When I googled "butcher nearby" while visiting Cottonwood AZ, Lazy 5S came up as the first choice…read more When my GPS guided me to the Main Street address, I could find no sign of any kind, so I called. The nice guy on the other end explained that the meat was in freezers, in the back of the saddle shop, which was next door to the print shop. My first suggestion for Lazy 5S: create a big sign saying something like, "LAZY 5S MEATS INSIDE!" - otherwise I would never have found it with GPS alone. I bought a huge tenderloin, and I have to say it was the juiciest, tastiest filet mignon I had ever experienced in my life. Amazing! Unfortunately for me, I live in Brooklyn NY - but the moment Lazy 5S becomes available the way Omaha Steaks are [they're just "OK"] - I will be first in line to order!

This is the highest quality grass fed beef I could find in the area. Apparently quality matters because with no change in my diet protocol other than the source of meat, I had significant improvement after just one week of eating it daily. It's the first time since I got hit with this condition that I've had any improvement at all so this is huge. I bought a quarter of a cow and picked it up at the ranch. After seeing the lush green pastures that the cows graze on and the cleanliness of the operation, including supplementation and even how the cows are treated, it all made sense. This is not just dinner, it's therapy. Since then, I have continued to improve and honestly believe that this highly nutritious beef is the foundation for my healing. It's not only the highest quality, but it's also the best tasting beef I've ever had. I have so much gratitude for the integrity and the heart that goes in to this beef...worth every penny.

We stopped in on our last trip through Sedona, and what stood out immediately was the staff. Everyone we interacted with was genuinely nice. Not forced, not rehearsed. Just friendly in a way that makes a quick stop feel a little more relaxed. A couple of brief conversations, a few smiles, people actually acknowledging you. It's a small thing, but it sticks with you. The store itself is clean and well organized. Nothing confusing about the layout. You can get in, find what you need, and get out without wandering around wondering where anything is. Selection is solid across the board. Produce looked fresh, shelves were stocked, and there's enough variety that you're not settling for second choice items. Prices are about what you'd expect for the area. Maybe a touch higher in spots, but nothing surprising given the location. It's convenient, and sometimes that's part of the equation. Checkout was smooth, no long delays, no frustration. Just a straightforward experience from start to finish. It's not a destination grocery store, and it doesn't need to be. It's dependable, easy to navigate, and backed by people who actually seem to care a little. That alone earns it four stars.

It is about one week ago, and I am driving back to home base. My plan is to wait to eat until I got…read morehome, because (frankly), there are relatively few eateries in the area of Cornville, AZ, that I would care to spend any money at. But, as I pass by, the colorful window and LED "open" sign of Living Foods Express convinces me to turn around. Once inside the building, the minimalist decor makes me curious as to what I have actually stumbled upon. I am greeted at the front counter by Dustin, who has a friendly smile, and who laughs when I ask, "What is this place?" The short answer: a healthy fast food restaurant and snacks shop. This health oasis in the Cornville nutrition desert is located in a small shopping plaza with excellent frontage road exposure, and just enough parking space. There are two menus posted: one featuring the regular offerings, and the other boasting a few daily specials. I do not eat red meat anymore. And so, when my eyes meet the Hemp and Almond Burger (or, was it Almond and Hemp?), my mouth starts to water. "Does this have meat in it?" I ask? Dustin smiles and says, "Everything we have here is vegetarian." I'm SOLD, and place my $8 order. While I wait (about 5 minutes), I have a look around. There is some shelving with books and health snacks, a garden table with two chairs, some art hanging on the walls, and a community cork board. I spend most of my time looking at the cork board, and notice that there are business cards tacked to the board which represent a plethora of locals with niche talents. My food is ready! The see-through plastic container provides me with a glimpse of the food's colors and presentation. Again, my mouth starts to water. I thank Dustin for having opened the shop, and am already planning on eating this goodness while driving on the dirt road towards home. This particular dish begins to crumble into pieces as I attempt my first bite, but I do not mind. Eating with the fingers on my right hand, and with my left hand busy on the steering wheel, I give-up on my fork as my salad delivery system. What exactly is in the incredibly fresh-tasting and scrumptious food that I'm eating? Today, I called Dustin at the restaurant to ask. The "bun" -- Almonds, olive oil, honey, garlic, and sea salt. Combined and refined in a food processor, and dehydrated. The "patty" -- Almonds, walnuts, hemp seeds, celery, carrots, spices, and lime juice. Combined and less refined (chunkier) in a food processor. The "cheese" -- A base of macadamia nuts. The other fixins -- Romaine lettuce, Salsa, Guacamole, and Veganaisse. I am going back to Living Foods Express.
