When I was going here as a student I was bullied almost every day. But I enjoyed hanging out with friends.

The place has the highest median SAT scores in the state, but not the highest average, because they keep about 25% of the slots for students with "different talents". When I applied in 1996, the school was dark, dank and was not a warm place where you would want your kids to go. But since then they've renovated the physical building, maintained a commitment to diversity, athletics, and the arts, and really created a great balance in the student body. According to my sister, the teaching is first rate and graduates go on to great universities. When it comes to private high schools in the city, you really can't go wrong with many of the schools (University, Urban, Lick, etc.). The only school I would consider a strong alternative is Lowell, widely considered one of the finest public schools in America. But that being said, LWHS is a great place to spend four years.

Bad is the simplest way to describe our time there, but if we were to go into detail it'll be an extremely long review. To begin, a lot of the teachers act like teenagers. They're grown adults who continue to be in students drama and you can tell who is their favorites. When we looked for help in classes, teachers refused to help. A lot of them only gave good grades to the students they liked, the others, who spoke out against this behavior got terrible grades. There was also a lot of fights and teacher and student conflicts. Here are the teachers we had conflict with: Keziah David Ryan Alias George Lee All three were like a clique, they came at students and would try to blame them for their mistakes. Ms. David would go through students phones, group chats, and ask personal questions and say that it was because she cared for us. Mr. Alias always followed behind her and would justify her actions. And Mr. Lee would yell at students, curse at them, and get angry with them for his grading mistakes. I would also like to mention that my friend and I both had between 3.0-3.8 gpa before going to Balboa. My friend who was there for the whole school was below a 2.5 gpa after being at Balboa. I was there for one semester and had a 2.57 gpa, I previously had a 3.3-3.8 gpa. That shows how much the teachers didn't help us. We are glad to be out of that school and we hope they fix their mistakes.

My mom knew all my teachers (Mrs. Moshonov, Mrs. Trias, Mrs. Parker, Miss Wright, Ms. Adams- I had really good teachers) and the principal was Carl M. Pileri. Every birthday, my mom always arranged a birthday for me and my entire class- lumpia, pancit, and a cake from Chinatown- usually, a white cake with banana filling. I didn't realize it at the time, but there was a heavy asian population, especially Filipino. I posted all the class pictures on my FB account and some of those classmates are now my friends on FB. There was a "Nations Day" where we all dressed in ethnic costumes, and performed the song and dance affililated with each country. To this day, I know a jewish song (my first teacher was Jewish). The physical activities we did everyday were: kickball, four square, chinese jump rope, and tether ball. The one day I looked forward to, year after year, was, Field Day. I always threw the football (one of my favorites, to this day) and sometimes I participated in the three-legged race. Extracurricular activities included the "Talent Show;" in which I participated, in fifth grade. I'll always remember the octupus I painted on the mural, which was later turned into a vampire bat (I visited through the years). Around fourth grade, my class curriculum included "computer lab." Mrs. Chan was the teacher. Friday was Popcorn Sale Day- pink, plain, and caramel. I didn't really visit the teachers after I graduated to junior high, or high school. But I did visit the school, on the weekends when we gave the family dog a walk around the neighborhood. And through the years, I went back to see it, the grounds anyway (the field and playground are open), the school fences were up. It seemed so small. But I had some good times here, had many friends, and learned a lot in school. Anyway, this was my experience in a nutshell. There were other schools two blocks away, but that was considered San Francisco.

Here's my honest review of Waldorf High School as an ex-student who was there for their first 2…read moreyears of high school. Starting off with IEPs and students with neurodiversity: when I, along with other neurodivergent students, would bring up how teachers seemed to ignore our accommodations, we were completely ignored by administration. Additionally, I have ADHD, which leads to needing to take occasional breaks from class due to overstimulation--made worse by the often intensive curriculum. When I would take a break and just walk around to clear my mind and noticed a facilities or safety/health issue, I brought it straight to teachers, administration, or the front desk. That's not my business, but I thought reporting it would be seen as taking initiative. Then I would go back to class when I refocused myself. These breaks were at a maximum of 15 minutes. Administration then proceeded to contact my legal guardians, claiming that I was "disruptive," when there were kids in class talking all the time and talking about very messed up and frankly inappropriate topics (which--you guessed it--was also ignored by administration). I will not be discussing those topics as I do not want to damage the reputation of this school that is great for some. I only want to inform and show you some flaws of the school. Anyway, back to the review. Staff had issues with each other and would openly criticize students' dress choices and neurodivergent people in front of other students. I still remember being criticized constantly by students, and teachers doing close to nothing--no follow-ups with parents for disruptive behavior. Maybe that was so "student morale" wouldn't be damaged. I was in art class and tried to make a cow out of clay. The copper teacher then proceeded to take the "cow," smash it back on the clay tray, and explain to me how it didn't look like a cow. He didn't even leave a picture up for visual learners--he just kept it up for a few minutes and told us to "remember how a cow looks." After I left this school my transcript was completely ruined and is extremely confusing for admissions counselors, every class is a .3 etc so it just makes everything confusing when adding credits up. My counselor at my current highschool took about 2 hours trying to "decode" my transcript Also, if you do decide to send your child here, make sure you're not afraid to go to the state if teachers ignore IEPs or accommodations. You will need the help. Also, Waldorf--retaliation based on this complaint will result in escalation to the state.

If we were misbehaving during class we. Like have to switch it from green to yellow or sometimes even green to red. For some reason that scared me growing up, especially the popsicle sticks. I remember for "tech class" it was up like 3-4 cases of stairs and there were broken windows, a creepy baby doll staring at you, and to top that all of, we didn't even have a tech teacher. Our teacher would just supervise us and make sure we were on the right website, they never corrected anything that we did wrong. It took me a good 3 years to learn how to type properly as they never taught us. When I transferred to a new school in 4th grade, I was a little bit behind, causing me to not understand the stuff they were learning in 4th grade. I was put in a resource group to help to help me comprehend stuff the other students were learning but I couldn't grasp on since I was behind. To this day, I suck at grammar and English. The rest of my grades are A's & B's. I remember at epiphany, in the 2nd grade we were learning about how to tell time on a clock, and we never looked back on that in 3rd grade. The other day, I was helping my younger brother(1st grade who attends the same school as me) with his homework and it was about how to tell time on clocks. I was genuinely surprised as I thought you learn about clocks when ur in 2nd -3rd grade as that was the environment I grew up in. After I had left, a good amount of people left. 3 other people of epiphany went to the current school we attend now.( which I am not naming due to privacy) Now I'm graduation 8th grade, class of 2024 and I'm still confused on stuff i was behind on due to not having enough knowledge from epiphany. Overall, it wasn't the worst experience but it certainly wasn't the best.
