I sent a request on Yelp for help with a garage door repair. I received a couple responses via the Yelp app; however Armstrong Garage Doors was the only business to call and leave a voicemail. In the voicemail the technician said he would be in my area within a day or two to service another home so he wouldn't mind stopping by afterwards to come and provide a free quote. We had already received another quote from another business that charged a service fee just for coming out. Based on that, I agreed for him to come check out the garage. He assessed the issue and provided a quote that was significantly cheaper than what the previous business had quoted us. We recently had our garage door break for the second time in two years. We had the original company put in a new garage door and motor and continued to have issues with the door until it finally went off the rails...literally. Call the company to find that they were out of business (no surprise) so was frantically searching for a new place to repair the door since it wouldn't shut and our garage was exposed. I stumbled across Armstrong Garage Doors and Will. He was able to come out the day of the break and close the door until he was able to come back the following day to repair the entire thing. Thankfully, we didn't need a new door, just a new motor that was a proper fit for the door we had been sold. I highly recommend Armstrong Garage Doors if you need a repair or an install. Got up and left the house like any morning, but came home early around noon to find out my garage door wasn't opening. When I got inside and took a look, I noticed the one large spring that supports our double unit single garage door has split in half. Since we are renting our home, I notified the landlord immediately, but due to the cold weather and the fact that our drive way is a steep hill, I started looking into getting someone out right away on my own. I first called the company that installed and serviced the doors for the owners. Normally they are "quick" to help, but this time i was told they were unavailable until Friday late afternoon at the earliest and it was now only Tuesday at noon. This wasn't going to work for me. So I got a price quote from them and began calling many other places. Most places I called were definitely able and willing to come out this day within 12-24 hours of me calling, but their prices were easily $200 - $300 more than what our normal service provider quoted. So I kept on looking until I came across Armstrong. I spoke directly with the owner. He assured me he could not only get it done same day, but it would only be 30 mins max to repair and that he would do it for only $15 more than what our normal provider would charge without knowing what their rate was. He was also willing to work with my landlord to get paid so i wouldn't have to go out of pocket for the broken spring. So not only was Armstrong over the phone the BEST rate, but he was understanding to the situation and was willing to make the fix! When he arrived onsite and saw the steepness of the driveway, he couldn't for the ilfe of him understand why the normal service provider wouldn't have make an exception and come that day knowing the current weather conditions and the home itself. With the icy conditions in the forecast, trying to get in and out of my car on my steep driveway is an extremely dangerous task especially for my two little children. When they arrived onsite, he was courteous, he was respectful and he was fast to get to work and complete his task. He was extremely friendly and we felt safe in trusting his workmanship. He cleaned up after himself and handled the request and the repair extremely fast and with excellence. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND their services to ANYONE!!! read more

I randomly picked Armstrong off of Yelp listings, as my garage door opener broke yesterday and I saw that they appeared to be in my part of town (SW), thinking they'd be more likely to be able to fix me up the same day that I called. I called and left a message at ~7:30 AM, and received a return call within an hour. The technician was at my front door probably an hour or so later. Quick! I didn't know what was wrong with my unit, other than being able to see that the chain was hanging low with lots of slack; attempts to trigger the door would result in something spinning in the opener but no chain movement. The technician took a look at it and was able to tell me the root cause: the spring had lost tension such that it was not pulling up against the door strongly enough anymore (he demonstrated this by showing how hard it was allowing the door to slam down), resulting in enough chain tension that it sheared off a little sprocket gear in the opener (he found the gear itself on the floor a few feet away). He told me how much it would cost to fix the opener's sheared off sprocket. He said that the spring I had (which he correctly guessed had been put in within the no so distant past...2-3 years ago, in this case) was a galvanized 'lifetime' spring that they do not like and stopped installing, as they lose tension and need to be adjusted every few years. He said they could adjust it to get it tense enough again...just like $30 for that. He siad that would work well, but that I should check tension (via the door drop test) periodically, as it would likely need such an adjustment every 2-3 years. I asked what they installed today if not the galvanized ones, and he said the older plain (non galvanized) springs, which would go longer (~10 years) without issue. I asked how much a new spring was as well (189, if I recall). Given that there would be a minimum charge (greater than the $30 adjustment) for such changes down the road, I figured I'd bite the bullet now and have them install a new spring right now. The work was done quickly; perhaps 45-60 minutes and he was finished. He was a very friendly guy and took the time to explain what the problem was, and seemed very honest and did not give me any sort of hard sell: his original suggestion was the $30 adjustment route, rather than the markedly more expensive (spring replacement) I ended up requesting. Given that the equipment is now 10 years old, I half expected the company to try to upsell me on a new opener, giving me a pitch about the design life of these units, blah blah. Not this guy -- he said this unit was high quality (a standard 1/3 hp Chamberlain chain drive, just the original builder-installed unit) and was very well installed with good bracing, and would be great after being fixed. Fast, friendly, honest, no hard sell...if something happens down the road, I'll ring these guys. read more

Armstrong doors came out and replaced the full spring. The one the home builder used was cheap, and they don't use that kind anymore. It took a little longer, because he was not expecting to do a full replacement, and not all of the parts were available. Showed up on time and the install was completed quickly. read more
