From the owner: From the Executive Director:…read more The Arts & Science Center is an intersection of arts, science, and performing arts--bringing people together for exhibitions, hands-on art and science activities, theater, and music--serving as a cultural gathering place for people who might, otherwise, never cross paths. Think of The Center as a magnet for creativity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning. Art exhibitions feature the work of Arkansas artists, art of the Delta, and art by African American artists. Community gathers to meet the artists at openings where ArtKrewe volunteers host receptions in the tradition of true Southern hospitality. Artists often give free art workshops during 2nd Saturday Family FunDays--exceptional opportunities to meet and learn from artists firsthand. Science exhibitions come to us through partnership in the Arkansas Discovery Network which is funded by the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation. Science exhibitions are also free and 2nd Saturday Family FunDays alternate hands-on art and science for young and old. We provide a venue and activities that encourage inter-generational learning and play. Many of our science activities originate from the best science museums in the United States: San Francisco's Exploratorium, Science Museum of Minnesota, and Oregon's Museum of Science and Industry.

Has three buildings, an old Mercantile store filled with memorabilia when cotton was king. Next is the self guided tour though a completely refurbished cotton gin, unbelievable a must see. And last is the huge cotton seed bin turned into a museum displaying old equipment from the horse and buggy days. This is a hidden Arkansas treasure and very well worth the visit. Can't believe its free. Highly recommend and well and would go back. Would give 10 stars if could.

There is also a private parking lot for the museum on that side of the street and you will find metered street parking within a reasonable walking distance. You can enter the museum from two opposing sides. The main entrance has some enticing sculptures out front and are popular with people taking pictures on. I will admit that their is not much to this museum. It is two levels of exhibits that are available to view. The first is where you will find an information booth, gift shop, meeting room and open space vacant exhibit area. The only actual exhibit on the first floor is Conspicuous Consumption: If you've got it, flaunt it! That displays antique furniture and artifacts. The second floor has the majority of the exhibits including Arkansas art, some of which you can purchase, a large native American exhibit, and the Sturgis Children's Gallery, which is pretty much a kids play area. The native American exhibit is the most detailed and where I spent the majority of my time. The knife exhibit was closed while I was there. I really wanted to see it, but oh well. Visiting the museum is 100% free, but they do offer paid tours. In addition to the inside exhibits, the tour includes a mock historic town located outdoors that has brick/wood made buildings and structures. This is a nice museum. It is pretty clean and well organized. I spent about an hour checking out the museum and walking the grounds. It is definitely a must see while in Little Rock.

Our group was told multiple times to stay 1-2 feet away from the art work and not in a professional tone. We gave up after the guards kept follow us around as if we're going to steal the art work. They come ruined the viewing experience, will not recommend to anyone.

The girl selling tickets didn't seem to like her job much but everyone else was friendly and helpful. I'm 6'4" and was able to get through pretty well, my 6'7" brother had a bit more trouble. It's definitely not the place to go if you're claustrophobic or not able to bend very well. Try the example door opening outside before you go! My son is a history fan and loves to learn about WWI and WWII so this was a favorite for him.

I'd recommend you step through the hatch templates at the museum entrance before you go. Getting through the hatches isn't easy for the non agile and the entrance ladder is pretty tight. The ship is well lit, and I thought air conditioned. Our tour guide, Joe, was marvelous. He had so many insights on serving on a sub and its operation. The tour took about an hour and was well worth doing. They also have another WW2 vintage ship there, the Hoga that was actually at Pearl Harbor. The museum is nice, especially the model of Pearl Harbor, though its indicator lights don't work.

Wow, this is an amazing fine arts museum that is FREE! Yes, complete FREE but they do take…read moredonations. The Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is treasure nestled in the heart of Little Rock, easily accessible for both locals and tourists. During my visit, they had an exhibition for Native American artists and I was pleasantly surprised by the Pablo Picasso pieces that were on loan to this museum. Beautifully curated selection of artworks in a building that I consider art itself because of the amazing design and windowed 2nd floor that overlooks Little Rock! They also offer fun, hands on courses for all types of art including painting, sculpting, and even jewelry making. I did not have time to take any courses though. I spent roughly 2 hours and was able to see everything! Whether you have a couple of hours to spare or a whole day, the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts is highly recommended for anyone with an appreciation for art. A MUST SEE destination in Little Rock!
