Friendly personnel and everyone spoke English well enough. The room I had was on the top floor with a nice balcony with a view of the church and the Munot fortress. Other than the balcony the room was fairly standard with a nice big bed, mini-bar, free wifi (did not work all the time) and LCD-TV. What I did miss was coffee/tea making facilities as well as an iron and ironing board (there is an ironing room in the hotel but quality of it was awful -over 10 minutes to get any type of heat and not great even after that long wait). Bathroom was ok but the water in the shower varied greatly in heat and pressure. There is also no fitness centre/gym which is a major drawback. The breakfast was huge disappointment. No hot food (except for barely boiled eggs), awful selection of other things and coffee almost undrinkable. Still looking at the options in Schaffhausen it is still not that bad.

But this time they got it right on the second try. third visit. changed the order figured forget steak from them. Seen crispy pork belly and ribs. Sounds nice right? wrong. There was ribs with no bones??. Just a piece of beef. Pork belly looked like a piece of jelly. sent it back again. and came back missing the beef just the pork belly still looking like a piece of jelly:( no refund never asked if was ok. to bad it could be a good place if they weren't afriad to actually cook the food. sorry but there will not be a fourth visit

WOW! I have to say…read morethat the hotel's website does not do it justice. This spot is absolutely wonderful with excellent service and also a divine bar and restaurant. I visited here recently for two nights and lucked out in the amazing huge room on the second floor (I'm not sure of it's name, but it has a breakfast nook and a balcony along with a massive room and bathroom!). The architecture was so unique and my only complaint was that I would have liked a bit more light as things can get a bit dark in the winter in Switzerland and I love light. The bathroom was enormous and about 3x the size of my bathroom at home. it had a little sitting area which was wonderful and great light for makeup application. Everything was spotlessly clean. The bedroom was really comfortable with multiple seating areas including a couch and coffee table (fresh fruit - nice touch!) and a really comfortable and large bed. Two flat screens didn't hurt, either. As a group, we had dinner in the restaurant one night and it was superb! I had veal and it was literally melt in your mouth delicious and super flavorful and lovely. I never order veal, but if it all tasted like this, I could eat it every day. Dessert was a sorbet and chocolate mousse with Grand Marnier. OH! It was heavenly. So wonderful. This was literally one of the best meals I've ever eaten...and...considering I have 700-ish reviews on yelp, that's a lot of meals! The owner is super nice and gracious and helpful. I had a simply lovely time. Breakfast is in a beautiful room and consists of a great bread basket, meat and cheese and fruit (and if you want eggs, just ask!). All is wonderful (don't forget to order orange juice either...fresh!). Definitely worth a stop - it's a lovely hotel in a lovely little town and not very far from Zurich if you want somewhere slightly off the beaten path.

This hotel is all about the little details. The bath products are premium and smell delicious. The breakfast buffet was the best I have ever seen. They had all kinds of sausages and jams and even had gluten free bread options for me. The best was the rubber duckie in our bathroom. The staff was so kind and welcoming and always remembered us and asked how our various adventures went for the day. My husband begged me to make sure all the rest of our hotels were Sorrell Hotels but sadly there weren't any close to our other destinations. We will definitely be seeking them out on our next trip to Switzerland.

The hotel is located in a very central location in Schaffhausen. It is in the 'city' (perhaps more…read morevillage) center and very near the train station. We did however arrive in Zürich and since it was fairly late we had asked the hotel to arrange for transfer to the hotel. Was worth it since the train would have required us to change (not always the case, depends on arrival time and now we were 3 people and the taxi arranged by the hotel cost us CHF 120, still it is substantially more expensive than to travel from the airport by train (CHF 18 per person). Arriving at the hotel we saw that it was located in a very nice old building. The entrance had a fire place and a nice area with some sofas, tables etc. The fire place gave the hotel the slight 'smell' of burnt wood, some of my colleagues felt that it gave the place a slight charm - I could however have done without it. Many rooms are very small, the one I was put in was about the size of my walk-in closet at home. Still they managed to cram all the necessary things into the room (small bed, desk, TV and even a safe). The small size of the room does however mean that something I would like to have in a room was not available. I would have liked an iron (was available downstairs), coffee maker (available downstairs as well) and mini-bar. The safe was also very small. I have a small laptop (around 1kg weight) and it could still not fit in the safe. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. I am pretty sound sleeper so was not disturbed by any noise. A few of my colleagues complained about the fact that the Church bells were very disturbing. The rooms are also rather warm and there was no air condition (would probably be even worse in summer). The breakfast was at best ok but I would have liked some more choices, especially regarding hot food the selection was poor (as well as the quality). The hotel would probably benefit from having a real restaurant in the place but as it is now they do not have the ability to make any real food. There is also the matter of Internet access, it is charged for in the rooms but it is free at the computer in the lobby where it is also possible to print without charge. The hotel does not have a gym but they do offer free access to the local gym (called Eurofit). The gym was very nice but it is a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel.
