The music was a good volume and was catchy, lots of people were dancing. It was busy but not overly crowded around 2am last night. They closed up pretty much right at 3am but were a little lenient about letting us finish our drinks. The bartenders were nice enough. No cover when I went although there was security at the door. They do allow smoking inside so if you're sensitive to the smell it's something to be aware of, although it's fairly spacious and they had the outside door open so it didn't get aggressively pungent. Will return!

I started with a tasting of 5 mezcals. Verde by far is my favorite. I also asked the waiter to surprise me with a cocktail with Mezcal Verde. It came with a popsicle. Mission accomplished! On my most recent visit we all had the Mezcal Margarita which may have spoiled me for all other margaritas in the future. There is something about the smokiness that meshes with the sweet tart of the margarita mix that just sings. Check out the rooftop bar to pass the time in style with good friends.

We walked in about an hour before close, and the bar was as lively as ever. While downstairs had more of a lounge vibe, the rooftop bar was buzzing with locals and loud music. Overall a bit grubby, but nothing unexpected of a typical dive bar. Staff are a bit brusque but well-intentioned. PULQUE: I could only dream that this was more popular in the US. Sweet, almost fruity, and smooth. Almost like a light, pulpy, alcoholic orange juice. New to pulque, but this was a delicious and great start. Impressively vast selection of craft beers, wines, and liquor. You're bound to find something for everyone.

The people here, as they have been everywhere, are very welcoming and take tremendous pride in whatever it is they do. While enjoying the national holiday today, the birthday of Benito Juarez (whom originated from Oaxaca) this was a perfect respite from the heat and to begin a night of debauchery. Right outside was a wonderful elderly lady at an Alote stall- corn with cortija cheese from the region. It's a very old and very rare tradition that is slowly disappearing . The atmosphere here is stunning and pays homage to the culture and traditions of this region of Mexico. Follow me as I next travel to Puerto Escondido. Until then, Ciao Bella
