find their passion, so interesting combinations of double majors and majors/minor abound, and students don't declare their major until Jr year, I believe. Encourages study abroad and for a somewhat unique statistic I think, Dickinson states that 60% of its student athletes do so, with the coaches' encouragement! Dickinson is what it appears to be, "family" to its alumns and students. Extremely supportive all-around. Location is close to Harrisburg, the Commonwealth's capital, as well as an easy 1.75 hour ride to Phila area (85 miles in my case!) as a straight shot down the PA Turnpike! One comment stated this is a boring school with nothing to do. That's ridiculous. There are attractions within an easy drive, _lots_of activities on campus, and a growing diversity of students. And, to callously call the surrounding area as being full of "red-necks" is nonsense. As a former diversity trainer with a major Fortune50 company and within the USCG Aux, that statement really jolted me. The folks in Carlisle may be more rural in background than say someone from a city or a suburb near a city, but they are welcoming and friendly. Judging an entire community based on some interaction had with one or two (perhaps) is simply unfair to the community as a whole). Go Red Devils! PS To YELP: Why the heck would you NOT recommend the 3 "Not Recommended" 5-star reviews that were well-written, thoughtful and gave details upon which the reviews were based? And, from both students and parents! I don't get it! If they were included, DC would have a near 5-Star rating which is more in-line with what I've experienced via the many alumns I've met, both at DC functions AND by pure chance in the "big outside world" where they had no reason to be biased in their view...i.e. I met them via normal, everyday encounters via my job, etc!

I had a hard time feeling at home at church until I entered the doors of Linglestown Life back in 2013. After coming here for the first time back then, we've never gone anywhere else. So happy to call this our church home. I'm spiritually fed each week by the messages and moved by the beautiful music. The children and youth program is great for my kids too! Come give it a try! Hershey Christian Academy should be ashamed of themselves! For $7k a year for pre school. You…read morearen't heard, the principals grand daughter is in pre k as well half the week, and thinks if her shy granddaughter who doesn't engage with anyone, doesn't have boys touching her butt, exposing themselves to her, or calling her a butt hole and baby, that it probably isn't happening! Wow just wow!!!My pre schooler has been a target of bullying daily. School refuses to let me sit in even though I completed my child clearances and everything that they needed. My child has never gotten timeout or disciplined in school ever. She is very kind. We've had trouble with the kids who get time out almost daily, but yeah, today with no warning my daughter was just kicked out of Hershey Christian Academy effective immediately. Not even a goodbye, not even giving her her stuff. My daughter who has done nothing But been an amazing learner and helper and lover at the school is the one who ends up getting severely punished. I would never recommend the school to absolutely anybody!!!

Both are very easy to talk to about any issues that you may have or just chitchat about anything. They take the time to train the teachers the correct way. Whether you are dropping off or picking up one of them is always here. The Assistant Director has been with the company for over 10 years at another location. In all the times I dropped off and picked up I never once saw a single one who ever seemed genuinely happy while interacting with a child. One teacher in my oldest sons room would actually borderline yell at some of the kids, I personally observed this on multiple occasions. One day during drop off she snapped a very rude remark in a much louder and harsher tone than normal conversation at my son because he attempted to get out some toys which they had already apparently cleaned up prior to his arrival. As he was supposed to know this? Through all the hot August days I would pick them up off the playground and they would be hot and sweated with no water bottles. The water bottle I packed would be empty back inside their cubbies in their rooms. I commented on it one day and a teacher replied "we'd be going back and forth to the bathroom constantly if everyone had water bottles". Apparently taking already potty trained kids to the bathroom is too much to ask? The icing on the cake which led to immediately withdrawing from the center was when my oldest son came home with a hand print on his arm. He was 4 and no longer napped, however the 4-5 year old classroom had a 2 hour nap time each afternoon where they expected him to sit and play quietly on a cot. For 2 whole hours. He struggled with this, as I'm sure most 4 year old boys would and they didn't want to put the effort into finding a solution. One day he came home and told me about how the teacher that day was mad at him for not being quiet during nap time so she grabbed his arm very hard and made him sit in a time out chair in the corner. When questioned she said she gently led him to another area. Gentle enough to leave a handprint, I guess..... We paid almost $1000/month for him to attend UGRO and they actually asked me to pack him a bag of quiet things to do during nap time so he wouldn't disrupt the other kids. Total lack of desire to foster kids development and growth. Do NOT waste your time looking at this facility. The director is kind and sweet and you will think it's a great place but do not be fooled. The staff are absolutely terrible and could care less about your child.

BUT i transferred away from here and then came back. bc this little hellhole is my home and my rightful place. i don't think anyone truly loves it here. i think we just like the campus community too much to leave. the dorms are amazing but expensive. the wifi is crap. Today, I visited the CCA AgWorks and toured their facilities for soilless farming, which was…read moreamazing to say the least! I'm so impressed by the farming they are doing and hands-on learning opportunities they are giving to children in the area. The AgWorks facility is handicap accessible and they sell their food to local restaurants and businesses, so children get exposure to soilless farming AND business. Not only do the farming techniques for aquaphonics and hydroponics sustain the "crops", the solar panels on the building provide enough energy to power the lab. This place was a completely hidden gem.
