A beautiful place where, in the summer, lots of people gather to lounge and swim. Unfortunately, there wasn't much to see under water compared to other places we've been diving in the past (Cozumel, Belize, Florida, Acapulco). We did see a few schools of barracuda, and much larger schools of other small fish, some very large oysters and starfish, an occasional grouper, and a few others. The seafloor just offshore consisted mostly of kelp beds without a great deal of coral, sea fans, sponges, etc. The main things we had hope to see were nudibranches and sunfish, and we didn't see either of those. The largest fish we saw was a small sized grouper. All of our diving was right by Enfola, so I really don't know if there are other parts of Elba that are better for underwater sightseeing. As Americans diving in Italy lots of things were also different than we were used to. Pressure on the gauges reads in bars instead of psi. The thermocline in that part of the Mediterranean is fairly shallow at about 10 meters, with the water up top being about 25 C and the water below the layer being 10-15 C. That meant that we had to wear full wet suits, which we also were not used to doing. Another difference for us is that in the Caribbean, diving outfits usually handle all equipment assembly, dis-assembly, and cleaning, but here we were required to do all of that ourselves. I am not complaining about any of these things, they were just different from what we expected. Most of our interaction was with Anna and Claudia and they were both pleasant and helpful. We got the impression that Alessandro and Andrea were both a bit frustrated by our poor Italian and lack of proficiency with equipment assembly, which I have to admit is fully understandable. All of them were quite competent and professional, and I would not hesitate to dive with any of them again.

We got two bikes, helmets, locks and a basket for 60 E. The bikes worked well and we rode them all over Firenze. I tipped my bike over the next day and my basket came off. She promptly fixed my basket with a smile. Really easy and pleasant experience!

Their hours were better - they were open later and permitted us to bring our bikes back late in the evening. The owner greeted us upon return and insisted on having a drink with us. They were so friendly and accommodating. After visiting 2 other bike shops to get a feel for them, we knew we had made the right choice going with Giramondo.
