I cannot really comment on the history of this place. A friend of ours who tried to see if we could go inside for a visit was told that, it was not open to the public, due to the fact that, it is a working monastery.
The architecture is stunning and it looks amazing from the outside. It's worth a detour just to walk around this beautiful building. Beautiful domes and gardens and fairly well covered by foliage.
I do understand that the monks here feed the needy and you can engage in conversation with the monks at this time.
