I discovered that such person when I met Heather at the Baptist Baby Fair a few years ago. I was blown away by the sample photographs she brought to display. Not only did Heather have her work to show off, but she has a relate-able personality and a calm presence about her. I had no idea how much that would matter until I was a crazed new mom with a one week old infant who fretted over EVERYTHING. Okay, so about 20 months later, I am still the nervous wreck of a mother, slightly relaxed...just a touch. But now, 20 months later, I have a beautiful collection of photographic art proudly displayed on just about every wall within my house. Heather is super easy to work with and you can tell that she loves being a photographer. She does it with such ease. When you have an 8 month old or more recently the 19 month old who absolutely doesn't want to have their picture taken, Heather doesn't bat an eye. She is so good with children, and the mommies too. She changes things up rather quickly in order to get the most out of the session. Her sessions are a combination of your home, her studio and outdoor locations, but she'll pretty much go anywhere you would like her to if you have something in mind. She has a wonderful selection of packages to choose from whether you are doing pregnancy photos, baby's first year photos or mommy and me sessions. Even later sent a message mocking our response to that message. Customer service and professional communication are crucial factors to me, as well as basic respect. This was shockingly unprofessional, and our company will definitely not be working with this photographer. Very disappointing.

As an independent artist, perhaps the biggest fear I have is looking super amateur (see: every use…read moreof Comic Sans ever). Of course, sometimes it's an unavoidable part of the learning process. However, having someone who's done it before successfully on a very high level helping you is a huge advantage and Jared definitely fits the bill - he's both a film school grad, and a successful indie artist with a recent show at the Independent. He's a gifted director good at creating an environment where people feel comfortable, which was especially helpful for me as someone completely new to all of this. He made two wildly different music videos for me - one a riff on So You Think You Can Dance (what can I say, my roommate at the time was obsessed and it rubbed off on me), and the other being a super intricate homage to one of my favorite childhood video games. I brought him vague and crazy sounding ideas and he made them come to life in a way that didn't bankrupt me and left me with some pretty killer, professional-quality content. Not only did she teach me how to use the equipment I already owned more efficiently, but she opened my eyes to so much more as far as the type and style of photos I like to take. Yes, this was a beginner's class, but now I have more of an overall understanding. I had been doing so many wrong things for so long. She is so down-to-earth and easy to talk to. I loved the way she explained everything in layman's terms in addition to having a great guide book she provided.
