Viva Lucha Libre!
This place is so awesome! For about $10, I got ringside seats to the coolest show in Puebla! This arena hosts Lucha Libre matches, as well as some boxing matches occasionally. It is located about five blocks from the Zocalo, and is a great place to check out some wrestling!
The ticket window opens early, so you can be sure to get some great seats if you show up early. The staff is helpful when getting you to your seats, and they sell sandwiches, peanuts, candy, sodas and beers for a bit more than you'd pay at the local bars, but what do you expect to pay at a sporting event?
The Lucha Libre fight was incredible- they have two leagues. We went and saw the CMLL, which is the more technical, "serious" and authentic league. We only got to see one midget wrestle, dressed as a bird. The ref kinda stands around shrugging through most of the mayhem that occurs.
While watching the fight, one of the wrestlers wearing jerry curls was beating up on a madman wrestler. The fisticuffs ended up spilling outside of the ring, where they ended up fighting in front of us. The good guy pulled a small child forcibly from his seat next to us, and slammed his opponents face into the chair several times before smashing an umbrella and one of the vendors' trays of snacks on the bad guy's head.
The arena is clean, and the seats move, which can be a blessing and a curse- they move when a luchador is thrown into them, or they can topple over backwards if everyone leans back.
The restrooms are in the rear, consisting of a troff to pee in. Everything was freshly painted, and the place was clean.
Outside of the arena, a bunch of ancillary shops set up, selling wrestling paraphernalia and masks, which is awesome! read more
