The clothing offered by Dorothy Perkins is high street priced, which is higher than most stores in Selby, but there is a market for them. Dorothy Perkins still manage to find there 'feet' within the Selby economy by offering a brand name with higher quality goods. There is a wide selection of separates for day wear and a good range for your night around town too. The staff are friendly.

So after a…read morequick nip into town I realised that M & Co is McKays rebranded and renamed; silly really as I have walked past it dozens of times and even brought a couple of tops! So why the change of name and what's different? Well Mckays used to sell Ladies fashions, children's and baby selections of clothing too; which made the ranges smaller due to floor space. The new look M & Co in Selby has concentrated on ladies fashions, and rightly so; ladies wear needs far more space to give a decent selection. Personally I would have liked to have seen a separate children's wear store in Selby as there is a dire need for one. The children's and baby clothing can be found in the larger stores. The Selby branch offers ladies separates, dresses and coats in sizes 8 to 18 with its plus size range from 18 to 28. There is a good range now in casual clothing, work wear and evening dress. There is a fair selection of bags, belts and costume jewellery. M & Co offer very competitive clothing making them probably one of the cheapest brands on the high street.

Bon Marche is situated on Gowthorpe a few doors down from Woolworth's. The store opened a couple of…read moreyears ago and seems to have been welcomed by the residents of Selby. It is quite a large branch of the national company offering quite an extensive range of ladies separates, coats, sleep wear and some lingerie. It has to be said that Bon Marche is very affordable with jumpers easily found for under £20 and Coats start for under £30, so you can see there are bargains. The only draw back is a lot of the clothing is aimed at an older market of say 50 plus, but that doesn't mean that there are not some good classic items for every ones wardrobe. The size range is wide and caters well for oversize which is completely missed by the rest of Selby. Bon Marche has a good reward card system and an exclusiveness that offers card holder special reductions.

I would say that Greenwoods Menswear is aimed at more distinguished men with ranges in day, formal and office wear. I think the thing that sets Greenwoods above the rest is their formal hire wear, which has now been re-branded as the 1860 Formal Hire. As a family we have Hired suits for two weddings where my husband was Best Man and required top hats and tails. Not only where the suits of excellent quality and a reasonable price but fit well too.

In addition there is a teenager range called 'Generation 915' with up to the minute ranges for those fashion conscious youngsters. Recently the Selby store started stocking styles in taller ranges and a limited maternity selection. You will also find a good range in sleepwear, underwear, socks and accessories. There are ranges in everyday evening and shoes, with selected styles in wider widths. The prices are surprisingly reasonable and the quality is quite good.

Bensons are a second hand shop that sells just about anything you can image, my Husband call it an Aladdin's for boys. So you won't find ladies fashions, shoes and hands bags, it more like fishing equipment, DVD's, video games and consoles, house hold appliances and spares, Hoover's, TV's DVD players, Bric-a-brac.like I said you name it, they probably sell it. And with being second hand the prices are always worth a look. The only problem you may have is loosing your husband for several hours while he browses:)

Rock One looks like quite a small shop from the outside but it rather suprising to see how far the shop goes back and just how much stock is kept in it. Rock One are a specialist shop selling walking and climbing gear in men's, ladies and children's sizes. While walking gear is not cheap, Rock One offer a good selection of branded goods at very competitive prices. There is an amazing selection of branded walking jackets, gilets and trousers, with walking boots, waterproofs, fleeces, hats and gloves. There is a wide selection of accessories including torches, flasks and heated pads, binoculars, and of course the good old conmpass. I buy my son's school and everyday jackets from Rock One as they are fashioable, waterproof and lined, and being a boy he loves the mini compass on the zip too!
