I got my Fender Princeton Reverb 65 Reissue repaired by Trevor at Arcane Amplification. I am very pleased with what I got! The amp, about 15 years old, started sounding a little funky. So I decided get it serviced. It came back sounding so much better - clear chimie highs and beefy lows. Trevor replace many old shabby parts with higher quality parts. It may possibly sound better than a new one. The only negative is that it took 3 months for the repair. But that is only because he is in such high demands and it speaks for his quality work. If you need you amp fixed tomorrow, you may have to go elsewhere. read more

TLDR This place barely answers the phone. They are totally unresponsive. They don't keep their word, and they don't call back. I can't comprehend how there aren't more bad reviews, considering a friend of mine who works at a local guitar shop told me I should have avoided this place like the plague, and that I'm not alone in my experience. I've really tried not to get to this point that I have to trash this business, but its been three months since I dropped off my amp, and I still haven't gotten a straight answer on whether it can even be fixed. I dropped off a Fender Rumble 200 with a bad pre-amp circuit board with them in December on a Sunday, after he made me wait outside for 10 minutes in the cold. Inside the shop was a haphazard mess, resembling what you might imagine seeing on an episode of hoarders, but for guitar amps. My interaction with the repair guy was pretty awkward. I'm awkward too so its whatever. He told me he had a spare circuit board from a Fender Rumble 500 in stock that would fit my amp, and that it would take him just a few hours labor to run a trace and swap out the board. For some reason, I interpreted that as I would pick up the amp later that day. When I hadn't heard from them near closing time, I called. Later I would learn it was shocking he answered on the first try. He told me he hadn't even looked at the amp yet, but he would get to it next week. Next week rolled past and no call. I waited patiently for another week, and then called them several times, and most of the time he never answered. I left voice mails but they were never returned. When I did get him on the phone, he mumbled something about being totally swamped, but he would look at the amp and call me back tomorrow. He never did. Fast forward two months, I call him, he answers, and to my surprise he has some news. The trace on the amp showed one of the other boards needed to be replaced too, but the repair would probably be more expensive that I was willing to spend. Otherwise, he probably had one of those boards in stock too, but he'll need to do further testing, if I was really committed to fix it. I informed him I only paid $100 for the amp, and that I am willing to put several hundred more into the repair, considering a new Fender Rumble 200 costs around $600. He told me he would look further into it and get back to me. Its now March, and I haven't heard anything. Periodically when I happen to remember I even own the amp, I call and they don't answer. So, I give up. I only wanted this extra bass amp for my band mate who has been coming over to my tiny office to jam for the past three months, while our drummer was on an overseas trip. Our drummer returned, and we're back in the studio with our big boy amps. I have no need for a practice amp anymore. Arcane Amplifiers, if you're reading this, go ahead and keep my amp. Its my understanding that its incredibly difficult to find replacement parts for a Fender Rumble, and most repair places won't even consider fixing them. Maybe the parts of my amp might help some other poor soul who gets duped into buying a broken one like I did. I'll just consider it a lesson learned, and in return for your services, I'm leaving you this review. Have a nice day. read more

As you can read by some of the more recent reviews - the shop owner is experiencing some kind of mental breakdown and has begun taking people's equipment and refusing to refund or return the equipment. He currently has and refuses to return or finish work on something of mine he's had since september 2025 (writing in july 2026). He does not answer calls or texts, and is becoming increasingly hostile to customers. For the sake of personal safety, and the sake of your cherished equipment, do not do business with this person. read more

As the other review mentioned, something weird has gone on here where the guy has totally dropped off the map, and unfortunately a really cherished amp of mine is trapped there. It's a very weird situation and hopefully I'm able to get my amp ASAP, but one thing is for sure. DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT go here. read more

Brought my boutique amp in to get the input jacks replaced and after over a month of waiting the amp came back way worse than it was when it came in. I get it, its a boutique amp that he's never seen before. I asked for my money back after testing it at home (as you can see in the video). Trevor asked me to bring it in to go over it once more. I explained to him that I've decided to ship the amp to the person that built it in order to get refurbished and tuned up. He insisted that if I wanted my money back I had to bring it in to so he could test it. I am now in his shop while he is holding my amp hostage on his table and refusing to put it back together and give me my money back.... I explained again that this is a waste of time. I wasn't going to hold it against him if he just put it back together and gave me a refund. He again insisted to test more things so I got frustrated and said "no. Please put my amp back together or I write this review." He ended up kicking me out of the store and not giving me my money back. I understand he wanted to show me his concerns and test things. He had already changed the characteristics of the amp and it started doing concerning things after paying over $200 to replace the input jacks. He dismissed his customers concerns and he dismissed the fact that any work he was trying to convince me would fix the issues was pointless because I was still going to send the amp back to the builder regardless of what he did to it. Trevor is the best amp tech in Portland, hands down. Super nice guy and extremely knowledgeable about all amps, solid state or tube. He's always very communicative and always stands behind his work. Trevor revived my 5150 block letter. New caps, pots, and yes of course tubes - it sounds and feels amazing and I know that I've got my amp which will last me years. Even did a really cool upgrade to my global Presence knob, upgrading it to a linear response offering me a better range of control without sacrificing any original sounds. Super cool guy just doing his thing, and he knows exactly what he's doing. Spent extra time chasing down harder to find parts to do the thing right. Finding a great not just good repair and builder of amplifiers is not easy. You can spend a lot of money hoping for the best. No worries with Trevor and his team! I've had my amps repaired by others here in Portland and also other cities where I have resided in the past and this is the best advice and work I've experienced... ever! My upgraded Hot Rod Deluxe has never sounded better (I purchased it new back in 2007). Quiet for practice and plenty of clear punch for the studio or stage. What a nice and smart guy. Trevor said he could do exactly what it needed, and what I wanted. He delivered and then some! The best in Portland. Have no fear. Arcane is the place to get repair, upgrades, and custom amps built. I brought my early eighties Jim Kelley Lineamp (prototype) in for a power transformer replacement. I was able to purchase a NOS from Mr. Kelley himself. The Lineamp needed a good going through to check the caps, resistors, tubes and anything else that might need some attention. Trevor did an incredible job! He actually knew quite a lot about Jim Kelley amps and was happy to work on one. Other amp techs knew little to nothing about the Jim Kelley amps and some had no idea of what they were looking at. (Mr. Kelley told me that his Lineamps are very rare and all were prototypes.) Trevor thoroughly went through the Kelley Lineamp, fixed or replaced anything that need work. He installed new quad of 6V6 power tubes and tuned everything up! Wow! What a difference! Trevor did an incredible job on a very rare and special amp... I could not be happier! I got the amp home and played it for over four hours straight! Damn! Thanks again Trevor! read more

Trevor is a genius . The project was to mod a 1967 fender pro reverb. Turned out to be a 1968 without a tube rectifier. He kicked down the voltage replacing the 6L6 tubes with 6V6 taking it from 50 to 30 watts. He added a tube rectifier and added a mercury magnetics output transformer. Also added was two vintage style Jensen twelves. This thing is a monster . I played out last week paired it with my 1966 strat, and jaws dropped. The thing sounds chimey,the harmonic over tones are amazing and has the bell like tones that one searches a lifetime for. Trevor worked on my 1966 Fender, Vibrolux Reverb. He performed a detailed test and provided a quote to replace tubes, caps and resistors that were bad and clean all pods. I plugged in my guitar the day I brought it home and the sound was amazing. Every time I power this amp up, I can't help but smile. Now it sounds as good as it looks.
