There are two things you need to know about "Brechos" in Sao Paulo before you spend time looking for treasures from a different time period. 1.) Maybe half of what you see is for sale. Brechos collect vintage clothes and accessories and rent them out. I went into Arca da Vila and saw a nice yellow belt. When I asked the cost of it she said it was only for rent. 15r a day. How these places stay in business is beyond me. 2.) There's always a jeito. If you really, really love something that's not for sale there's a possibility you can buy it. For a price. This yellow belt I mentioned earlier for example was offered to me for 70r. It's an old, plastic belt. Come on girlfriend, work with me. read more

I have a hard time with Brechos (thirft stores) here in Sao Paulo. It seems that the ones I've…read morefound have cool vintage things, but a lot of this stuff won't sell, only rent it to you. What? That sounds crazy. I know, right? Glad I'm not the only one to think so. But since this particular shop is like the other shops I've gone in, I'll give it a 3 star. But if I was just rating it as a store, I'd give it a 1. Why would I want to buy some bracelet that's falling apart for 50r? No thanks. I'll just pick up some costume jewelry at 21 de Marco for 2r.
